Which speakers do you use for mobile gigs?

Serato fam,

Which speakers are you currently rocking with?

Thanks.

First, I'd suggest this be moved to a more appropriate area of the Forum.

Second, the following is strictly an opinion based on the fact you have very few Posts, so I'm assuming you might be new to DJ'ing.

There are a lot of good speakers, so rather than recommending a brand, I'm going to recommend a "type", and that "type" is a pair of 10" or 12" tops, each mounted over a 15" or 18" sub. Period.

If you have a small vehicle, or weight is a consideration, go with the 10"/15" combo. If you have a large vehicle and are in good shape, go with the 12"/18" combo. That's it!

RCF Evox 8s
RCF Evox 12s

Yamaha dxr10 x2
Yamaha dxr8 x2
Cerwin Vega CVX18S x2
Yorkville ps12s

I use the 8s over the yorkville for small gigs and the 10s over 1-2 of the CVs for bigger gigs with the 8s as either monitors or sattelites/side fills.

EV Evolve 50s.. Love My EVs ❤️

RCF Evox 12 (my go to for most DJ events)
RCF HD10
RCF 705asii & 702asii
Yamaha DXR15 (for small or no sub allowed gigs or over the KW181 for larger events)
QSC K8 & K10
QSC KW181
Turbosound ip500 (for cocktails)

Hoping they make an 18” Evox, then i’d Sell the KW181, Evox 12 and 705asii.

For me, portability is very important. I tested out a few different speaker brands and found the best combination of good sound, price, and portability went to the EV ELX200 series.
I bought 4 x 15 inch tops (ELX200-15P) and 4 x 18 inch subs ELX200-18SP.
This system has allowed me to scale from small events of 50 people all the way up to over 300 easily.
musiclee 12:51 PM - 5 September, 2019
EAW 181. 18” sub on each side
EAW 12” tops, 1 on each side
The system pound enough for large hall 500 people
For outdoors you’d need at least 2 of these systems

I'm starting to run into more of these venues and my rig always requires a sub. I was thinking of picking up the DBR15s just for those gigs, but usually I don't find out about "no subs allowed" until I actually show up to the gig.

musiclee 12:41 AM - 6 September, 2019
i understand the "no subs" allowed
but i've actually NEVER heard of it
but makes sense as many venues have other parties/rooms, next to or below
and bass travels BIG TIME
Dj Youkai 3:18 AM - 6 September, 2019
I did one with no Subs Allowed.. I told the venue I cut off the sub on my Evolve 50s.. They said ok.. Still sounded awesome 😊

I now ask the venue if it’s one I haven’t already worked in just because of this. Burned on that a few times in the past. I’m sure the DBRs will be fine for those scenarios.

2 DXR10
2 DXS12

This rig is good up to about 300pp, and is scaleable down to a house party.

Im in an acoustic duo now and I’ve really been wanting a mini column array. I’d like to use it for house parties too for the dispersion. The L1 compact has my eye.

djhouse 11:54 AM - 7 September, 2019
The DZR15 tops are the best I’ve heard at the $$1200 price range (each). The lows are remarkable (33hz/wood cabinets) and highs are really clean and not ear piercing.

The 15” subs, you’ve got to listen to them, that’s all I’m gonna say. They are well built for sure.

Check them out

I’m looking to upgrade my QSC K10’s to the K10.2’s. Anyone using the K.2 series? Was thinking of 12’s but the 10’s have wider coverage.

That’s honestly more of a lateral move. There is not a huge improvement in the k.2 series from the originals.

Even though they are rated at 2000 watts peak compared to 1000?
dj_soo 5:28 PM - 9 September, 2019
those numbers are lies and the original Kseries speakers were also rated at 2000 watts peak (and were also lies).

Lol. It’s true but it’s funny to read it so bluntly. The irony is that something like a d&b audiotechnik box would be 400 watts and you’d run laps around all of these speakers with ED “efficiency disfunction” 🤪
dj_soo 9:11 PM - 9 September, 2019
I used to sugarcoat it, but it's all just used to fool ignorant buyers into thinking that wattage number has any bearing on loudness - especially when those numbers are basically lies.

You'll notice these ridiculous 4-figure wattage numbers go away when you get to actual professional level gear.

@desmorider; sorry about that typo, I have the 15" Yamaha DXS15XLF. I'm getting up there in age and have to travel light as I am and always have been a solo DJ, can't depend on so called friends to help come crunch time.

Whole rig is scalable x 3 for larger gigs.
NukeBox 4:15 AM - 27 November, 2019
2 Ev ELX 115
2 Cubo Subs

Ev is good for disco AND vocals. But you should be mindful about their highs and mid-highs.

QSC 18” subs. KW181
QSC 12” top, older birchwood models

These kicks some serious @ss.

2 bassboss dv12s
1 bassboss vs21subwoofer
Equals annoying the neighbors plus you can hear the bass from a block away gwad damn! Usually need at van to haul everything

Then for smaller gigs or rooms
I just go
2 bassboss dv12s in full range mode and one rcf 15 inch sub. Bass sounds like your running an 18 inch subwoofer with that combo. Every thing weighs 50 pounds each = 150 pounds split up into 50 pounds each plus all fits in the backseat or trunk of a Toyota Camry

The BassBoss stuff is really impressive! Depending on which DSP settings and version you have of the DV12s, they can be soooo good standalone!

The most impressive thing about the dv12s is that the dsp card installation is the same like how you swap out or upgrade memory in a computer. Basically you can take it out and send it to bassboss for reprogramming by there a computer.
Plus Bassboss has an a free update as of now for all owners of the dv12. all you just have to do is call them to send in your dsp card for the update

This question will result in every brand of speakers everyone who has speakers are the best in there opinion, best to go to guitar center or dj store and listen for yourself and check out youtube comparisons like QSC vs RCF done by DJ stores in youtube. A QSC k12.2 can be about $800 each so do your research.
dj_soo 4:06 AM - 19 December, 2019
? This is simply a thread detailing what people are using. No one said anything about “the best” speakers or even asked about buying advice.
577er 4:21 AM - 19 December, 2019
I like this thread. It’s informative and lets you know what people are actually using. No one is preaching speaker X.

The only thing I’d add is go somewhere with a better selection then Guitar Center. I find they are pretty limited in their gear on display.

Chuck Levin’s is my go to for listing to equipment in person. Find a small independent store like that near you where you can hear lots of brands and models for yourself.
