How does streaming music service work?

Dunder Mifflin 5:14 PM - 20 August, 2018
Currently, I purchase all music through iTunes and use a hotspot when DJing in case I need to download a song not already in my library. I am interested in using some sort of service that I have access to some enormous music library so that I am not constantly downloading music before a wedding/prom/etc. Also, how does the music service work if you have no wifi connection? I get booked in places quite often that have little or no connectivity.

Any input would be awesome!

Serato had pulselocker music streaming service for a minute. The company went belly up along with people's playlist.

Just subscribe to a DJ Pool in addition to your current method of getting music.

I will not trust an "streaming service" to DJ live with, though Pulselocker allowed offline use but those tracks vanished aswell

Serato does not have any streaming service currently.
Dunder Mifflin 6:03 PM - 20 August, 2018
So how do you use any of these tracks if there is no wifi? With my iTunes, it is saved on my computer, but where are the tracks from a DJ pool located to pull from?
popnwave 6:30 PM - 20 August, 2018
You need to download the material ahead of time. Don't bet on in demand material when you're at a gig. It's fine once in a while, but you are playing with fire relying on stuff you do not have in a local library.

We run two rigs. Sounds odd, but bare with me. My buddy's rig runs DJay2 on his WeeGo and we are able to pull in spotify playlists using that. I am currently making the shift from Virtual Dj (yeah, I get it.. .no real DJ uses Virtual DJ... whatever)...and have been using the streaming service they provide. It had been decent, but now its just a waste of $10/month. I'd say that 90% of what we normally play is off a drive, and the rest streamed as requests. Once a request is made, we will go back and download it to keep it on our laptops for offline use. In summary, streaming allows us to play requests that we had not come prepared to play or to move the genre outside of what the client had discussed with us prior to the event. It is never the backbone of what we do.

That's fine, and even I keep a list of stuff people request that I managed to not bring and grab it after the fact. You won't see me hating on VDJ (it does video best on PCs) nor a super portable setup using DJay2 because sometimes you want to do a gig and you don't need a giant rig.

I just think people either 1) can't wrap their head around the idea that if the don't have EVERYTHING all the time the world will end and 2) streaming is great in some situations but not all.

Hi people. I'm not a user of serato but I really would like to be.
I work in a very touristic zone and it's really hard to have all the music needed.
We receive tourism from spain, france, uk, and so on.
Right now, I use another DVS software to keep using vinyl that I love and I use djay pro with streaming service.
But I would easily change both of them for serato or another DVS that would have a good streaming service like spotify.
Clubber1970 5:18 AM - 8 October, 2018
Sorry, streaming service is not possible with Serato DJ.

Stick with DJay Pro if you need Spotify.

No make sure to get Serato, and then bring along the cellular enabled iPad with Algoriddim DJ on your Aux channel. It's a must have on every gig.

Streaming is about to get more expensive, at least in the US -

Maybe this will finally give Artists incentive to start producing good music again.

If Spotify raises its costs, I'm done. And so is my entire DJ career. I will happily sack it for a loss.

Just DJ'ing for fun is so much better.

According to the videos below, music streaming from Tidal and SoundCloud is available in Serato DJ Pro and Serato DJ Lite. Yesterday, I downloaded DJ Pro and DJ Lite. But I did not get the music streaming option box in Settings > Library + Display tab. Has anyone figured this out?

I love the idea of freestyling with Tidal and Soundclouds music catalog at my fingertip. Whether it's for practice or for real. There's wifi everywhere. If no wifi, my laptop hotspots perfectly with my unlimited mobile data plan with Verizon.

See Tidal and SoundCloud music streaming in serato below:

Check out these videos to see how it works. Note that these services are still in a testing phase. So you should not be using them in a live performance situation.

Did you go into Settings > Library + Display? Do you see the "music streaming" option to sign into Tidal or SoundCloud? Try rebooting your computer. Note that if you have the Serato DJ Pro app (the non beta version) you need to rename the folder (JUST THE FOLDER NAME). That's what I did and it worked for me. Heres the message I got from Serato when I had this problem. You have to put on your reading glasses. Read everything follow the directions carefully. Let me know if it works.

Hi there,

Thank you for getting in touch.

As this is currently in BETA you will need to visit the BETA section of our website to download the Soundcloud and TIDAL builds.

You can find the downloads on our website in the link below: serato.com

Please make sure you follow the instructions carefully before installing the BETA.

Please also note that we do not recommend that you use the BETA build in a live performance environment.

Let me know if you have any further queries.

How do I stream music from Tidal and Soundcloud into Serato? See how he is doing it in the link below... I first tried streaming them in Serato DJ Lite but I did not have the "Music Streaming" option appear at all in Settings > Library + Display in DJ Lite. So I figured that maybe it was only available in Serato DJ Pro so I downloaded DJ Pro and Subscribed to it and the "Music Streaming" option STILL did not appear in Settings > Library + Display in Serato DJ Pro either. So I have a few questions;

1.) Can I stream music from Tidal and Souncloud in DJ Lite? If yes, how do I do it? Because I would rather stream music from Tidal and Soundcloud using DJ Lite because I dont have to pay a subscription for DJ Lite. Additionally, I need to know what I'm not doing right. Why isnt "Music Streaming" showing up in my Settings > Library + Display screen?

If I cant stream music from Tidal and Soundcloud in DJ Lite...

2.) Can I stream music from Tidal and Souncloud in DJ Pro? If yes, how do I do it? I need to know what I'm not doing right. Why isnt "Music Streaming" showing up in my Settings > Library + Display screen in DJ Pro?

Thank you so much for your tips!
ok so I changed the folder name. also copied it to another folder.
I'm currently on version 2.0.5, is this correct? as on the website the beta version is mentioned on 1.95.
So when I try to click on the link to download 1.95, I get the notification "Access Denied". ( with and without VPN ) which version is the correct one?

i have also downloaded tidal again.

So not sure what is going wrong.

2.1.x is the beta so, no you aren't on the right version. It's not on the main download page, the links are in a post in the beta forum.

You're renaming your existing Serato DJ Pro folder, correct? Your NON-BETA version? Because that's what I meant. You do not have to rename the Beta version. Only the non-beta version.

Follow these steps from the Serato Dj Pro 2.1 Public Beta area (link below)

serato.com

Under "Sticky And Compulsory Discussions" click on "Downloads and Release Notes by Scott S".

Under the bold "Download" header, there's a link to download Beta 2.1.0.723 for "Mac" or "Windows". Before you re-download it, it's probably a good idea to uninstall 1.95 or whatever Beta version you did download. Because thats the wrong version.

Once you re-download it (version 2.1.0.723), open it up to see if you now see the music streaming option in your Settings > Library + Display. If not, shut down your computer, turn it back on, and go back in and see if it comes up then. It should. Because that's exactly what happened to me. I didnt see it when I first downloaded it. But once I renamed my existing DJ Pro version folder (the non beta version) AND shut my computer off and on, and went back in, it appeared.

It's also a good idea to read all the threads/forums under "Sticky And Compulsory Discussions" AND all the threads/forums under "Normal Discussions". They are very helpful. You might find the issue you are having, and how to fix it, in one of the threads IF it still doesn't work. Because mine started working, and continues to work, I didnt have to read any threads/forums past "Sticky And Compulsory Discussions". If I do have issues in the future, I will read the threads/forums" under "Normal Discussions".

Good luck. Let me know what happens. If this doesn't, you'll need to get Serato Support to help you with this. That's how it worked out for me. Let me know how it goes!

When there is no wifi or cellular connection, you can only listen to music from the streaming service in advance. The downloaded music is likely to expire when your subscription is over.
But for the streaming services like SoundCloud that doesn't allow you to download the music, you can only use third-party software. For such purpose, Joyoshare Audio Recorder is a good choice. High sound quality, wide range of formats to choose from, audio editing.
