Best Place to Rent Speakers in NYC

I have a gig at the end of october for a school. I dont own speakers. I use my computers 5.1 surround sound system for practice.

Anyone know where i can rent speakers for one night in NYC? I hoping to get powered speakers.

With powered speakers i dont need an amp, i just plug the outs of my mixer into the speakers ...Correct? Would i then just daisy chain the speakers to each other?

Which model would you go for? I was looking at the JBL EOS 15 in i think those will fit in the backseat or trunk of my car.

The Gig is for 7-8th graders at a school where my friend teaches. Its in the cafeteria but the cafeteria is L shaped and they will close off half the room.

i always hit up the guys @ the ORIGINAL DJ Pro Audio - their rental department always takes care of me. Plus these are the guys that sponsor the DMC Battls, Airplay Battles, and the DJ Gong Show (RIP Roc Raida). So you know they know their stuff.

These guys serve NYC and Long Island. Have some nice gear. Usually they like to install everything for you. But you can rent single items too.

Obviously the go-to rental house nowadays is Sound House, the name says it all - hands down the best place to rent speakers. (btw, they don't really rent out jbls or mackies, mainly all qsc, which cost twice as much to buy, but not to rent :)

Always open to the public and no appointment needed, just walk in and set-up your rental, even test a variety of speakers to see which ones best fits your needs.

I recently rented a couple of 15" speakers from Sound Rentals NYC . I found them on Yelp.

It was pretty cool. I booked it online (www.soundrentalsnyc.com) and the guys delivered it for free at Venue for in the east village.

Very, very smooth transaction. sound was excellent and the same guy who delivered the speakers returned right when the event ended to pick them up. I literally I did not have to do anything beyond the booking.
This is a great, great service and I can recommend it to anyone.

damn 2006, i remember you saying not to long ago that when you wanted to buy speakers you would come to me/pdidy/gaffle for advise

really it's about to be 2015 and you still haven't got a pair…….MAN go get you some speakers already…..lol

imma help you out, the cheapest best sounding speaker you can buy IMHO

Hey Joee I am actually looking to purchase those speakers you posted. Question: What would be, I guess for a lack of a better word, the threshold of these speakers in terms of room size and the amount of people in said event? I'm sure these would be able to hold down like a house party, but what about gigs like bbqs, small bars, etc?

Ha. I really have no need for speakers at the moment. Pretty much do club gigs where everything is setup, plus I live in a 4th floor walkup so fuck that for the time being lol.

If I ever move to mobiles (unlikely here in nyc, theres too many bars/clubs) you guys will be the people I come talk to.

Both of them are a specialist and have the ability to turn your event into a very memorable experience for your audience. We have rented speakers several times from a few different rental houses. Most places are open to you testing them out in-house before you proceed with the rental. If you are ever working remote or in a larger venue, we have you covered with walkie talkie rentals and WiFi hotspot rentals (great for location work and needing a steady internet connection).
