b2b.sony.com
a review (non dj) www.news.com.au
anyone have any experience with this.
(my buddy, who does strip clubs & who lives off of ripping mtv HD videos off
his cable system btw)
swears by this thing....
granted his only application is grabbin HD videos, but he claims it records in 1080i
right to a dvd in real time....
{in the reviews it talks about the HD being limited by the hardware u use)
after talking this seemed like an AMAZING solution for those of us looking
to record sets ect ect ect
when u goto the sony page it looks pretty damn promising for under 200!!!
be sure to look at the 3 tabs
(features & specs mostly)

This recorder use to cost $500 back when they first hit the set.. I thought about buying it at one time but now not..... Besides what's the point in recording hd to a dvd if it's doesn't record in mpeg2(VOB's) it will not play on a dvd. It will be an mp4 persay and you would still have to edit it in order to get it to a dvd. Yet I am not for sure about this but it appears to be the case. They are not giving much info on this prodduct now nor then.
I still want to buy something from these guys store.archos.com noticed I went to the referb section.Downside not writing to blueray nor dvd yet it could work in conjuction with cable dvr.

I thought the major upgrade from the mc3 that it could record hd onto a playable
dvd, even blu-ray?
(but I think recording in HD might be linited to the "sony handycam" input.
we need to find someone who uses vsl who has hands on experience.

this recorder does not seem to have any "HD" inputs, although it claims to support HD. My guess is HD from Sony camcorders.

H.264 is ratified as a standard for Blu-ray disks. In other words, ALL Blu-ray players must be able to play H.264 encoded Blu-ray disks. This is the preferred format of Blu-ray material.
Standard definition DVD disks specified only a single standard for video encoding, and that's MPEG-II. Blu-ray specifies a total of 3 if I recall correctly.

yeah... thats kind of what I gathered too..
and from more reading it seems like that "sony hd handy cam" is the only way to get an HD
(theres no way to hoodwink it)
but I suppose if you have an extra 200 bucks and you want something to make video mixes for the internet/promotions it might not be a bad option.
most site only support so much anyways...
audio & video in 1 step.
Im on the fence, this might be a xmas present request or something...

Sorry, I guess I should have posted this too:
To take advantage of high-definiton (HD) recording, you'll need a Sony AVCHD camcorder. Furthermore, it only supports HDD and memory stick models;
In order to make a HD DVD, you'll need to supply a Sony memory stick with AVCHD footage on it.
You can't record a LIVE video input to HD in any way.

right, and not a live input. only from memory stick.
but seriously, if you find a portable recorder that record a live 1080p high def signal to ANYTHING for $200, you let me know.
i just bought a recorder and i paid $5k for it. and that was the cheapest one I could find, by about $25k.

Actually, after I bought my recorder the Aja Ki Pro was released and that's easily without a doubt the highest quality recorder you'll get for $4k.
