Moombahton????

CMOS 10:26 PM - 2 November, 2010
New style of music ive been hearing about. Anyone know about it, got any artists to look up?

Its kinda like reggaton, meets electro, meets techno, all at 106bpm.
Tunecrew 1:26 AM - 3 November, 2010
to me its like really annoying reggaeton remixes of other tracks, probably played at hipster baile funk nights in the east village

then again i think all reggaeton is annoying
thewevel 2:52 AM - 3 November, 2010
audio1 does a lot of moombahton edits. emynd has done a few. maybe audio1 will pop in here and drop some knowledge
dj_soo 5:47 AM - 3 November, 2010
it's alright - there's some really good tracks but there's a lot of annoying ones too...

guess it's just the same as everything else. Personally I prefer cumbia...

kryptonitednb 7:14 AM - 3 November, 2010
As thewevel says, Audio1 has been banging out some edits. Also check out Dave Nada from Nadastrom, he has been into it a lot.
dj_soo 7:41 AM - 3 November, 2010
Audio1 has some great edits - i also like what Sabo is doing with the sound (not to be confused with Sabbo who is also pretty good)
Audio1 4:31 PM - 3 November, 2010
Here is a great compilation that just dropped this past weekend on the Mad Decent blog. www.maddecent.com / generationbass.com

It's a trip to be mentioned on a project on Mad Decent. Yes, Moombahton is here to stay. It's the 2010 micro-genre that could.

Artists to look out for:

- Dave Nada (the creator of Moombahton)
- Sabo (2nd in command for the Moombahton genre)
- Munchi (Holland's king of Moombahton)
- David Heartbreak (sick producer)
- DJ A-Mac (one of the first DJ's to popularize the genre)
- Doc Adam (PDX king of Moombah)
- Wyld Stallyns
- Max Le Daron
- Cam Jus
- Mu-Gen
- Neoteric
- Pickster
- Rampage & Nader (Ghetto Division, Chicago)
- Morningstar
- Emynd
- Mister Gray (Cheap Thrills)
- Audio1 (of course, all my moombahton edits are free on Soundcloud)

My piece of advise is to scour blogs such as Generation Bass. They do a weekly roundup of the best moombahton edits and remixes. generationbass.com

For me, I learned alot about Moombahton off of artists on Soundcloud. Go on there and search for terms such as Moombahton, Moombah and discover what you find. It's singlehandedly the best place to find/discover new and now classic Moombahton style music.

I hope the links help. If anyone need further information on the genre, Send me a Private message. I honestly got into this genre for a few reasons.

1 - Its electro/house, chopped and screwed to 108-114bpm's.
2 - Its a great way to introduce electro/house to latin & top 40 crowds.
3 - Dropped at the right moment, The energy of this music is over the top.
Audio1 4:36 PM - 3 November, 2010

Love moombahton.... love the fact that the genre is named from a song. so ghetto.
selkie 3:57 AM - 3 May, 2011

echa1945mf 5:26 AM - 3 May, 2011

from indonesia : Mahesa Utara (Vicious Records/Mad Decent/1945MF)

personally dont like moombahton along with the bleepy dutch house stuff but im seeing this genre will do well
Mr. Goodkat 10:44 AM - 3 May, 2011
moombahton is based on bleepy dutch house stuff.
dj_soo 8:18 PM - 11 July, 2011
ok. Moombahton is *finally* growing on me.

Caught the Do-Over in Portland last month and they had Doc Adam and Sabo throwing down a bunch of moombahton and damned if I didn't dance my ass off. Started introducing a bit into sets over the last month and it's still a mixed bag. I've seen it go off and I've seen it confuse the kids - I guess I need to really have a good transition into the style since I'm usually coming off midtempo funk and bassline breaks.

So yea anyway - I have officially jumped on the moombahton bandwagon 2 years late...

good to hear, it helps that sabo is just a great dj regardless of genre, but it def. helps when you hear it through the correct lens in order to see whats really good. i think thats a big problem with dubstep, early on you had educated cats that had seen the evolution through 2 step/garage and had good musical dj backgrounds, that have now been replaced with washed up dnb djs and young guys that dont know shit about djing.

I think that spans all genres nowadays - not just dubstep :P

to be honest, I was such a huge fan os sabo back in his Turntables on the Hudson days, I was actually really disappointed when he shifted almost entirely to Moombahton, but listening to his tracks now - man, some really good production in there...
Audio1 1:57 AM - 12 July, 2011
Welcome to 2011.
dj_soo 2:07 AM - 12 July, 2011
yeayeayea.

I'm definitely much more of a fan of original moombahton production than the plethora of edits that seem to overwhelm any hot new genre... probably why I like Sabo's stuff so much...

Doc Adam was highly entertaining tho even if his set bordered on the under-cheeze...
Audio1 4:28 PM - 12 July, 2011
Doc Adam is awesome DJ altogether. Master of many genres, He started off as just an edits only moombahton dude and transformed himself into a moombahton master. A lot of his new material is legit OG material and I love that he keeps the classic hip hop element to most of them. SABO is a beast, Always has, Always will be. He is more of a Cumbia type a guy to me.
dj_soo 7:44 PM - 12 July, 2011
I'm playing a festival with Dave nada in a couple weeks... Looking fwd to that too..
Mr. Goodkat 11:03 PM - 12 July, 2011
dope, we got em comin thru in early aug.
dj_soo 6:48 AM - 25 July, 2011
here's my first attempt at a moombahton tune:

soundcloud.com

prefer the spacey, techno-y stuff to the dutch-house, car-alarm music personally...
DJ Dub Cowboy 7:24 AM - 25 July, 2011
dude! sick!

moombahdub = moombahdrool
spirez 8:27 AM - 25 July, 2011
DJ Sleeper did a pretty good mini mix

www.youtube.com

First track is sick!
Naf 9:42 PM - 25 July, 2011
I'm a fan, but more of the latin sounding moombahton as opposed to slowed down dirty dutch. I made a mix of some tracks I really like if anyone is interested.

2011 has been resuscitated
Mr. Goodkat 8:15 PM - 2 June, 2017
it kinda marginally came back in the last year.

kinda crazy dave nada screwed down some dutch house records and now its a u.s.pop staple as far as a beat structure goes
dj_soo 9:20 AM - 3 June, 2017
Tropical house has basically been the big sound of last year and this year and it's essentially a moombahton beat at 100bpm.

I don't know why I'm bothering replying to anything. We're going to be drowning in spam until Monday when the serato team gets back to work...
