Hi - I turned on my computer and itch this morning and my crates are missing - i read another thread about this and it seems to be a common thing (although the post was aimed at MAC - hence this request) .
There was only one crate left - the crate that i had been playing the night before at home - why would they disappear?
Could you tell me where the crates infor is stored please?
I am running a cut down version of Xp Pro streamlined for performance - all the music (except for an emergency back up of a hundred or so tunes on the 2nd disk partition) are stored on an external 500GB Samsung Portable USB Drive.
The main spec of the computer is as follows:
Core 2 Duo 2.2gHZ
4 GB Ram
I just checked the power options and i have now set the hard drive to turn off=never and performance to be 'always on' (it was at 30min hard drive off 15 min monitor off) - could this be the problem?
Also - how can i get these crates back - it took me a while to organise everything and i am playing live tomorrow night and could do with getting this resolved before then.
Where is all the BPM / Beatgrid and crate info stored - on the Hard Drive or in MyDocuments on XP - also wher does Itch back up to?
Thanks in Advance.

Hi Shonkyboy,

Crates can disappear for many reasons, usually due to ITCH not exiting correctly or an external drive being removed incorrectly.

Your crates are stored in the Music/_Serato_ /Subcrates folder on your internal drive and in the _Serato_/Subcrates folder in the root directory of any external hard drives. If a crate has been deleted you'll find it in the Trash, so move it back to it's original location in one of these folders to restore it. If you've backed up, copies of your crates can be found in the _SeratoBackup_/Subcrates folder.

All BPM/beatgrid information is stored in the audio file itself.

Hi Michael - i looked in the Music/_Serato_ /Subcrates folder and there were no crates in there the other day - i recreated the crates this weekend (well some of them - and they now appear there - on Friday - there wasnt a crates folder in there at all)

Hey Shonkyboy,

Have you emptied your trash since then? If you look in there now are the .crate files still there?

Are your rebuilt crates still there or have they disappeared too?

I ended up having to reload them all - :(

That's no good :(

Going forward, the best thing I can recommend is that you manually and automatically back up your ITCH library.

To manually back up your library, make a copy of the _Serato_ folders on your internal and external hard drives.

ITCH will automatically back up your _Serato_ folder into a folder called _SeratoBackup_. You will be prompted to back up on exit if your existing _SeratoBackup_ folder is over a week old.

Hi Shonnkyboy

I've given the Serato team some more detail on your issues, here and with the missing BPM post and think this'll help shed some light on possible cause/s.
Will be back with info for you asap.

Cheers

Hey Shonkyboy,

I see in your other thread (serato.com) that you've mentioned:

Quote:
if windows 7 is causing permission errors on the drive every time i plug it in then that might be the root of the problem - and maybe go somewhere to explaining the missing crates thing as well.

This is correct, if you don't have the correct permissions your crates won't be able to save. Have to been able to fix the permissions?

hmm still looking into that one - im thinking on the safe side just to keep that disk solely for the laptop/dx and not put it near the main machine - not had any missing crates this week or missing bpms - as the disk hasnt left the laptop of been near the main machine (win 7) - so i think its a fair assumption that the problem is related to Windows 7 and its stupid file ownership permissions bollocks. If only i can now figure out how to turn the bloody thing off .......... :)
Unless anyone else has any other ideas??????

Hey Shonkyboy,

Here's a couple of articles which might help solve your permissions problem:

First, try disabling the Windows User Access Control option -> www.sevenforums.com
Next, try setting Windows to "take ownership" of the drive and folders -> www.blogsdna.com

Please let me know if these help at all.
