Rane 72, Serato relase

Jackas 11:29 AM - 25 March, 2018
Hi!
Do you know when serato will release version for 72 Rane mixer. I'm asking because I wrote to Rane Dj and they told me that 72 will be available on the market when serato releases it.
popnwave 5:11 PM - 25 March, 2018
Street date is next week I think, I am sure we will get a 2.0.x update like we did for the Pioneer controller that came out.
popnwave 5:12 PM - 25 March, 2018
And no Serato doesn't control the hardware release date, lol.

And 4/4/18 is the day the 72/Twelves come out now.

Where did you hear that? Rane are not replying to emails, messages or anything else I've tried. Terrible way to treat customers.

I wrote them on Facebook to the official site. They told that they don't know the date of releasing and it all depends on serato. And I'm quite angry because at first release date was 10.02.2018, now it's 11.04 at guitarcenter.com

Yes, it's ridiculous. If they just publically said, it's going to be a coupl eof months while we iron out some bugs or we are waiting for serato and it'll be ready in May, even that would be better than the silence and them showing other people using it! It had better be good after all this!

Just got my retailer to ring inmusic, they have said that it is now pushed back to mid/late April-ish.

Wonder if the rollout is region specific? It wouldn't be the first time the UK/EU/US/Asia wen't in step with each other due to supply chain logistics.
Dave-M 4:03 PM - 27 March, 2018
It could be, but it's not looking good when they can't even give a ballpark figure!

This is why it's not good to be an early adopter folks, wouldn't surprise me if there are some updates left to iron out. My 2c, let everyone else cop on release date. No need to rush out and get these things unless you just have money to burn.

I've almost convinced myself of waiting for a Twelve Mk2 version to come out, the refresh's of dj gear historically are simply more refined when they revisit it a 2nd time. Plus they can react to all of the DJ feedback on the 1st versions to improve the hardware. For ex, the entire concept of having to drill holes into your vinyl if you want to change it on the Twelve is rather weak. How many people you gonna see drilling holes into Serato white's or gold's? That alone needs to be re-engineered imo. For 62 owners already, upgrading to the 72 is not really worth it (dollar for dollar).

As far as release dates, 4.4.18 (like the 62 which I pre-ordered, some got it on release date, some a week later, expect the same here).
popnwave 4:35 PM - 27 March, 2018
I still want the whole setup, but I am happy with my working rig and will wait for later in the year because of early adopter headaches.

wonder if the 72 will be like a over hyped shoe release, in that, if only 500-1000 ship, whats the world market for those 500-1000 72's? (i dont know shipping numbers, just using as an example, but i figure it could initially be much less)

20-40-50% over msrp?

i'd think at least 20% for a few months

My 72 is confirmed to be coming in on Friday, it is shipping Wednesday. Guitar Center blows and screwed Rane over on this release. That's why I cancelled my pre order with Guitar Center and went with AGI Pro DJ.

It's definitely a good reason to hold off on buying until there are enough reviews out there. For something so expensive, I'd wait and see. I did the same with the S9 - bought it a year after its release. It could be the best mixer ever but it could also face the same problems a lot of InMusic products do.

Sales & Marketing has always been Pioneer's strength.

If inMusic Brand's intention/goal is to give Pioneer a run for their money, then inMusic needs to step their marketing game WAAAAAAAAAAAY UP!

Perception & optics is EXTREMELY important in sales/marketing!! It is almost as important as having a quality product that works as advertised.

I agree, the 72/12 marketing campaign has been shit and that’s being polite. That said, it has been the product (72) that’s Been keeping me interested and lack of decent alternatives.

The 72 needs to be good right out of the box, the entire Rane brand is at stake, and they know it, so that is kinda giving me a bit of hope that they’ve nailed it.

You can put on the front and have people gobble it up.

I'll take substance over style any day, if Pioneer wants to showcase their speakers and one controller, let them do so. Has nothing to do with product quality these day.

Dude in the clip even said the mixer crashed during NAMM. I hope it’s ready for the masses. As shitty as Pioneer can be I’ve rarely heard of a crash.
Rebelguy 10:36 PM - 3 April, 2018
One thing people aren’t considering or maybe don’t know...it costs a shit ton of money to have a large prime location booth at NAMM. A booth like Pioneers is easily in the 6 figures cost. Maybe Rane/InMusic didn’t want to blow their whole marketing budget at this show.

Maybe the location was due to them not being sure if the product was going to be ready and having to accept what was available. The rumor I had heard last November was the the 72 software was still at an alpha stage of development and they were only going to be showing it at a private site via invite only. They pulled it together by there were still a lot of crashes at the show.
Aptidda 10:50 PM - 3 April, 2018
yes, hence the absurd delay. Glad to see that they finally have the software stable enough to release tomorrow. Wouldn't want my setup to crash and send the elephants, lions, tigers, and zebras into a stampede at one of my shows.

^^^ This is what concerns me! The legacy Rane company would never rush a product just to show it at NAMM. Legacy Rane would wait until the product is stable and completely ready for primetime gig use.

I really want to buy the Rane 72 as soon as it is released BUT my better judgement tells me to wait 6 months to a year : (

its much more than that. It's a Rane, not some plastic POS Pioneer S9. I can attest, I threw my S9 into the dumpster because its a piece of garbage and it belongs in the trash amongst my banana peels and spit out sunflower seed shells.

A mixer that lists for $1899 should NOT crash!! The hardware/software integration needs to be FLAWLESS for that price point!!!

That is the pioneer fanboy channel. Nothing positive is said about Rane there. If that mixer was released and doing that, then he would have a valid point, but he’s hysterical about a product that wasn’t even released at the time of filming, that was running beta software.

I’d wait and see what actual owners make of it. It could be shit, but at least you’ll hear it first hand from people that know!

I mastered that inferior piece of plastic junk (Pioneer S9).

Some things I hate about the S9 that will NOT BE MISSED: Cheap ass paintjob on the unit and fader caps. Not being able to use dual pad mode on decks one and two (Rane 72 has dual pad mode), the S9's terribly crappy up fader cut in times, the overall plastic POS feeling of the unit, the janky feeling track selector knob, the janky plastic FX knob that came hella loose over time, the annoying "fader adjust feeling" little plastic pieces of crap under the hood on the Magvel Fader "Pro" that would just fall out and get lost inside the mixer, the hold time and crap support of Pioneer.

I hope some seagull is taking a crap ontop of my old S9 mixer right now as it sits atop a stinking Bay Area trash heap where it truly is at home where is belongs.

IMHO, it's just another feature available just like the SYNC button. Choice is all well & good BUT….

If I'm truly being honest with myself then I'm concerned about where the DJ industry is headed. What I mean by that is if there even will be a need for DJs within 10 years time?

Some say that the most important DJ skill is song selection aka 'Reading the Crowd'. That is an important skill for a DJ to have but there are also MANY other skills needed to be a successful DJ. The fundamental skills like mixing by ear, cutting, scratching, blending etc. are just as important! Another aspect of DJing that is also neglected by many is the business part(marketing, advertising, networking, contracts, customer relations etc.)

Overall, having access to lots of features is great but that shouldn't take the place of the basic skills needed to DJ. I'm very fortunate to have started DJing during a time when there was no SYNC button, or beat grid. Effects were used sparingly- (not as a crutch or replacement for skills).

Are all these new features the death of the current state of DJing? Is DJing evolving into a more live production oriented medium? Please feel free to comment.

I do love my 1200s MKIIs but I do NOT miss lugging them around to gigs. I'm primarily a mobile DJ so having a light weight portable controller is a blessing!!

The funny thing now is that I'm considering going back full circle once Phase is released : )

Well said my friend....... You hit the nail on the head. Everything is getting watered down and sadly it won't change for the better because lots of money is being made. It's unfortunate but it's a similar situation with music production. The recording quality of a lot of music being made now is simply unacceptable. Some original files are so distorted. We pay lots of money for "big" name brand equipment and features is given precedence over sound quality.

@ Dave-M - Does the 72 have any vents on the bottom of the mixer? I've noticed that the 72 doesn't have any vents on the sides.

My Rane 62 has vents on the sides & bottom which helps to dissipate the heat. I'm wondering how heat dispersion is handled by the 72? The last thing I need is for the mixer to overheat mid gig.

I guess I could always try to remove the metal side panels & drill holes in them for vents.

Loving the mixer so far. The pad layout leaves a little to be desired but custom midi mapping should solve that. Y default you have to reach up top and double tap a knob or instant doubles. Would be nice if there was a button near the fader that had it.

Thats one of the main reasons I skipped the 60 series. And I am kinda comfortable waiting out the 72.

Its sad they don't recognize the instant double technique.
dj_soo 10:57 PM - 8 April, 2018
double tapping the track scroll knob is how the instant doubles works on the 62 as well.

it's just the placement of hte knobs that differ from the 57 mk2
djaction 12:22 AM - 9 April, 2018
On the 57 you can program one of the buttons near the upfaders for instant doubles. I'll be doing the same with the pads on the 72 via custom midi mapping.

Having to go to the top of the mixer and double tap a knob is absurd considering how long the 72 is and double tapping a knob isn't very fluid
AKIEM 1:14 AM - 9 April, 2018

Does the Rane 72 have BPM Auto Detect for analogue sources connected via RCA/Phono input

if I'm playing music from USB (SC5000/CDJ) or Vinyl , does the hardware FX engine auto calculate the BPM/Tempo of the song.

I ended up repurchasing another S9 this past Saturday when at the time the store had one 72 in stock and the rep was tempting me to purchase it instead. I had my eye on it since it’s announcement last year, and quite frankly I wanted that screen. I paced around the store for a good hour or so weighing out my options, but ended up walking out with the S9.

My deciding most important factor was versatility. I’m heavily vested in both RB DJ and Serato and majority of my gear are compatible with both softwares. Now if I were strictly in Serato’s camp, I wouldn’t have hesitated jumping on that 72. I love options and choices and my goal have always been not to tie myself into one ecosystem.

poor choice
thorissr 5:33 PM - 9 April, 2018
Oh believe me Inmusic will continue to sell them for the foreseeable future, and I may have a change in mind depending on the evolution of Serato DJ Pro. My point was more less that I made a purchase choice based on my needs opposed to my wants. :) Money isn’t nor wasn’t an issue, but I can honestly say that for the first time I made a wise choice based on simple logical thinking. The S9 is still a beast of a mixer and serves my needs immensely, and other than my coveted envy for the screen on the 72 I didn’t see an immediate benefit that it would bring me for a $500 difference of what I paid for the S9 versus the price of the 72. Plus I’ve leaned more to the RB DJ side lately since their 5.1 release and don’t want to invest $2000 in hardware that’s not compatible with my preferred choice of software. I’ve been the biggest Serato supporter for well over 7 years, but since 2.0b I slowly migrated to RB DJ. I mostly use DVS and I’m sad to say that IMHO it has surpassed Serato in that area.

I’ve learned from my past error when I purchased that new shiny object, the DDJ RZX. It really didn’t bring much to my style of play and it came at a $3000 price tag. It has literally been sitting in its box untouched after owning it for a month. I’ve been trying to sell it and haven’t received one bite since I’ve listed it. I’m afraid that if were to purchase the 72 it would see the same fate, but I’m pretty sure it would sell much quicker that my RZX...lol

yea, I know about pitch play, but I'm talking about dedicated pitch shifting without having to recue the track.

On my DJ 505, you it's there, but you have to go to pitch play (hit the sampler button twice), and then still use the shift and parameter buttons to shift pitch which is a pain.

Being able to easily access the pitch shifting is a bit part of my workflow - currently have it mapped to some knobs on my 62.

Sure you threw it in the trash.

Actually I sold it 4 months ago, when it still had some sort of resale value (wow this guy is smart ;-) . I have seen S9's on Craigslist for $600 now, broke boys GO!

I sold my s9 last week for $950. I had it listed for sale for like 8 months. No one wanted to pay for it.

LMAO. $850 That's hilarious. You must have had a damaged faceplate or tons of abuse. You could have done better selling it on Steal-Bay and PayPal (aka let me hold your money)
There is one lucky SOB out there right now.Why on earth you would sell something that retails for $1,699 for $850 is beyond me but hey...rock on.

I don't know if this was directed at me or not, but if so this is my response. The s9 that I sold for $950 was in perfect shape, and the deal was cash and carry, face to face, no bullshit. Who wants to deal with Ebay and Paypal. They don't protect the seller. Send the mixer to some scammer saying I sent them a box of rocks, and I'm ass out, no mixer, no loot.

another complaint about the 72.. the HP/LPF knob is in an awful location. It's directly below the bass knob. I found myself constantly attempting to kill the bass while mixing only to end up killing the entire track.

coolorcaps.com
I buy knobs from these guys. Much nicer than Chroma caps. They have XL filter knobs which make it easy to distinguish what knobs are filters and not EQs.

just a heads up and HUGE WARNING:

DO NOT GO TO www.coolorcaps.com

the owners of the site use a JSMiner script in the background to hijack your computers cpu for mining bitcoin. foul as shit. had no idea when I went on mobile.. went on my desktop and Symantec popped up with a warning and shut that shit down.

For some odd reason thought you said $850. $950 is still kinda low but reasonable if trying to just unload. I think the main reason folks don't want used S9's is due to all the bad units floating around. Faceplate,Power Supplies,Crossfaders.... Took me three tries to get a fully functional S9 new lol. Pioneer has zero self respect for their DJ Brand. Just push as many units as possible. Anyway back to Rane 72 I look forward to the reviews. Hopefully they have a better landing then the S9 debut.

not a typo.. it's a legit site that sells caps.. they just however produce side revenue by hijacking your PC to mine bitcoins.. a LOT of semi reputable sites are doing this
popnwave 4:07 PM - 10 April, 2018
Wonder if they realize their site is doing it, or if it was maliciously put there. That's enough to make me avoid them no matter what they are selling (I thought it a typo or colorcaps, but I see it isn't).

That’s odd i have ordered from them and I’m on Mac however Malware/Spyware can come from any website and maybe your anti-virus flagged it as a false positive. Regardless Windows updates or browser security should protect you. I highly doubt they are doing it on purpose.

$279 for the Twelve case? Sheesh, all I did was add a little extra foam to my 1200 cases.

Agreed. They are really taking advantage of the 72's popularity. This is not even a Black Label series nor with a sliding top for laptop. GRRRRRRRRRR

It's on eBay but in all honesty if someone walked up to me with 700 cash I'd consider taking it for a quick sale.

Today, I just sold my 62 for $950 including shipping. So now I just have to come up with a little less than a grand for the 72. IMHO, only having to come up with a grand for the 72 is a good deal.

I checked the major retailers but everywhere is back ordered until late April- mid May.

Anyone have any suggestions as to which retailer in the U.S. has the best price + fastest shipping once in stock?

I tried the part exchange route, was only offered 450 pound for the 62 with my retailer of choice in the UK. I did goof by initially offering my S9 (they valued it at 950 GBP) guessing they prefer that.

I have listed the 62 on the local buy & sell site.

IMO Rane stuff isn't a big deal in UK/Europe unlike the US. I don't think i've ever walked into a venue and they had any Rane stuff as the house gear, a handful of clubs will have an SL1 box connected to a Pioneer mixer, end off!

Pioneer has the entire continent on lock down.

Anyone in the DC area? I need the 72 now and can't find any in stock at any GC's, called all of them. Will order if online retailers have them, but I need something because my 62 is sold and I'm stuck using vinyl till I can cop.

hmmm sold out everywhere eh? Ya guys, the 72 release was a flop right? Pioneer does such a better job of marketing and advertising right? LOL.

Why does everyone keep making comparisons? Can we knock it off already christ. Especially this Tecniq guy, every post you make is somewhat negative about the 72 and your pro djm comments is nauseating to say the least.

Anyhow, I just ordered one off amazon from rane directly. Anyone have experience ordering from them directly?
The Return of Dj Sparky 3:51 PM - 13 April, 2018
You can be sure there was 10x more stick of the s9 when it released compared to the 72,

Hell they still have the 72 in stock here and I doubt they got many units, so what does that say for demand here?

this whole thing is pretty pathetic. grown men trying to out-smug each other hoping a large company will fail in favour of another large company.

Why is it so important to some of you what others decide to buy?
