i can see multiple instances of the app running, which doesn't work on my pc, is that a mac?

so this "feature" of not having it is because rane cannot sufficiently find a way of protecting their investment!

internal sound hardware is nowhere near as good as the (expensive) external sound card that is the SL1.

i would be worried that if i tried a whole set with multiple instances of this app, all running thru the onboard sound hardware that my laptop my go up in flames..

rane should find a way of protecting their revenue AND provide offline pitch control..just because there are problems, doesn't mean we should give up!

with respect..

How exactly is providing pitch control for offline player protecting Rane/Serato's revenue?

the ONLY way to find out is to set up the laptop with the SL1 THEN see..

with offline pitch control i would not need to..

If Rane/Serato provided pitch control for offline player, There wouldnt be a need for Serato in general. Try PCDJ, MixMeister, Virtual DJ if you want to go that route.

that would solve concerns for ranes revenue over SSL functionality!

I've never seen a more transparent attempt to cover up the fact that you can't afford the SSL hardware. Too many people here have seen the same argument too many times for us to believe you this time.

In my 19 years of DJ'ing, I have NEVER had the need to hear a song pitched up/down BEFORE I decided to ... what? Buy it? Add it to your crates? You make no sense at all.

But you said some songs might not sound right pitched at a certain speed, and you needed the ability to adjust the speed.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I thought Keylock was to adjust the song so you could make adjustments to the SPEED, and not have it sounding like Alvin and the Chipmunks.

why do you need to be able to shift the pitch WITHOUT the box plugged in?? Also why cant you just preview your track in the headphones at the gig and see if it sounds good or not?? Why would you need the ability to modify the pitch without another track to match it to

Here's what I'm thinking:

1. Copy a Playlist
2. Copy all MP3's of the playlist into a folder
3. Import that folder into SSL in offline mode.
4. Enable Pitch Control and Sync via Easter Egg
5. Play anyones playlist at 128.5 BPM all night.
6. Profit $100

BONUS: "Customize" playlists by changing order of songs but make sure SYNC is still enabled.

"so you could" make adjustments, not ACTUALLY MAKE the adjustments..

pitch shift mangles basslines IMO, so i don't use it..

i've found on long note basslines the pitch shift (which some people seem to call "keylock") seems to introduce an almost rhythmical quality to it, i.e., MANGLES IT!

i've never been comfortable with "reading the room", or the dancefloor, i think most "djs" are guessers..

IMO there are record players and there are dj's, but they all CALL themselves "djs"!

anyway, i'm on the radio atm...in a club situation that has more importance, i agree.

...bbbbut you could always build a few sets..i like my sets to go as PERFECTLY as possible..that's why i do it.

See I really dont need to pay much attention to the room because I know when i play people are going to dance, thats what I do. As far as waveforms I dont really need them, i have enough experience that I always have a good idea about where the lines are and where I need to get them too.
