ripping copy protected cd

hi, i have a copy protected cd (switch 2 - compilation cd) which is totally unreadable on my pc (tested on others too).
so for some reason a pc-cd-player can't read that disc
tried several programs without any luck, best bet is that it is the drive itself which is not capable of reading this disc. does anyone knows of a way to get around this?
thx!

it's an old one (2002)
on the back there is a label that says it's copy protected
but apparently so good that the disc isn't recognised in my laptops.
the label on the back specifically states that it won't play on computer drives
can't try on my regular home cd player since it is broken for a while (and i don't see the need to buy a new one :) )
oh well, not that important, i was just annoyed that i couldn't rip it..

^ Isn't that one of those CDs that started the whole RootKit scandal?
I agree with this as you've already purchased the CD and simply cannot rip it. Actually, from what you've said, you can't even PLAY it. I say that the DRM mess gives you a pass for this CD.
Keep in mind, I'm not a lawyer. I just play one on the Serato ITCH forums.

yeah i could do that
but i'de rather ripped the cd
dunno about the rootkit scandal but maybe it is....
i do remember that they pulled the plug out of those protection mechanism
i'll check if a rootkit got installed
but if i recall correctly it had something to do with the way pc cd players read the disc (optimized for data) and some kind of bit aligment was wrong so it couldn't be read by pc cd players... so it was a hardware protection in the player itself...
i'll try to find the paper on that....
:)

I would get a cd player with an optical output and burn it to a cd recorder, with an optical input. That way you still get a digital copy and then rip that onto your computer. Will it copy the copy protection too? IDK, but it is worth a try. Being that your cd player is messed up though that might not be an option. You don't have a cd recorder either, do you? Send me the CD, I could do it for you.

Oh, never mind, you are in Belgium. The shipping cost would be prohibitive.

Try ripping it on a linux machine, windows sometimes "cooperates" too much with this crappy protection systems. Also there are some cd drives that get around that old prtection system. I have a plextor dvdrw and dont have a problem with those type of cds, i do get issues on LGs and Samsungs.

Rip it on a mac. I remember having to do this a while ago, ...the PC couldn't see the disc, but the Mac had no problem.

Another happy customer that DIDN'T resort to downloading as a solution. These forums are great.
