Serato DJ Pro General Discussion

Talk about Serato DJ Pro, expansion packs and supported hardware

Cheapest Serato mixer with cue buttons.

r3k0 3:41 PM - 11 December, 2018
Looking to get my girlfriend a Serato mixer, she is only starting out but has got used to using my Rane 62 and 72.
It wont need many of the functions of each of those mixers, just needs cue point buttons to start with.
What should i be looking for ???
New or Second hand not an issue.

Get a Traktor Z2.
It's fully mapable with scratch live and serato dj pro. It's really easy. The only thing is. It has no hardware fx. Just a filter knob that is working with analog vinyl as well with dvs.
But it's really cheap. Once I got mine in germany I only paid 390€s.
I think it's the same in the US

Thanks for reply mate.

Yer that was my 1st thought but i thought it was Traktor only?? and she is used to Serato now and wasn't to interested in a software change.

Also just seen the Mixars Duo and this looks equally as good but has official Serato included?

And both mixers are Serato FX only? but this is fine for what she wants.

Probably best for you is to look at the available Hardware for Serato?

Thanks mate, been through that list.

Think it is deffo the Z2 or the Duo.
Clubber1970 6:34 PM - 11 December, 2018
But the Z2 is not Serato compatible, isn‘t it?
Only works, with a SL2 or Denon Box as far as I unterstood.
r3k0 6:36 PM - 11 December, 2018
You can midi map it, looks easier than i was lead to believe tbh.

Yes, you can MIDI map it but you will still need a Serato interface like a SL2 or Denon Box to open up the software. A Z2 alone will not work with Serato.

He says in the comments of that video.

"If you want to use Serato DJ yes you will need a Serato box."

Mixars Duo is the cheapest according to your requirements... brand new

Z2 Will need another sound card e.g. Rane or Denon DS1

Cheapest? I've seen Akai AMXs go for $100-150 used.

You can re-map the buttons on a Akai AMX, but they're hard and clicky.

Plus...you need the DVS plug-in ($100), subscription ($10 a month), or the full Serato Suite to use it with turntables.

but...it would probably work,

Rane 72 or nothing.
DJ_X_Trodinaire 12:05 AM - 12 December, 2018
Just give her the 62, you keep the 72 Paid for already lol.

I was gonna suggest that as well.

Thanks guys!

Will probably be the Duo tbh, I saw the Akai and wondered but she can afford the Duo so prob best option.
DJ JulioYEG 6:23 AM - 13 December, 2018
mixars duo for sure
r3k0 9:18 AM - 13 December, 2018
Yup, we got one for £480. Not bad.

You can get Radkiarls' Mapping that expands the use of the Beat Buttons to FX Bank 2 and 3 and allows you to use the singe Wet/Dry rotary pot to control them all. The only thing is that the light does not stay on on the beat buttons to show it is activated so you might miss and not realize that the FX is activated and get Silence..However I have this mixer along with my S9 and it is very well built and the Analog cross fader is nice. Gives you something to think about compared to the midi faders of current mixers and well it's not post fader for FX but you can work around that as you go because the up faders are post fader.

Nice 1 pal, thanks for the info 👍
She is proper novice atm so just getting her to use FX, but all good info.

Yep anything from Mixars is made for the "proper novice" scene!

Well had a few plays with the Duo2 and for the money and what my Mrs needs it perfect.

BUT, I'm guessing there's no way the FX can be post fader via the Xfader??? cos this sucks for me after being used to the 62 and 72.

Nope, fader is completely Analog, however, the upfaders can do post fader so you can start teaching her that as well.
r3k0 1:19 PM - 21 December, 2018
Yer she will be fine with that as she never really used FX on my Ranes, so easy enough for her to start learning the channel fader technique.
I keep killing it with Xfader though .... need to concentrate more ;-)

Trust me I feel your pain as my other rig is an S9. lol

But I just couldn't sty away from that Z2/SL3 workflow i had before and used to enjoy. Just got to remember to keep that fader a tad bit open for the tail out on the FX or it sounds like crap and you get that "DOH!" response. lol
r3k0 3:25 PM - 21 December, 2018
Haha, idd,had a couple of beers last night which = DOH! a few times :-D

Ewww, an S9? Ya I'm definitely feeling your pain.

I do enjoy the mixer even though it has it's shortcomings but I can live with it as well as the difference in response to a midi vs a analog fader. It's built stong and doesn't sound half as bad as it could have ended up. I mean it isn't Rane sound but it sure as hell ain't like a real Crappola sound quality.
Gio Alex 7:52 PM - 21 December, 2018
Mixars Duo is the least expensive serato built in mixer.

The absolute cheapest would be the Akai AMX but it is super limited in terms of ins/outs.
