Show me your VCI setup for mobile gigs (not home and club)

chims 12:48 AM - 14 December, 2009
Alright, we've seen the thread with the VCI setup in your home and studio and at times, club booths. This is for all you mobile djs who have to set up on your own stands or tables. I just started using my VCI at gigs, but my setup is lacking just putting it on a table with a table skirt at private events. It's so minimal, which is awesome, but presentation wise, I think I need to bring it up a notch. Anyone have their own stands setup, use cross stands, fold up dj booths or anything else to show? If you do, please also review the stability of it. Thanks.

@DJ_X_Trodinaire i like that flight case as well as the marathon ones with the laptop shelf built into it. couple questions that the photos couldn't explain to me: does it have wheels? and can you store the laptop in the space where your external harddrive is when you're packed up and on the go?

Powerfull set of mackies you got there... You drive it by just 1 sub? or 2 subs?

For private parties, I use 2 mackies with 2 15" subs in most cases. And still I think the Subs aren't deep enough. Guess I like the 18" more soundwise...

What is your experience?

I'll be moving my stuff to an Odyssey style case in the new year, but at the moment it looks like this;

@Ian, HOLY CRAP that is a hell of a rig you got there. What event was that? Looks like you brought a whole club studio with you. I think you pretty much pooped on everyone else's mobile rig that I could think of. Let's just end this thread on this note. ;)

:-)

unfortunately I can't even begin to take the credit for what you're seeing.

All the theming, lighting, P.A. Etc us handled by specialist companies. ...I just Wales in with my little case containing my VCI 300, & a rucksack with two mac's, the fx controller & my heaphones in it!

The case my controller's in also contains power supply's for lappy's, vci, & USB cooler pad. So it's just mains in to the case, audio out, usb's, then start work.

(posted on iPhone, so excuse the dodgy grammar!)

....that iPhone spell checker's a pain in the arse!!

My set up is normally a lot neater than this, but we're up on a gantry over erybody's heads, so they can't see all our mess.

The plan for the new year is to move the controller & power supplies in to one of these;

well for this party, it was a short room but wide... so thats why the 4 mains... 2 450's for the dance floor, 2 350's for the sides so the tables could get some good sound too. If it were a bigger hall, it would have been two subs... but in this case, just one... PLUS i fit ALL this crap in my 95 mitsubishi 3000gt! lol :) btw... a good sized folding hand truck is very good to have...

but anyway, it really depends on the venue for what speakers i bring... i do an outdoor party for this same company for which i bring 2 subs, and 4 450's... also there is another large banquet facility in town for which i would do the same...

but this was the type of party where i started with 2 and a half hours of light christmas music and then went to funk and old dance music and new stuff and back and forth while taking requests to kill my dancefloor like ring of fire and a couple others... so basically i had to have good quality sound everywhere and weaker on the sides.. the one sub was perfect for me... only started limiting once when i had the dance floor pumping hard...

in the gator rack is a pc with winamp running... good for the 2 and a half hours of christmas music for entry, cocktail hour, and dinner. plus i had a huge meal with them too so it is good to have winamp doing the work for me. also there is a small behringer mixer and stereo eq in there and a drawer for mics and cards and pens and stuff..

with the vci, a marathon case, stanton uberstand, and a&h headphones.

about the subs... i think the 18" would be better for outside... live bands or djing outside. two of those and some mains, and its all gravy from there... i think the 18's are better for a crowd at a distance, the 15's are plenty for an inside crowd... unless the room is HUGE!

lol chims it does not have wheels its pretty light.
this case has the sliding shelf for a keyboard which i just prefer to use it to hold my HD and power supply for it and the laptop. Im sure you can put a 13" laptop? if you put padding around it? But I use a a bag for my Laptop and HD. I have 3 rigs that i pick and choose so having my laptop in a separate bag is a must. you can leave your Laptop on top of the sliding shelf but it was not recommended by the odyssey...

Where can you buy one of those magmas?
Ian Williams 10:18 AM - 15 December, 2009
there's an option to buy on the website, but the case isn't actually available yet. ....I believe it's due anytime now.

Magma are german though, so I've no idea what availability will be like in the U.S.
Kmxorbit 1:10 PM - 17 December, 2009
@DJdavez: thanks for your explanation. As I said I use the 450's and 1501's mostly for private parties. They sure have loads of available power. Still I miss some depth in the subs, but that's possibly because I like deep subs (the ones that make your stomach go crazy ;-D)
DJdaveZ 4:59 PM - 17 December, 2009
I dont know what you mean by "deep" subs.. the 15" and 18" are rated for 36hz and 35hz respectively... they have pretty much the same range...
Kmxorbit 10:36 PM - 17 December, 2009
Yeah I know, but for one reason or another the sound of the 18" is more pleasant and deeper.
