So I figured out the Auto-Loop easter egg but..

So after all the crap in the loop/easter egg threads I figured out how to do the Auto-Loop Easter Egg. Buuuuuuuut. It won't let me go past 4 bars? What am I missing here?
Konix
4:29 PM - 25 January, 2007
Shouldn't even be able to do 4 bars, the max is 2 bars (8 beats). There's 1/2, 1, 2, 4 and 8 beats. Unless your tagged BPM value is halved or doubled (can't remember which ATM), then it will half/double the number of beats looped. The auto looping is limited right now, but I'm sure will be improved upon later to allow for 4 bars (16 beats) and 8 bars (32 beats).

Nope, not in the manual.
Don't hate me, blame the sneaky Serato programmers for putting it in there (j/k guys ;)). There's more than enough hints in the other thread to figure it out. And no, it's not any of this up up down down left right Contra code stuff.

the easter egg is just an easter egg because at the moment it's not really a fully fledged feature... more of a hidden toy to show what is possible. Auto looping will definitely be included as a proper feature in 1.8 though...

I really think it's retarded that people are holding this over everybody's heads. Some people won't ever figure it out and all you're doing is frustrating them. I didn't think that was what this community was about. If you want to figure it out yourself, don't read the rest of this post. For those that do, scroll down.
To unlock the thing, just keep hitting the bpm tap button over and over. Eventually, you'll get little messages at the bottom of the screen saying different things, until, finally, it'll say Congratulations!
As far as the functionality, I havn't figured out how to make the actual auto looping work. I'll post it once I do, holding it over peoples heads is sort of obnoxious IMO.

Hey, it's not an official feature yet, that's why it's hidden away - completely isolated as to not impede on any performance or stability. It's definitely not there to insult or annoy people. Plus, you forgot the trancifier. Alt-T/G

I haven't even had time to install 1.7 let alone sit and fgure out cookies, so i'm sure there's lot of people that need this feature and would be chuffed to use it even in this limited functionality form.

Ah Man, most of you on here have no sense of adventure. I'm a little bummed that the egg's been hatched so soon. I liked messing about with it, trying to figure it out, listening to everyone freak out (myself included) trying to get this mystery solved.
And besides........
Now instead of a bunch o' kids shouting to skies "how do I get this thing to work?", they're instead going to be shouting on this forum about how it doesn't work properly, and why is it taking so long for an official release........ugggghhh!
Basic - you ruined my fun! If you wanted to 'spill the beans' you should have made a new thread entitled - "Spoiled Egg"

But what should happen by presing Alt-G or T?

You of course have to unlock the easter egg first. Alt-T to start it, Alt-T to pause it, loop to release.

Ok, now it works. Thought, that i had to push ALT-T again and again to make the loop shorter- that was my fault. Thank YOU

But i think there could be some improvements to the ALT+T function. Can i just open an issue in the public Beta forum or shoul i just write here, as you don't want everybody to know about?
Ok, i'll start here: You can hear steps of decreasing the length of the loop, not in the beginnung, but in the end, it would sound much better if this would slowly shorten down but seemlessly...

You can do it by hand also:
start with 8bar to 4 to 2 to 1 and then press P and then decrease the lenght with the left arrow-key.
I mean this function the move the loop-end-point forward and backwards manually. That works also

Thanx Mike B. for not infinitely playing the silly game.
To give more detail, you have to mouse-click or [alt] then spacebar tap on a non-playing deck.
Example:
1. Start SSL and wait for your library to load.
2. Hold down [alt + spacebar] to initialize the {tap} pane on one of your TT decks.
3. Start hitting the spacebar and you'll see the bpms increment (the faster you hit, the quicker you'll get it over with). Little messages will say "almost there" ... "Congratulations...cookies...features, etc..."
4. Load your favorite joint and let it play.
5. Hit ex: [alt + 5] and you'll see a 8-bar loop magically appear and keep repeating itself on an 8-bar count. Hitting [alt + 5] again will disable this loop and let the song continue.
You can walk the loop down the line by doing [alt + 4,3,2 or 1]... pretty nice. My boy flexed this feature on me with his Tracktor. I got 'em now...
PS: My EVoodoo curse still stands :-)

Anyone ever play Bloodstorm in the arcade? It was the sequel to timekillers. A streetfighter type fighting game. Cool thing was it had 9 hidden characters you could fight. Almost every level had a different trick to fight a different character, and to really beat the game you had to beat all of em. Took me years to figure it all out, but I beat it damnit!

yes, there is a version of Duke3d that does run on XP. There is also a high res pack that of course..duh.. runs in high resolution and alot of the sprites have been remodeled in 3d; however it did run pretty crappy on my computer (Athlon 3800+ 64 X2; two 7800GT 256m, 2gig ram) I guess they have to optimize it to run better.
Check it out here, hrp.duke4.net

I want to use reverse while im drumming cues (using alt+e or d)
But with the recent autoloop feature, I cant tap the reverse via alt + e or d while hitting cues because I would activate the auto loops instead. If you could hear the chopped up drumming I could do with that technique, you would know why I am bummed that I cant do it anymore(it was dope!). Anyway to implement a pause button instead?(seeing as you probably wont change the reverse button placement)

My question is.... in konix's vids how does he go from the the 1 beat loop and then make it snare faster and faster???
I can manage to go through the loops using the alt (1-5) and alt (6-0) but the snare thingy has got me.
And what is it that the alt t and and alt g does exactly?? I tried pressin it but it does nothing from what i can gather. Much appreciated

Kool DJ Sheak One, i'd love it if you could film/record what you are talking about and upload it to a common sharing site, for the rest of us to see what you mean. Just the key combo/patterns you are talking about, perhaps, using 1.6.3 since you canm't do it in 1.7.x, or is it only AFTER you have done the ticky tap trick that you are unable to use the key combonation?
Kool DJ Sheak One
7:54 PM - 30 January, 2007
Ya. Shit man. I have been waiting for keylock since I chucked my Final Scratch. But I have been honing my drumming skill on Serato since 1.3. using reverse buttons and censor(a two handed affair!) I can't do it even if the egg is'nt activated. I knew something was up 1 minute after installing 1.7. I just did'nt know they were reserving the alt and cues for the old dirty auto looping.
I guess i should just go back to 1.6.3 since it actually saves my loop/cue points. And I should make a video. Good idea, so I can show Serato what I lost for this stinkin auto loop/tracifier thing.
How many of you are actually going to be using the "Trancifier" more than once in your life? Shit is kinda corny to me. Gimme my reverse back dammit!!!

You wanna talk about clues? How about this for reading comprehension...
I didn't see a SINGLE post "clue"ing me into the fact that people wanted to figure the thing out for themselves so they could gain satisfaction. I did see a ton of posts asking to be told how to do it...I took those posts as clues that people wanted to know, and didn't have time or ability to figure it out themselves. When I saw what a great feature this was, and how it would be something that could immediately make your sets cooler, I decided to share with everybody. The clues told me it was the right thing to do, and if you're looking for more clues, I don't see a single person posting telling me I'm a jerk for ruining their satisfaction with regards to figuring things out themseles.
All I see are a bunch of thank yous, and then there's you...so if I ruined YOUR fun but made a bunch of other people happy...I'm glad...hows that for a clue.

mexicannnnn, let me put it this way ; god forbid you got some nasty health problem, and some scientist find out the cure for it: now, would you like him to share his " secret " or let you spend unneeded time to find it out by yourself ? It´s not the same , but we are talking about " i know what you don´t , and i am going to make you go insane untill you find out " ? For me , i figured it out with the " tapping the BPM ", but i still find this whole thing stupid , and lame.. As i said , we are here to share knowledge and experience , not mocking.. But i guess , some people share , others are selfish. For me being lazy ,if i was, i wouldn´t be sitting every day after work with my friend , programing, and finding the way to controll auto loops with midi , not just loops , but cuepoints aswell. So if the 1.8 don´t support MIDI , and we find the way to do it , trust me , i´ll be the one sharing that application with the rest of the forum, but i guess , you would never do such a thing, wouldn´t you ? And before you say , that it´s not posible , bla bla bla , it´s just programing and coding , which i happe

John, comparing life saving cures and easter eggs is a bit of a far stretch. I understand what your trying to say but you have to understand that there is self-satisfaction when people solve problems that aren't so obvious.
It's a good feeling knowing that you solved a problem!
... and I don't doubt you will be able to map midi to cue points, loops...etc. There are programs that map midi to keys (midi-stoke?).
If your trying to map midi directly to button click events in serato that would also be pretty cool as well.

ok, resurrecting this post.
i unlock the auto loop and use it during my set. i unplug the usb from my laptop to the SL1 and play a vinyl, so that my partner can use his laptop/crates with that same SL1 box. I don't close down serato, but when i re-plug in later in the night to play my second set, the feature is gone and it won't let me unlock it again.
anyone else having this problem? just restart inbetween sets?

um, a quick question. is the length of the loop determined by the bpm as a whole number as shown in ssl, or does it take into account the decimal places too (wich are stored in the tag anyway, is there a concrete reason for not showing the decimals?)

yes.. there have been several disscussions about that. For alot of us it gets way too cluttered in the browser area of SSL when you add the decimal places. And the decimal places are not needed to mix b/c you use you ears to mix.. not the decimal places (but im trying tofigure out a way to not irritate my earlobes while mixing :-P ) The loops.. from what i understand.. in 1.7.2 use the decimal places. The decimal places are to make the loops and effects (on the 57) alot more accurate..

Yes it does. And works even better as it uses the decimal BPMs, so it's more precise.
Remember, you have to unlock it every time you start SSL. Do it first thing before you even load your first track.
If you scanned your track with 1.7.2 for the decimal BPM, then yes it will take the decimal into account. As mentioned, it makes for more precise loops.

With no track loaded click on the tap bpm button. Hold down the space bar till you see the words Congratulations.
Alt+1 for a 1 beat loop on the left deck,
alt+2 for a 2 beat loop,
alt+3 for a 4 beat loop,
alt+4 for an 8 beat loop,
alt+5 for a 16 beat loop.
Same for the right deck with 6-0.
THen theres something with ALT+T that i dunno how to use.

ALT+T (left) or ALT+G (right) makes a stutter loop, it keeps cutting the loop in half until you get a buzz type sound. That, in combination with a power down, sounds pretty cool.
Normally I don't think there's a 16 beat loop, only 1/2, 1, 2, 4 and 8 beats. If you have 16 then your BPM is halved or doubled, not sure which exactly at the moment.

Easter Egg in Serato 1.7
For those of you who are using 1.7 already, there's a hidden feature. Auto looping is in. You can set a loop of 1, 2, 4, 8 or 16 beats. Here's how:
When you open up serato, before loading a song onto the deck, click the bpm tap button 100 times. As you go you'll start to get little messages at the bottom of the screen. Finally it'll tell you congratulations.
Now, hold down Alt and use the number keys to set desired length loops. 1-5 for the left deck, 6-0 for the right deck. Experiment...it's pretty dope. If you wanna make that effect where you get into loops smaller than 1 beat, just once you get down to 1 beat, hit the "out" button so that it allows you to reset the out point, and use the left arrow key to make your loop smaller. You can then bring your loop down to a stutter, then hit the loop button to turn the loop off and let the song play again. This can create some really cool effects.
Also, you can use alt+t and alt+g to start a loop that starts at 2 beats, then keep cutting itself in half automatically.
For any of this to work your tracks must be BPM-ed.....you can do it manually....even half tap song BPMs then write it into the BPM colum....MUST BE ACCURATE!!!! or it will be out of beat!!
Mess around with it...this is the death of bore ass limp dicked juke-box lame make me wanna shoot my left nut off fake djs.....lol use it with care...with great power cum the bitches on the dancefloor...WET-PANTY DEM!!!!!
