I have technics 1200 and a pioneer djm-400 mixer. My problems are that 1st I cant seem to calibrate my right turntable. My left is getting 100% signal no problem but my right table just shows a small oval and 0%. My other problem is that I cant even figure out how to play a track on my left table thats actually working. All I hear is the that high pitched tone... Some one please help me out!? I am new and incredibly confused.
Thanks

Hi JVAZ818,
Are you able to let me know how you have everything connected? Do you have your SL 1 outputs connected to line level inputs on your mixer? Also are your transform switches set to line? Ignore the THRU outputs for now.

If you're hearing the high pitched tone (that's the control signal on the vinyl), then you are listening to the THRU outputs on the SL1 box. Your music goes out the LINE outputs on the SL1, so check your mixer/cabling setting.

To Samuel S: Yes I have my SL 1 outputs connected to line level inputs and the transform switches are set to line.
To Konix: So you're saying that I need to switch to the line output?

The LINE output on your SL1 box should go to the LINE input on your mixer.

Do you want a pic of just the mixer and SL1 or of my entire set up?

if you could take a clear picture of your turntables connecting to your SL1 and SL1 to mixer that would be great

Please remove all the cables from your SL1 box and mixer and do the following:
Connect 1 RCA cable (red and white) from LEFT DECK LINE on the SL1 to the CD connection for CHANNEL 1 on your mixer.
Then connect a 2nd RCA cable from RIGHT DECK LINE on the SL1 to the CD connection for CHANNEL 2 on your mixer.
Switch the switches on top to CD. Turn your gains to 12 oclock. Try to play a song from Serato. What do you hear?

So I did exactly what you said and I STILL get that damn control signal. Now what?

I don't understand how you're getting the control signal. It just doesn't seem right :S
make sure your turntables are plugged into the SL box and the LINE from SL box to the mixer is right. Double check to make sure it's not on THRU

Disconnect every audio cable you have connected to your SL box and your Mixer, then follow these steps:
1. Plug your LEFT turntable into LEFT INPUT on your Serato Box (the SL1).
2. Plug your RIGHT turntable into RIGHT INPUT on your serato box (the SL1).
3. Plug an cable from your OUTPUT LEFT DECK LINE to CHANNEL 1 CD on your mixer.
4. Plug an cable from your OUTPUT RIGHT DECK LINE to CHANNEL 2 CD on your mixer.
See if audio plays. Only 4 audio cables should be plugged in at the moment. (except for your speaker out on the mixer)

2. Plug your RIGHT turntable into RIGHT INPUT on your serato box (the SL1).

You probably had a turntable plugged into your mixer or you had a cable connected to THRU instead of LINE on the SL1 box.
THRU means you can play a normal record on the turntable and listen to it using that output. Since the timecode vinyl is only a highpitched signal, you were hearing that.
I'd advise you to take notes on your current working setup so that you dont get confused in the future :P

Hold on tho... my right table cant get a signal, is that because I have a bad needle or what could that be?
DJ Stoyvo

Switch the needle from your left turntable to your right one and check it out

yea i did that so my right table is the good one and my left doesnt play. Does it matter what kind of needles I get? are all needles universal? The ones I have are the M44-7's which I hear are the best for scratching.

1:06 AM - 20 August, 2010
M44-7's are pretty good. It sounds like your needle is messed up. Try switching the stylis, if that doesnt work then there's a problem with the headshell
JVAZ818
1:10 AM - 20 August, 2010
ok but can i get any stylus/headshell for technics if i have to? or are those technics parts only?
DJ Stoyvo
1:49 AM - 20 August, 2010
Headshells just screw onto technics. the m44-7s just screw on. The stylis is just the actual needle part, it comes right out. You can swap them. Headshells usually run for $150 up here in TORONTO, but just the actual needle is only 40 bucks tops
