can u make ur own ground wire? just use a spare thin wire and connect it to ur turntables and mixer?? strip the wire and tighten it up
Revolutionary 3:20 PM - 30 March, 2005
Stop making new threads for every new question you have. This is not some kind of chatroom.
Revolutionary 3:22 PM - 30 March, 2005
No, don't try to make something on your own if you aren't qualified to do so. Might give you some problems down the road.
agesmax 3:43 PM - 30 March, 2005
fuck up. u never asked the question when a asked it in the other thread ya gimp. how qualified do u really need to b to strip a wire? u sayin theres more to an earth cable than plain wire??
Revolutionary 4:06 PM - 30 March, 2005
Well, someone gotta an attitude...What question did I ask?

The job itself is pretty easy. Anyone could do that. Even an idiot...I'm talking of the problems you can get with insurance and stuff if something happens to your turntables and mixer. Why don't you go out and buy yourself them cables? Doubt they aren't affordable.

That's probably not what you need anyway.

Remember the warning you got, man.
agesmax 5:13 PM - 30 March, 2005

What does that mean in english?
Revolutionary 5:24 PM - 30 March, 2005
Do you expect to get help from people when you say stuff like that?

Don't know why I'm doing this, but here you go. Your turntables most likely got internal grounding. Nothing to worry about then.
Your mixer does not need grounding. The things you are experiencing is probably just statical electricity.
According to the Pro Audio Reference by Rane, more and more statical electricity will build up if you keep saying bad words. Thus more often will you get shocks.

Just kidding about the PAR thing...

PHONO GROUND LIFT is what the switch on the back of the table is called. whats the point in it then? u can turn the grounding on or off. i lost the manuals. do u not need to ground the mixer to sumthing if u get shocks off it? tht is the whole point in grounding is it not??
agesmax 5:49 PM - 30 March, 2005
Ground lift Operation
Due to the variety of power sources available to the DJ, Stanton has included a
ground lift switch to be used on the ST- 150/STR8-150 turntables. This will allow
the DJ to have the capability of changing the grounding scheme of the phono
cartridge to avoid ground hum that may occur when using the turntable. The ST-
150/STR8-150 Turntable has been designed to operate with third pin safety ground,
and should always be used when available. NEVER REMOVE THIRD PIN
GROUND FROM THE POWER CORD PROVIDED, IF NECESSARY,
USE THE APPROPRIATE ADAPTER FOR PLUGGING INTO OUTLETS
WHICH DO NOT PROVIDE THIRD PIN GROUND TERMINALS.
For best operation of the ground lift, the following rules should be applied
Wh e n t h i r d pin safety ground is used, set the ground lift switch to the lift
position. This position will isolate the cartridge ground from connection to earth
ground.
When third pin safety ground is unavailable, set the ground lift switch to the
connected position. This will place the cartridge ground in connection with the
chassis ground, but since third pin grounding is not used, the cartridge ground will
not be in connection with earth.
--------
u any idea what this means then? thought they cant b grounded?
thought u should ground to make SSL better
Dj KaGeN 6:09 PM - 30 March, 2005
deja vu........

so NO don't add some form of ground, unless you'd like to bypass the engineering incorporated in the ground lift switch.

Agesmax... Please be nice to others on this board or you will get banned.

Regarding your turntables: The ST 150 is grounded through the AC cord, so don't lift the ground or worry about connecting a ground wire to your mixer.

Make sure you have your turntables set for phono mode (the switch is on the rear of your turntable)

The ST 150 manual can be found here www.stantondj.com

PS You really don't need to start a new thread for each of your questions :)

Yes I'm in Hawaii, and I work at Creative Sound and Lighting. Yes there are a few radio mixers using SSL my good friend DJ Paul Brandon, DJ Jimmy Taco, DJ Goodvybe, and Mike D.
