Dupont Teflon Multi-use Lubricant in Europe?

Kalle2 11:42 AM - 20 May, 2014
Trying to find this, as recommended by Rane, to buy somewhere in Europe, preferably in Sweden. It seems impossible. Amazon.com sellers wont sell outside the US, and the few available in amazon.co.uk wants 75£ for one bottle.

I cant be the only one in europe needing to clean my fader? Is there some other solution I'm missing?

Thanks!
boabmatic 12:55 PM - 20 May, 2014
could find it either for shipping to the UK.

still using the cailube 100% that they previously recommended.

had another look and found some sites that are saying the Finish Line product range is the same as DuPont except aimed at the push bike market.

www.advrider.com
The Finish Line brand is the Dupont's Dry Wax lube packaged for the pushbike market. Available in 60ml ($12) and 120ml ($20) packages - cheap as in my book. I ordered a heap and they called me Monday to say that the 120ml would be in stock today (Wednesday) and would ship then, good service I thought.

so not sure if this is the same stuff which is available in the UK/Europe.
www.amazon.co.uk

I've emailed Finish Line to see if they can confirm its the same stuff.

Sounds like you're on top of things! Keep me posted, thanks!

Weird though that Rane doesnt offer a solution for non us customers. Rane where you at?

I'm not certain about that Finish Line stuff.
You definitely want a Teflon based lube.

I would suggest reaching out to our UK distributor, Sennheiser, and asking them what an alternative would be.

I find it very strange that Rane only recommends a product only available in the USA. Rane give us something here!

Did you try contacting Sennheiser and asking them?
Kalle2 11:11 AM - 5 June, 2014
I live in Sweden and I did contact my local distributor (em nordic) and they said to contact the place of purchase and they told me to contact the swedish distributor..

That is strange.. EM Nordic works on Rane mixers and should definitely have the correct lube.
I would call them back and tell them you were told by Rane that they repair Rane mixers there.
From there, ask them to ask their repair techs what lube they recommend.

Any news for the Teflon Du Pont in Europe?
I could only find it in USA, too expensive shipping!

Rane doesn't seem too concerned with this issue, why can't they do some research and endorse something you can find more globally ? Don't they sell enough product worldwide to that ?

In the same boat. Did you get the Weldtite? Did it work?

anybody else not liking the Teflon spray? I've used it a few times only to have to clean it out and use the caig sprays again.

@Zach
I live in Denmark, and have also contacted Em Nordic regarding this matter. They could not help me, but gave me info on the price of a new fader, 850dkr / $120 on request. I would rather get a $10 lube, than use $360 on new faders every time my faders needs a couple of lube drops.

It would be very nice if Rane found a lubrication product in Europe, that Rane recommended.

Have anyone found a place to get the correct lube in Europe?

Infamous Rane support at your service:)

MBLL… send me an email and I'll start a direct conversation with EM Nordic about this.
They do repairs on Rane mixers and obviously use a lubricant that works.
We'll figure it out.

Hi Zach,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I have emailed with Klaus Agerschou,

klaus.a@emnordic.dk

He contacted EM Nordic´s workshop, who only could give an Amazon-link to a US retailer, that did`nt ship to Denmark.

I have send you a mail regarding the matter, but decided make a post in the forum too. There must be a lot of european Rane users, that also need to know what lube to use.

Best regards,
Martin

Had to buy mine from the US, both lubes cost me in the region of €55 + custom charge I think. Found a UK source but they can't post aerosols.

Took about 6 days for it to be delivered.

@Marv.
Do you have a link to the UK store? It does'nt matter with the aerosol, as I prefer the non-spray bottle.

I just wanted to follow up on this.
I spoke to our lead engineer and was told uses can use an silicon based lube that doesn't damage plastic. He said most silicon lube will not damage plastics and should be easy to find.
Also.. in a pinch.. you can use sowing machine lube. It may not last that long but it won't damage anything.
MBLL 8:10 PM - 12 February, 2016
Hi Zach.

I´m a bit confused. I don´t know much about lubrication or chemicals. So I need Rane to let me know exactly what to use!

What is the difference between Teflon (Dupont owned brand) and polytetrafluoroetylen (PTFE). If its the same why don`t you recommend PTFE instead of Silicone-based lube?
It seems to me that the Dupont Teflon Multiuse is not silicone based.

Can you recommend WD-40 Specialist Silicon?

MBLL 10:49 AM - 15 February, 2016
WD-40 also makes a Wet PTFE.

Will that do the trick?
s3kn0tr0n1c 12:22 PM - 16 February, 2016
first uk(or Europe) shop stocking this could make some £$£$£$£

I just use the older CAIG DeoxIT stuff on mine and it works fine...

Once a year I do a quick clean (wipe of rails) then apply new lube.....
DJ Matty Stiles 3:19 PM - 16 February, 2016
Same problem in Australia. Wrote to Rane and they recommended selleys eyz glide. Works pretty well
DJ Dub Cowboy 5:22 PM - 18 February, 2016
I just spit on mine. Does the trick just fine.

Hey guys,

Ok.. I've tracked down a comparable lube that can be purchased through Amazon UK --> www.amazon.co.uk.

Good to go:)

Nice one zach...........on it
MBLL 8:26 PM - 28 February, 2016
Thanks Zach.

I have now tried the "Finishline Dry Teflon" lube. It did'nt do the trick for me. My fader felt way too stiff.

I can highly recommend "WD40 Specialist PTFE WET". It can be used on Metals, Glass, Vinyl, Rubber & Plastic. Note that there are two kind of WD40 PTFE lube. You want the WET one that works on metal, plastic and rubber.

I found the easiest way to apply this was to spray a little on a clean surface, and dip my finger in it. Then applied the lube to the rails using my finger (put on a latex glove first because you don’t want this on your skin). Rub it onto both rails, then move the carrier repeatedly left and right a few times so that it spreads the lubricant. My faders now move along the rails with only gravity helping out.

Nerdydj.com made a super guide.

cheers Zach.

nearly bought this stuff when searching for the DuPont lube, had found a UK bike website that were talking about the same DuPont lube and they recommended this stuff as a replacement too.
but I didn't want to risk putting some bike lube on my faders :)

MBLL… Did you actually take the fader apart and clean the rails, the end holes in the end blocks, and the inside of the carrier as mentioned in our fader cleaning article? dj.rane.com

If not, you will more than likely have issues with any lube you use because of the gunk still inside the carrier or next to the end blocks.

I took fader apart and cleaned it with alcohol as you describe. The Finish Line Teflon didnt do the trick. But my fader is buttersmooth after using the WD40 PTFE WET lube. That stuff is super. Try it! You will be amazed.

Ive just fully cleaned my fader and applied the "Finish Line Mountain Bike DRY Chain Lube" - www.amazon.co.uk

It feels really nice.

Heres what I did-

1. Took fader out mixer and disassembled.
2. Cleaned both rails with alcohol (IPA) wipes.
3. Cleaned the magnetic carrier bearing surfaces (Both the hole/slot that the rails go through) again using these alcohol wipes and a small plastic screw driver to push these wipes through hole.
4. Let alcohol evaporate off.
5. Put fader back together making sure I didnt get finger grease on rails etc.
6. Once the fader was back together I applied the Finish line Lube to both rails and simultaneously moved the fader back and forth to make sure lube got on fully.
7. Put fader back in mixer and tested it out.
8. Admired the new slick fader feel and got busy with swing flares and stab combos ;)

As I said my fader feels really good just now. I will post back once in a while to see how long this stays correct ;)

Well, living in Australia, I too cannot easily acquire the Rane recommended DuPont lubricant.

I wanted to point out that the Rane support page on topic dj.rane.com shows two products. The one in the smaller drip-bottle is Du Pont Teflon Multi-Use, Dry Wax Lubricant. The other is an aerosol is Du Pont Teflon Multi-Use Lubricant, but it doesn’t state Dry nor Wax, I’m pretty sure this is semi-dry lubricant.

Rane themselves say "This new stuff goes on wet to deeply penetrate moving parts, but sets up with a clean, dry, long-lasting film which will not attract and absorb dirt and grime (yay!). Wet or oily lubricants may feel good at first, but will attract dirt and evaporate or become dry over time."

In my opinion, Rane are referring to the Dry Wax Lubricant, because it goes on wet and in Du-Pont’s words: “…sets up in a dry, wax-like film that attracts less grime…”.
So I did some digging and found the manufacturer of the Du Pont is Finish Line Tecnnologies!

I cleaned up my faders with isolpropyl alcohol, applied a thin film of Finish Line Dry Bike Lubricant with Teflon Fluropolymer and my faders are slippery as butter, cost me AUD$18 from the local bike ship for 120mL.
