I'm listening to the full mix....damn I wish that I did events where I could take it back like that. Usually I'm in joints where I'm pretty much restricted to the current radio stuff. :-(

Have you tried the rane 56... does it function the same?...
I lug around a 56 and a Pioneer efx 500... this could be a better solution... does the 909's effects work as good as the efx 500 ?

sadly, I've never had an opportunity to spend much time on a 56, so I can't say how it compares to the 909.
what effects do you use on the efx 500? I tend to use Hold Echo 99% of the time on the 909...

damn, has anyone listened to the entire JAZZY-tastic set at the bottom of that page? it's off the hook...shit, at the 24 minute mark, he went transform crazy!!
DJ Silk
4:31 PM - 4 February, 2005
I listened...it was crazy.
He is a beast.
I've never been one to use efx. The only mixer that I ever had was the Gemini 2402 which had the 12 second sampler on it. I'll admit that Jazzy does have me curious about the 909...although it would come second to my 56.
I think trying to compare the 56 against the 909 is like trying to compare apples and oranges.

I know that they do sponsor him.
I was thinking about instead of getting another 56 for home I would get a 909. But I'll have to test it out first before I drop that kind of cash.
I do love my 56 though, and I think the one that I have gets lonely sometimes. :-)

A lot of old school DJ's now have gone to waste or are just shit. Jeff still rocks it. Speaking of old school DJ's, I met Afrika Islam recently of IceT/Rhyme Syndicate fame. Funny guy.

To be honest, Jazzy jeff in these video clips looks a shadow of his former self. Most of the stuff he's doing here doesnt really show SSL to be that amazing to be honest. Perhaps its because he's using it in Absolute mode? surely these cats should be using it in relative, its much better and brings the DJ a whole new range of things he can do!

What can you do in relative that u cant do in absolute mode? How does the responce differ from the two?

Good to see you again, Thebasement. Things are going well for me - how about you?
It could be a power surge that caused an audio dropout, but I can't say for sure. Sorry...

basically, its alot better, the thing is, you mention training wheels, but surely by using serato anyway, you are not conforming to the traditional way of djing! so you may as well take advantage of what it can do! you dont need to keep putting the needle at the start of each track! anyone else know where i'm coming from!?!?

He's no shadow, he just didn't show a lot of his stuff in those videos...wasn't really the environment for it.

yes i know, thats why i said, "Jazzy jeff in these video clips looks a shadow of his former self". You will notice i said "in these video clips". Jazzy jeff is actually my favourite dj, and has been for nearly 20 years!

rix is right, why not be creative and use relative mode and actually do something new that really harnesses the technology? there is no point in cueing up the old way if you can jump to markers, and if you can cut well, you can cut well, there is no 'cheating'.

My bad. Didn't understand you meant that in these videos it makes it look like he lost a step because he isn't doing what I know he's capable of doing on the 1 and 2's.
