While practicing today I`ve noticed that when I pressed the play button it would slowly start up as if the start up knob was turned to the far right. The thing tho is that I have the start and end time to 0. It has happened on 3 occasions and the way how I made it stop was disengaging the LPF effect. I tried to reproduce the problem but no luck. Could this be a mechanical issue? this has got me worried

I forgot to mention that in order for it work again I turned the start time knobs up & back down and it seems to reset it. Weird thing is that I`ve only had this problem today. I also disengaged the LPF effect but I don`t think that has to do anything with it

That has happened to me as well, but I haven't had it repeat itself since then.

Hey latinblood2k1,
Could you let me know which version of ITCH you are running? Also your computer specifications?

Samuel S I`ve noticed that I`ve been getting a light that glows in red and yellow saying LIMITER. Is this the equivalent of a USB drop out in windows? For some reason only the light glows and the audio doesn`t cut out.

I`m back on 1.5 and the limiter light doesn`t come on. Weird

Hi latinblood2k1.
The Limiter light is when your audio volume has gone so loud that you've engaged the software limiter. A limiter is used by sound technicians (live or in a studio) to reduce the volume of any audio that goes over a certain threshold, so there's no distortion or digital clipping. ITCH has a limiter, but only ITCH 1.7 has a visual light to show when you engage this.
When you limit audio, you often 'squash' the audio, or flatten the dynamics, so it's best not to push the volume too high. I'd suggest just keeping the volume at normal un-redlined levels, and you won't see this light illuminate. The NS7 is one of (if not THE) loudest DJ device on the market, so there's no need to push it very hard at all.

So do you suggest for me to reduce the head room by -3 since the default is at 0 and it lights up? Btw I use the numark v7. Is it bad to leave the limiter light on? I`ve noticed that when I reduce it to -3 the volume reduces drastically but when I leave it on 0 it sounds just about right and there are no distortions

If the limiter is engaging with a V7, it won't be affecting the sound quality, as the limiter light engages even with near zero limiting... and there's no way to push the sound of the V7, so even if the limiter is on a lot, you shouldn't need to worry about the sound quality.
It is strange however, and this will be revised at some point I imagine.

Ahh ok so I assume that I should play normally and just stick with the 0dbs correct? Btw if it helps I am using 1.7 RC2
Matt-C

Yeah, keep it at 0dbs. Unless you're playing pure distorted white noise, then any limiting will be doing almost nothing to your music, so the dynamics will still be maintained :D
And there's nothing wrong with limiting white noise :-P

White noise is just pure noise, so it wouldn't make a difference to the quality of the noise if it was being limited or not...
This issue is currently being looked at to give the best results for users. At present most users who have discussed this want it as we have it, but I assume when this is released into the public when the ITCH 1.7 goes final then it will be discussed more.

Thanks for your prompt response

Not a problem.
You will be fine with this light flashing when using the V7.
If you were ever using another ITCH device, you may want to adjust your volumes of your channels, but for you now the limiter light is fine :D

Sorry for all the questions but if I were to wanna raise the DB a bit like to +2 or +4 can I still do that? That ofcourse watching the meter making sure it doesn`t get distorted

Raise the dB whereabouts? Do you mean on an NS7 or other ITCH device?
Or on your normal DJ mixer with your V7?

I meant to say raise the Dbs from the the headroom of the Itch program
Matt-C

You wouldn't need any further headroom than 0 - this is very loud already, and most DJ mixers couldn't take any more input level that this.
You'd then be able to adjust the gains on the channels of the DJ mixer to suit.
