I moved my music to another internal hard drive and relocated all files in itunes

The problem is when i open SL 2.5 any music or videos that is under itunes has nothing in the Key field

They show up if i re-scan id
But once i close and reopen they are missing again

If i load a song/video the Key id info shows up witch it should because the id tag is being refreshed.

I just dont want to re-scan itunes in SL every time i open SL

is there a way to fix this

FYI
I have also renamed the itunes xml and that did not fix the issue
DJ Tapout 5:00 PM - 11 May, 2014
Also i have noticed that i have to re-add all my sp6 samples every time i restart SL

Hey Tapout,

Try rebuilding your databaseV2 file(s) --> serato.com

Quote:

Try this:

1. Open SSL.
2. Click Files.
3. Click on your House icon (usually named the user of the computer) in the first column of the Files window.
4. Click on the Library folder.
5. Click on the Preferences folder.
6. Hold down the cmd key and press the r key to "reveal" the info in the Preferences folder.
At that point a separate browser will open up.
7. From here, close down SSL but keep that browser window open.
8. Locate the Serato.ScratchLIVE.plist file and delete it.
DJ Tapout 8:50 PM - 13 May, 2014
Thanks Zach

I had tried that and it did not work.

But i tried it a second time deleting everything and it works so far...

I will try it out this week and weekend and see how it goes
DJ Tapout 5:53 PM - 14 May, 2014

If you add the key information manually to SSL does it save when opening SSL again?
DJ Tapout 6:37 PM - 14 May, 2014
no it does not and also the length are missing now on some files
Rane, Support
Zach S 6:48 PM - 14 May, 2014
What if you create a crate, drag a file from an iTunes playlist (within SSL) into the crate, and add the key info then. Does it save after shutting down and re-opening?
DJ Tapout 6:54 PM - 14 May, 2014
NO i have tried that per another help request i seen on the forums
Rane, Support
Zach S 10:35 PM - 14 May, 2014
Ok.. if you uncheck the read iTunes Library entirely, add key info to a file within a crate, and shutdown/re-open SSL is the key info still not showing up?

If so, please rebuild your databaseV2 file (again) and retest (again) without the read iTunes library option checked.
DJ Tapout 4:02 PM - 15 May, 2014
Ok if i uncheck the read itunes library the files all show the keys info after restart

also i re-analyze the files that was missing length info and now they have it after restarting SL

I use itunes for playlist is there a way to fix this so i can read itunes in SL without losing the key info?

thanks

This sounds like an iTunes issue.
If rebuilding iTunes's .xml file or database file isn't fixing it I'm not sure what else would.

Maybe you need to change the id3 tag version of your files?

Try using iTunes to strip one of your files and convert the tag version to 2.3.Note: This will delete any cues or loops you might have in your files. You might want to try this on one track first.
If you don't use iTunes than you'll want to go into the 'advanced' preferences of iTunes first and uncheck the 'copy files to iTunes music when adding to library' option.
Once you've done that than drag and drop all of your music into iTunes and follow the directions below.

1. Completely quit all programs.
2. Open iTunes.
3. Click on your 'music' to show all the songs in your library.
4. Select all (apple+a Mac) (ctrl+a PC) or select one song for testing purposes.
5. Right click on the highlighted area.
6. Select 'convert id3 tags'.
7. Check the 'id3 tag version' and select 'none'.
8. Press 'ok'.
9. Click on the 'advanced' column.
10. Select 'convert id3 tags'.
11. Check the 'id3 tag version' and select '2.3'.12. Press 'ok'.Once your done with this procedure you can delete everything out of iTunes by highlighting everything (apple+a Mac or ctrl+a PC) and pressing the delete key.
DJ Tapout 4:58 PM - 15 May, 2014
no that did not work either

I tried this also
1) i deleted the (itunes library.xml) and the itunes library.itl

2) reopened itunes (Now itunes looks like just installed)

3) go into the 'advanced' preferences of iTunes first and uncheck the 'copy files to iTunes music when adding to library' option.

4) unchecked Keep iTunes Media Folder organized

5) add a exported playlist from SL to itunes ( check to make sure songs played in itunes)

6) closed itunes reopened SL

7) clicked read itunes in SL

8) the files in the playlist did not have key info so i rescan id files and they show up

9) closed SL and reopened and Key info is gone again

this is with one playlist added to itunes

I'm not sure what else to suggest. I'm going to put this in our "help needed" section and see if Serato has anything to suggest.
DJ Tapout 5:46 PM - 15 May, 2014
ok sounds good

the only way around it that i have found is to

open SL

Disable read itunes

rescan id tags

close SL

reopen SL (tags are there)

enable read itunes (tags are in the itunes files)

play set

disable itunes

close SL

so as long as i open SL before gig and enable itunes
then disable itunes at the end of a gig

it works

Zach S 7:15 PM - 20 May, 2014

I will ping them now though.
DJ Tapout 8:08 PM - 20 May, 2014

Zach S 4:20 PM - 21 May, 2014
Please upload your .xml file to this post and we'll take a look at it.

Also.. does this happen when using SDJ as well?
DJ Tapout 4:38 PM - 21 May, 2014
ok will upload when i get home tonight

and i do not use SDJ because of all the issues.... with it and Rane 62

DJ Tapout 4:42 PM - 21 May, 2014
ok i upload the itunes xml file
Rane, Support
Zach S 4:19 PM - 22 May, 2014
Ok.. could you please zip up and upload the Metadata folder located within the _Serato_ folder inside the Music folder?

Also.. it would be good to know if this still happens in SDJ.
If you could try that it would be useful.
DJ Tapout 6:35 PM - 23 May, 2014
Metadata folder?

all 3? i have one in music, 1 in music HD, 1 in video HD

none of them contain anything about the songs in itunes

and NO i have not tried SDJ because of all the issues with it and i do not want to upgrade the firmware on my 62's
Rane, Support
Zach S 5:50 PM - 27 May, 2014
You don't need to update the firmware on the 62 in order to get SDJ open to see your library.
Its a simple test. All we would like to verify is if the tag issue is still present in SDJ.
Once we know that you can just delete SDJ from the system.
DJ Tapout 4:25 PM - 29 May, 2014
Yes same thing happens in SDJ key data is not there on any file that is under itunes library
Rane, Support
Zach S 7:49 PM - 29 May, 2014
Cool.. thanks for looking into that.
I'm waiting to see if Serato has any further leads.
DJ Tapout 7:58 PM - 29 May, 2014
Ok thanks Zach
sorry for late response been busy
DJ Tapout 10:51 PM - 3 June, 2014
Have you heard any feedback from Serato?
DJ Tapout 2:56 AM - 19 June, 2014
Have not heard from anyone on this...
A friend said it might be a issue with Mavricks OSX
Rane, Support
Zach S 3:48 PM - 19 June, 2014
Serato support is working with you at this point.
We'll have to wait to hear back from them.
DJ Tapout 5:27 PM - 3 July, 2014
So i guess still no word....

While you're at it, can you "ping" them regarding this six-month-old thread?

serato.com

Thanks in advance.

Hey DJ Tapout

Just so you know, we've been here all along working with Zach in the background on this one and will continue to do so to try and help you figure out what's going on with your iTunes.xml

DJMark - I'll continue to work with you over in your thread.

Cheers
Aaron

Hey DJ Tapout,

I've been in the background helping Zach out with this thread for sometime. Honest I couldn't say why this is happening.
I'd suggest making sure that you have repaired any disk permissions on your Mac.
Utilities > Disk Utilities > First verify and then Repair.

Also i'd suggest closing all programs, Renaming your _Serato_ folder to OldSerato_ and then relaunch the Serato application.
Once open you should have a fresh Serato library, no crates. Do the tags show up correctly with a new _Serato_ folder?
Once we know you can start rebuilding from there.

Regards
Dave
