Stacked mode is easily the best mode in terms of size, waveform display and utility. Except in SDJ it's totally gimped by not having the "icicles" which in a situation where the monitoring isn't idea (which is unfortunately quite a lot), it can make a huge difference!

It was in SSL and it was great, but it's disappeared in SDJ for no reason I can discern. Is there a reason? Will it come back?

As far as I'm concerned SDJ is almost back up to (and exceeds in some areas) the functionality of SSL. But there are still a couple of issues left!
