is anyone still using version 1.4

djtk 5:26 PM - 21 August, 2006
i have the last edition of the mac powerbook before the macbook came out, and i have been seeing alot of people have problems with ssl since the official version 1.5 was released. am i the only one who rather stick to the more stable version with less features? i plan on changing when the next batch of macbooks come out, but as long as i use my powerbook, i see no need for the change.

I'm still using 1.4 since my scare with 1.5 during a gig. I'm thinking about going to 1.6 but I'm not too sure. I need to do more testing before I can be comfortable outside of 1.4

after a buttload of problems with 1.5, 1.6 has been flawless. I just think it was 1.5 with the problems.
djxatl 6:25 PM - 21 August, 2006
i usually test for a week or so

i was using 1.5 since it was released, i switch to 1.6.1 and i didnt like it cause of the jumpy wave forms so i got rid of it and went back to 1.5, i just switch to 1.6.2 and have been using it for two weeks now with no problems at all....

i figured it was just 1.5 too until i heard some people had similar problems with 1.6 in the help forum. a few of my friends told me that the new macbooks and powermacs are more stable with 1.6 than the powerbooks. i'm not sure about how accurate this is, but i'm not trying to pay 2 grand just yet to try out this theory. at the same time, i can't afford to try out 1.6 and it cuts off during gig.

For a PC, I would strongly discourage still using 1.4. I had nothing but problems with it. (I used 1.3 until 1.5 came out)
Flipsta 11:09 PM - 21 August, 2006
I never used 1.5 after seeing all the problems with it posted on here since 1.4 was fully stable for me. But 1.6 has worked great, dl it and just rename your 1.4 file so you have that version too.
Julls 11:12 PM - 21 August, 2006
I use 1.4 on PC with no problems. I don't think that I will upgrade for a long while. 1.4 works great for me with no drop outs or anything.

1.1 worked fine
1.2 worked fine
1.3 worked fine
1.4 worked fine
1.5 worked fine
1.6 worked fine
1.6.1 worked fine
1.6.2 PB 1/2 are working fine

(On a PC that is)

1.3 worked good for me 1.4 still works for me

i installed 1.5 had a crash at a gig and 1.6 did the same now with 1.6.2 beta i am thinking to update but i cant afford a crash. i play 4 nights in a row and dont have much time to test outside the club.

i also have a powerbook.

I'm on the same boat, using a PowerBook G4 and anything over 1.5 has either crashed or dropped out. Unfortunately, it crapped out during the couple's first dance. I just wanted to thank everyone who told me UPGRADE UPGRADE UPGRADE, because without you, this probably would not have happened. =/ So now I'm backing up all my music back onto CD's until serato makes a SOLID version like 1.4 for us retro cats b4 the intel takeover. Sorry to all the people that swear 1.6.2 is the greatest thing on earth, I'm just sticking to what works for me. If anyone has input, please share. Thanks. (P.S. I don't use "retro cats" in everyday talk)

ClubSessions....

I believe you're an idiot. Sorry for being blunt. But, it has been said MANY TIMES OVER to NEVER UPGRADE AND PLAY A GIG WITHOUT FIRST TESTING OVER AND OVER TO MAKE SURE THE VERSION YOU GOT IS WORKING PROPERLY.

1. Never upgrade before a gig.
2. Always test and test and test after un upgrade AND BEFORE A GIG.
3. If a version is solid, keep using that version. If you like new features of a new version. Upgrade. Test. Then play in public.

4.. AND PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE...

Did you know that you can have DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF SSL and run them whenever you want? Just rename them before installing a new one...

and last... I have an iBook (retro cat b4 intel) and I don't have any problems even with the newest versions.

Thank you. Have a good day.

Thanks for the reply sixx. I'm having a great day now.

Sorry ClubSessions... I really didn't mean to make you feel bad. I do apologize for that. But take the advice I've given for future reference. If you're on a pc or mac, ask around. Someone may have older versions for you to use.

Julls, Mike & Stuart,

Why not use 1.6?
digital_steve 6:38 AM - 20 December, 2006
I prefer to use later versions ... the vinyl tracking is much better in the 1.6 versions.

Rock on to those smashing 1.4, horses for courses ;)
sG 6:40 AM - 20 December, 2006
For some reasons the new versions run like crap on my PowerBook G4. 1.5 runs decently, but 1.6 lags a little bit, especially when I jump from one cue point to another. Don't know if its my settings or what not.

Theres nothing wrong with 1.4, maybe I'll give 1.6 a shot.
