What do you wear when you DJ?

DJ Benny B NYC 2:31 PM - 9 July, 2009
I don't wear collared shirts as much as I did because the headphones ruin the collar
CMOS 4:42 PM - 9 July, 2009
Ed Hardy Speedo, Jordans, Fitted Blue Yankee.
j_weezer 4:46 PM - 9 July, 2009
Depends on the venue, I suppose. But I feel you on the headphones vs. collared shirts thing.
DTweed 5:28 PM - 9 July, 2009
Usually Jeans, Tee and sneakers I think thats the typically DJ wear.

CMOS - your fitted Yankee dont get in the way with your headphones?
DJJOHNNYM_vSL3 5:31 PM - 9 July, 2009
Black mid-short sleeve shirt.
DJBoZak 5:50 PM - 9 July, 2009
Khakis, Wife Beater and Chuck Taylor's
sixxx 5:52 PM - 9 July, 2009
Depends on the venue and the weather. If it's hot (and it gets really hot here in Cali) and I'm DJing outside, I will wear shorts.

I once DJ'ed an outdoor wedding in 112+ weather. I almost passed out. hahaha
sacrilicious 5:52 PM - 9 July, 2009

Logisticalstyles 12:56 PM - 10 July, 2009
Depends on the location. I play at this one club where the booth is very secluded. It's usually just me and the occaisional waitstaff dropping in for a smoke break. There, I wear whatever. When it's a spot where I'm openly accesible to the crowd I try to look decent. I usually wear what I would expect the customers to wear. Formal gigs get a suit, and I'm thinking about getting a tux if I start to do more weddings.

dj shadow from detroit 4:52 PM - 10 July, 2009
to be honest it does depend on the venue.if im at a spot where people are eating and the vibe is older.im dressing for that occasion.if its a college club.im wearing a polo shirt with shorts or pants with a hat.

i feel that a dj should dress to the venue.trust the owner pays attention to everything." he should" lol!

caught a last minute gig at a club that i was not told was a all white affair ( as in clothes not people. lol) had on fitted jeans dunks and a ill graphic tee. no white on and got called out by the person who the party was for and in several pictures of the event i was in. so yeah what the dj wears is looked at but..... when u look at pics of big djs in clubs they usualy just have on a a tshirt and jeans . thats the norm.

if its a upscale spot tho i throw on some pradas and a button down or polo and fitted (not skinny or tight) jeans. or sometimes just a black v neck t and jeans wit some black acg's or black uptowns. keep it simple.

Glasses, Cool T-shirt (or long sleeve tee if its cold), hoodie jacket(zip-able),skinny jeans and cool trainers! (My recommended trainers are those black Vans trainers with red LED shoelaces). To top off, cool headphones!

If you want, (for turntable DVS DJs) throw on some colored vinyl on your turntables when you do your set, it looks cool!!!!!!

DJ Matty Stiles 12:52 PM - 1 January, 2018
it really depends on where you are, your city and even your country. For example the collared shirt rule in Australia is non existent. You can get away with wearing fresh kicks and a nice t shirt, as long as youre clean and presentable. Its a lot more casual here. We're not exactly hawaians but we're definately more laid back

For formal and corporate shows, we recommend coming dressed as if you were a guest. For example, if a suit is required of guests, the least you should have on is a suit as well. In other words, don’t come in khakis and a button down polo – dress up to meet the requirement.
