Beware Intel Speedstep (Audio Dropouts)

No this isn't a new genre of electronic music but a bios setting that dynamically alters the clock speed of your CPU when idle to conserve power and to reduce heat output. Took me about an hour this morning to work out why my shiny new laptop was dropping audio.

Worth checking if you're having dropout issues, which it seems that a few people are.

FYI my CPU is an Intel 4710HQ.

I know I'm three years late to thank you for this post - but I also have dropouts on a brand new 8th Gen i5...and this might be the reason. Will disabe the setting. Thanks again.
