M3U to Serato Crate Converter

Dr_Snuggles70 2:16 PM - 9 July, 2017

Here in English (from Google ;-) )

Hello you crazy guys. I have written a small program for Windows which converts M3U files to Serato Crates.

The program is in a very early status (beta version). For me it worked so far perfectly. Now I would like to make it available to you.

I promise it is not a virus or Trojana, or any malicious software :-).

I accept no guarantee, liability or similar for direct or indirect damages of any kind. The use is on your own responsibility.

there is really no need for this. if you drag a m3u file into serato into crate panel it turns it into a crate
alec.tron 9:33 PM - 9 July, 2017
Unless it can convert more than 1...?
And names it correctly (as the m3u file) ?
plus can keep a hierarchy structure....?
All of which Serato can/does not do, neither SSL nor SDJ and I would be curious to try this.

@ Telony Ex
Unfortunately I was not aware of this possibility. :-(

@alec.tron
Theoretically it is possible to process several M3U files one at a time. From the M3U file name, the Serato crate name.
House.m3u -> House.crate.

M3U has only one level according to the specification.

Nevermind, I would have been after something that converts large folder structures (100s...) of folders & m3us into nested crates...

So a folder/file structure along the lines of this:
/genres/
...genreA.m3u
... ...
...genreX.m3u
/playlists/
.../locationA/
......A_playlistA.m3u
...... ...
......A_playlistX.m3u
.../locationB/
......B_playlistA.m3u
...... ...
......B_playlistX.m3u

Converts into the same structure in form of nested crates in SDJ with the same names...
Was worth a try ;)

Basically this is possible.
I would use an XML structure.

<Crate> Genre1.m3u </ crate>
<Crate> Genre2.m3u </ ctate> <subcrate> Playlist1.m3u </ subcrate>
<SUBCRATE> Playlist2.m3u </ SUBCRATE>
<Crate> Genre3.m3u </ ctate> <subcrate> Playlist1.m3u </ subcrate>
<SUBCRATE> Playlist2.m3u </ SUBCRATE>

This can also easily be displayed in a tree structure.

I will try this time, but need some time for it.

But is it really needed?
The crates can be structured very quickly.

<Root Folder>
<Folder: Genre1>
<File:All of Genre1.m3u>
<SubFolder: Playlist>
<File:Best of Genre 1.m3u>
<File:Good of Genre 1.m3u>
<File:Rest of Genre 1.m3u>
<Folder: Genre2>
<File:All of Genre2.m3u>
<SubFolder: Playlist>
<File:Best of Genre 2.m3u>
<File:Good of Genre 2.m3u>
<File:Rest of Genre 2.m3u>

Seems to me like there'd be more use for this if it worked the other way around. i.e. convert Serato crates to M3U files. Currently, the only way you can export to playlists is via the history panel. You can export your session as a playlist, but not a crate. Which sucks.
alec.tron 11:10 AM - 10 July, 2017
I hear you Marv...!
But, I stopped storing anything in Serato (or Traktor, or RB for that matter, they each have their own gigantic share of weaknesses & bad library workflows, and whatever supports multi-value metadata first, [or if Rekordbuddy for windows comes around finally] I might jump onto one of them more seriously again & store data in the software - as is, I just feed all of them a self built itunes xml which holds flacs and dynamically updates via folder monitoring and holds 100s of playlists... which has its' own set of problems/issues)... :D
Now my problem with serato is is how to get my automatically generated playlists into serato the fastest (and regularly so... i.e. every 1-2 weeks... which is why creating & parenting crates by hand is not an option... there's just too many, and it's not only once....) as the very large itunes xml I have is a pain in the arse as well, which is why I'm still looking for options to build crates quickly, and why thus could be intersting to me).

Hallo zusammen,

Track1 -> Comment: Partyfox_S3,Schlager_S5,Karneval_S4

Smart-Crates-Baum

Partyfox
Partyfox_S3 = Regel = enhält Partyfox_S3
Partyfox_S4 = Regel = enhält Partyfox_S4
Partyfox_S5 = Regel = enhält Partyfox_S5

Karneval
Karneval_S3 = Regel = enhält Karneval_S3
Karneval_S4 = Regel = enhält Karneval_S4
Karneval_S5 = Regel = enhält Karneval_S5

Beispiel:
Partyfox_S4 -> Partyfox_S5

Partyfox_S4 -> Partyfox_S4 + Karneval_S5

Have more Fun

Von Google Translate :-)
Hello everybody,
I've considered the following and already tested.

I use the Smart Crates for filtering.

In the comment section of the MP3, I deposit Filteratribute.

For example:

Track1 -> Comment: Partyfox_S3, Schlager_S5, Karneval_S4

Now I create different "smart crates" with corresponding rules.

That it "S" stands for stars. 1S = 1Stern -> 5S = 5 stars, the higher the better the track for the category.
Explains itself belief :-)

Smart Crates Tree

Partyfox
Partyfox_S3 = Rule = contains Partyfox_S3
Partyfox_S4 = Rule = contains Partyfox_S4
Partyfox_S5 = Rule = contains Partyfox_S5

carnival
Carnival_S3 = Rule = contains Carnival_S3
Carnival_S4 = Rule = contains Carnival_S4
Carnival_S5 = Rule = contains Carnival_S5

The big advantage is that when I change a track comment in Serato, the track is immediately sorted again.

Example:
Partyfox_S4 -> Partyfox_S5

The track disappears immediately from Box_S4 and appears in Box_S5

Just like when I add an attribute.
Partyfox_S4 -> Partyfox_S4 + Carnival_S5

Have more fun
