Technics Turntables

RalphD 7:48 PM - 31 January, 2010
I'm a new dj looking to find a complete set-up. Can anyone tell me the difference between the Technics 1200 and Technics 1210 turntables?

I will be using Serato Live. Can you also please tell me what Serato I will need to pick up? I see that there is a SL1 and SL3?

Thank you for your help!

The major difference between 1200 and 1210 is the color. The 1210 is always black and the 1200 is usually silver.

The best option for buying new tables right now is the 1210M5G. Parts are in limited supply for MK2s right now. I've heard that the MK6 will make it outside of Japan soon and the two models that will be available worldwide will be the M5G and MK6, which means the MK5 will be discontinued.

Anybody have a black 1200? I have a black 1200 and a 1210. They look exactly alike.

1210 is the uk version and is able to switch voltage. The switch is underneath the platter.

Not true. Both models were made in both colors. The 1210 has a voltage selector switch on the power supply that's accessible under the platter.

I knew about the voltage selector and I have seen black 1200s, but I have never seen a silver 1210.

if money is no object:
1210's Turntables
Poineer Mixer DJM 400 or better I have RCA 2 XLR adapters to plug into the Main Sound Board
Serato SL3
Macbook Pro/ or Windows Vista/ with 4Gigs RAM Windows 7 I feel is not ready yet. but I don't have 7 anyways so, keep what works.
External Drive 1.5TB
Please Buy a custom Case with Built-in Fans. Then you can put this together yourself.
I gave up using pre-made cases. The internal power board burns out. But if you get on with a Switch then this works well too. Make use to disconnect properly, to avoid damage to your Drive.

Basic DJ Pools:
Promo Only
Crooklynclan
Beatport
DJcity
my12in.com
mymp3pool.com
8thwonderpromos.com
This list goes on, and you can trade with other DJ's that want to push there mixes.

I hope this helps.

My buddy owns one. I did a cleanup and ground-wire removal mod on it about six weeks ago. It has the EU plug, the voltage switch, and a silver plinth.

All M3Ds, MK5s, M5Gs, and MK6s lack a center click in the pitch slider.

I have a pair of 1210's MK2 and they HAVE the click on the pitch. You can mod it and take it off.
mikehabit 4:26 AM - 3 February, 2010
I have a pair of 17 year old SL1210mk2 (black). They do have a dip at the 0 pitch. I think the mk3's were the first to be dipless at 0 pitch and also have a reset.

I also have SL3 and I have never had a probelm with it running on a mac book pro.
djbeats 5:08 AM - 4 February, 2010
my sl 1200mk3's have the click and no reset button. its exactly like a 1210 mk2

rockin 1210 MK5's. If I woulda had more money I woulda bought the M5G's but the MK5's were on sale for $549 a piece I couldn't turn it down. bought em in 04. I personally do not like the click i can mix better w/o the click.
