Serato Software Feature Suggestions

What features would you like to see in Serato software?

Identical column layout for all crates - option

Patman 12:31 PM - 8 November, 2006
At the risk of repeating a requested feature (apologie upfront), here goes:

I like to switch the columns in my own order which can be done nicely.
Can you also make it possible to set the new layout to all existing and upcoming crate creations.

E.g
when I switch the column setting to:
Artist, BPM, time, Album

this new setting becomes the default column layout for all columns.

Would be nice.
Great product guys, I hope you stay ahead of the competition!
grrillatactics 1:43 PM - 8 November, 2006
I like this idea. Or even just having uniform column widths, i.e. I set the column widths for one crate, and this width becomes the column width for all crates.
AKIEM 7:03 PM - 8 November, 2006
agree
AmphetaMarinE 2:53 PM - 9 November, 2006
I agree too... its bloody annoying having to do the same thing to every crate....
grrillatactics 10:47 PM - 3 December, 2006
This deserves a B-U-M-P!!!

Patman's suggestion is great, and I have to agree with me on the column widths thing as well, as these two ideas go hand-in-hand, imo.
digital_steve 12:12 AM - 4 December, 2006
+1 to this
Should be pretty easy to implement too ... So hopefully it'll be put in sooner rather than later.
CMOS 4:46 AM - 4 December, 2006

grrillatactics 9:57 PM - 28 December, 2006
I am saddened to see how far this suggestion has fallen...

So I will bump it!

This would be wicked
Soulsonica™ 10:35 PM - 4 January, 2007
Amen and Bizzump!

I hate having all the columns out of whack everytime I change crates, libraries, etc. VERY annoying to say the least.

Same column widths and order of columns between different views/browsing would be awesome.
digital_steve 11:28 PM - 4 January, 2007
1.7.1 maybe... hopefully :)

a column feature would save me from suicide *g*
prizo 7:54 PM - 21 January, 2007
yeh this is a give in, should of came with version 1.3
gars 10:30 PM - 27 January, 2007
yes. a little "apply view to all crates" would do
digital_steve 12:53 AM - 28 January, 2007
I just had to reformat and set up SSL again.
If i have to re-do all my views again... i'll kill myself.
Please god let the view carry over when i upgrade to 1.7.1 when it comes out!
Basster 11:21 AM - 7 February, 2007

Superduper bump, not to complain to the geniouses behind SSL, but why wasn't this one of the first implementations? :)

maara 5:34 PM - 20 November, 2007
i like this idea... i am almost confused when switching crates and there is different layout
Dj Spox 8:58 PM - 21 November, 2007
as i remeber scratch toolz can do that...
a DJ 5:11 AM - 11 February, 2008
Yes I would like this too, even though I know ScratchTools does it.
musiclee 6:21 AM - 7 March, 2008
PLEASE add this in 1.8.1

it's ridiculous for me or anyone to have to MANUALLY sort their columns (crates) say 50 times, instead of once

how bout you hold down ctrl while you move or drag and it applies to ALL crates.

sounds so elementary and necessary

+1 million
musiclee 6:22 AM - 7 March, 2008
ctrl and <
to add/remove colums for ALL crates/subcrates as well
Konix 1:33 PM - 7 March, 2008
Note to all, by default, when you make a new crate, it follows the order/format of the ALL crate. If you want newly made crates to follow a specific order/format, setup the ALL crate with the columns you only want and the order you want them in (e.g. song - artist - BPM - genre - comment), then any new crate/subcrate you make will have this format also. If you use iTunes playlists instead of crates, it's even easier. Just setup the ALL crate, untick and re-tick the Read iTunes box, viola.
G-man NYC 10:15 PM - 7 March, 2008
This is something I really would like as well.

The problem is even if you do it the way Konix says... which is how I have in the past... you STILL have to reset all your column sizes in your SMART playlists everytime there's a file added with a longer name than the column that you had previously set up. I use lots of smart playlists so this can be quite annoying.

I would also like to see a "keep everything the way it was" type button because I have a bunch of folders that I don't use that often (old playlists from one off gigs mostly) that I have to collapse everytime I open SSL.
a DJ 9:36 PM - 8 March, 2008
This is so annoying. It's broken in iTunes too. I rather have one view for all modes that works, then have them concentrate on adding seperate views if needed.
deejaysomething 10:24 AM - 10 March, 2008
Thanks very much Konix; nice to have that behaviour confirmed. Is it documented in the wiki?
musiclee 5:12 PM - 10 March, 2008
one view would be better,
it's a big pain in the @ss to have to change every crate/subcrate
mobius909 11:44 PM - 2 May, 2008
wow, we still don't have this feature? *shakes head in disappointment*
BleedR 12:05 PM - 26 September, 2008
+1

resizing columns on all should do it for all other creates! maybe in options there should be a way to enable/disable!
I'm bored of resizing all crates each start of ssl cause it auto resizes them to the longest tags, argh!

as konix says just set your "all" crate to how you want it to be then every new crate from now on will be the same as your "all" crate
Tommy-V 10:25 AM - 5 October, 2008
Yes, that will take care of the ORDER of the columns, not the SIZE, this will be different in every crate. Set to the longest text in every single column.
What we would like to see is that we can set a default order AND size for every crate.

I agree. It would also be nice to expand the column widths past the longest text if needed. I think that needs to be added first or else some columns will be different as you go from crate to crate due to the fact that some will have shorter texts in various columns.
mobius909 9:41 PM - 27 October, 2008
but what about the filenames that have extra spaces and characters that you don't really care about?

1.90 beta doesn't have it either if you can believe that.
C. William 11:37 PM - 23 February, 2009
I just bought Serato after using Traktor for about 8 months and can't believe simple stuff like this isn't implemented.
Konix 1:57 AM - 5 March, 2009
This is now an option in 1.9 (public beta 3). Now all crates will follow the column order/format of the "All..." crate if you have the "custom crates column" option UNCHECKED in the setup menu.

So now, just set the All crate with the columns you want and the order you want them in and all your crates will have this format.
Jimmy Lawson 11:20 PM - 19 June, 2009
Nice one, that saves a bit of time and makes quick referencing when switching between crates so much easier. THANKS GUYS

+50! All of my crate columns are now the same SIZE and sorted by BPM by default. Thanks Konix!

Hello all i'm trying to set up a view that i would like for all crates, but i can not chance the layout of the all crate, so do i have to do it manualy still for all crates ?
Jimmy Lawson 5:12 PM - 1 March, 2013
Have you tried Going into setings and check or uncheck custom crates, I think it's in your library options?
DJData 6:17 PM - 1 March, 2013
yes i did, did not make any difference, also protect library.
Jimmy Lawson 11:09 AM - 2 March, 2013
The protected Library tab won't make a difference to the layout I don't think.
I found that un-checking the "Custom Crate Columns" sorted it for me leaving all columns the same throughout all crates in my Library.
Might be worth starting a help thread as I'm sure that it's sortable.
DJData 11:17 AM - 2 March, 2013
Thanks, and i did ;-).

Custom crate columns has been a toggle setting forever...even this thread was last posted in 4 years ago.
