Reloop RP 8000

AKIEM 5:58 PM - 21 October, 2013

Anyone believe this is a viable replacement for 1200s?
Kool DJ Sheak One 6:07 PM - 21 October, 2013
I would have to try it.
I don't like Vestax or Nu-Mark TTs so...
This shit would have to have the right feel to it.
Buttons schmuttons.
They need a stripped down, less expensive version.
Kool DJ Sheak One 6:16 PM - 21 October, 2013
And why would they not put those cues on the top of the deck?
So when I flip them shits from disco to hip-hop, they line up next to the mixer!
Suprised no key lock feature with all the other bells and whistles.

Not a replacement.

I would be more interested in seeing a 12" motorized, midi platter with stupid knobs, strips, pads and a gyroscope and motion sensors.

Who's going to be playing "real" vinyl on these joints?
Unless it had on-board, analog samplers on the decks for that.

I am actually waiting for the release, if they are in the 400-600 range, I wouldn't mind picking up a pair.

LOL, no worries. I have actually had Reloop on my radar for a couple of years now. I was only hesitant because there was only a small amount of distributors here in the US. Although they seem to have a great following in Europe.
XCAKID 7:23 PM - 21 October, 2013
Here's a nice review of the RP6000, if the 8000 is gonna be anything like it, it will be an awesome TT.

i think the Black 7000 will become the standard, if it has the construction we are accustomed to from the 1200. Yes, the 8000 is nice but to be honest I dont like all them damn buttons
dj_soo 10:45 PM - 21 October, 2013
i just wish they would get themselves a damn distributer in Canada
AKIEM 2:08 AM - 22 October, 2013
the extra start•stop looks like its taking space from more midi buttons
Cisco El Nino 4:38 AM - 22 October, 2013
viable yes, as its another "super-oem" table like stanton 150's, Audio Technica AT-alp1240, american audio htd 4.5, with more bells n whistles, but you won't be seeing these in clubs or as a standard how many stanton 150's have you seen in a club?

I wonder how many of these 8000's will move in the US as i didnt see their other table, the Reloop 6000 mk6 move that well.
CMOS 7:41 PM - 22 October, 2013
Whats the 2nd start button for? I seen a few tables have this, whats the use?
XCAKID 8:55 PM - 22 October, 2013
Those that have it set up in battle mode, puts the start/stop in the same spot as if it would be if you set it up in traditional.

For me, I have gotten so used to playing battle mode, that when I go to a standard set up, I find myself grabbing the Hinge Covers trying to adjust the pitch.

Battle mode is how I always play unless the set I am jumping up on is standard.
lunizus 5:58 AM - 23 October, 2013
anyone one what the price will be?
Mighty Dragon Sounds 12:45 PM - 23 October, 2013
They say around 799 eruos on the high end models (One with the midi buttons all over it)

Read somewhere, can't recall now, that it will be around $700 each

Is there any advantage to this?

Makes it hard to rock dicers.
phatbob 9:29 PM - 23 October, 2013
I had a play around with one at the BPM show...

As far as the deck itself goes, it's a Super OEM. A decent 'current' alternative to 1200s; in exactly the same way as the Stanton 150 and all the others are.

In terms of the midi buttons, they seem to work well enough; a little spongy for my liking, but that's just personal taste.

Position-wise, I couldn't get the needle to jump when hitting the buttons with normal force, so I think they've got the positioning right.

The big problem it faces, is that even after the increase of used Tech prices, I could still score a pair of MK2s and some Dicers for around the price of one 8000...
lvmez 11:00 PM - 23 October, 2013
Great point phatbob. Here in NYC, there are a lot of 1200's for sale. You can score a pair for under $700 very easily. With that being said why not stick to industry standard.

you don't need dicers - it has buttons already
DjBliZz 12:26 AM - 13 November, 2013
Serato has always stated that you need a Serato box/mixer to run any HID. Is this true with this new turntable? Does it send the audio back to the turntable to then plug in to any mixer? Or do you still need a box for the audio output?
AKIEM 4:10 AM - 13 November, 2013
If it don't say Serato on it...
DjBliZz 5:34 AM - 13 November, 2013
Yeah I figured out that the USB is MIDI only. Took me about 10 different product descriptions to find that information.
AKIEM 5:50 AM - 13 November, 2013
Yeah, I can't think of a real advantage but it might be cool to have a Serato deck.
Mighty Dragon Sounds 6:36 PM - 2 December, 2013
Just talked to a Reloop Distributor in the USA......

Reloop 8000/7000release dates are late January early February

Reloop 8000 price as of now..... $999.00 approx

Reloop 7000 price is $700.00 approx.
DJ Dynamight 8:26 PM - 2 December, 2013
I kinda like the 7000/8000, but don't really have a reason why. I don't even need new decks, or would ever sell my 1210s, but I am interested in checking it out.

I've also been looking for a decent pair of M5Gs...again i don't even need it...smh

After playing on some Stanton 150s, the more powerful motor really does give the turntable a more solid feel IMO......

If you watched the "Grandmaster Jay" I am a DJ video on youtube where you saw he make a newbie mistake by pressing down on his record so hard it actually stopped the platter, well these Super OEM motors are much stronger..... No more newbie stops of the platter unless you physically grab the damn thing.

The dial button for start stop time is also a cool feature as well as the 50 percent pitch up and down range vs MK2s 8+/- or the M5Gs 16+/-

All in all, I have yet to hear a bad review of the recent releases of the "Super OEM" style turntables (except the first generation Numark TTXs if you count those)

I've been waiting in anticipation for a company in this day an age to release a turntable in a controller filled market and I finally got it. Everything I loved about my 1200s/1210 wrapped in some new features.....

If Panasonic was to for some reason Drop a 1210 MK12 with all the same features, would I get it!!!??? Hell ya.
The Oldboy 8:33 AM - 5 December, 2013
do these reloops not have a bit of a light plastic feel to them to though? I always thought they would
Mighty Dragon Sounds 11:57 AM - 5 December, 2013
The weight on them things is about 21 lbs so a bit lighter then the techs. According to these spec sheets its an all metal top plate like the technics.

Available starting tomorrow for $799.99

Lower then what I expected.

Only think I am concerned about this new table, reloop rp 8000 is:

wow and flutter:

is it made in Germany and real parts: not from China

adjustment of the tonearm: are they solid

solid pads:
jamster????? 11:24 PM - 12 December, 2013
Can the weight of the tables hold up:

21 pounds

We know super oems wow and flutter is not with the technics and

the tonearm assembly has to be adjusted
DJ Dynamight 2:31 AM - 13 December, 2013
Nice! who's gonna order 1st??
Mighty Dragon Sounds 3:00 AM - 13 December, 2013
Of course this guy.......... ;-)

But I am debating if I should get the 8000 or the 7000s......... When I had dicers, I found myself seldom using them so will having Midi Buttons on my turntables be worth the extra $250.00????
jamster????? 12:16 AM - 14 December, 2013
yes they are the bomb with same wow and flutter and MK5gs

get them :

if you want them.

just adjust the arm assembly , if you can

the SOUNDINSURGENT 2:46 AM - 15 December, 2013
I believe they also have the pad effects mapped to them which you can't do with dicers with SDJ. The tables are built for SDJ. If your never gonna upgrade from SSL to SDJ then get the 7000's with dicers otherwise I'd go with the 8000's.
Mighty Dragon Sounds 3:18 AM - 15 December, 2013
Plus there are 8 buttons for the upcoming 8 cue points of Serato DJ instead of the 5 on the dicers.

You have to get use to those buttons but reloop put more wow and flutter improvements
in the rp8000 with its digital pitch control.

and also torque adjustments , so you can slow down the table platter for the feel of 1200s because believe , me it you are doing trick at 4.5 torque and hit the platter by mistake , you can break your finger , because the platter hangs on the top of the tables.

i still use my mk2s even though , my lights are broken, but i already replaced the tonearms
and rca cables my self.

you have to adjust to the buttons
jamster????? 4:01 AM - 15 December, 2013
I can keep my tables on quartz lock and let serato do the bpm matching while i am
blending and that make wow and flutter better because the software improves it.

but if you want rp 7000 get it.

the won't be clutter just slow the torque down and use them for special occasions

We all know mk2s and mk5 are the best

dj_soo 8:20 AM - 23 December, 2013
8 buttons vs 5, higher torque, new which means warranty although also means not time-tested, replacement parts are readily available. That's probably it.

I'll definitely get me a pair then. I'm really thinking about replacing my Denon 3700's with the rp8000 since I was only keeping my 1200's at home for use and bringing 3700's out in public. The rp-8000's would give me all the bells of both units on the road.

Well I guess if you wanted that slow wind down you should keep it in Phono mode or use the start/stop break option

Come to think of it.... Does the Stantons do the same thing??? I never tried.... Lemme go see if mine does it.

Nice double tap.... lol

It should. It looks like they have the same dimensions and when you see pics and videos of these and technics side by side, they have eyeball gauged same sizes.

If you look at the platter, it seems that they have moved the platter further towards the tonearm and the tone arm closer to the edge to make room for the midi buttons.

Hopefully soon.

If PSSL can get their act together and get mines...... Grrrrrr, great company but damn..... I got me with the initial release date of 5 January 2014..... I ordered it and eventually they kept pushing the release date further and further.

Another Distributor, AV MAXX got like a few of them and sent them out within hours of receiving them.

I am seriously debating on calling one of my friends stationed in Europe to pick up a set for me.
DjCity 4:49 PM - 13 February, 2014
That might not be a bad idea.

If pssl has not received them yet, if they have not shipped them yet, they should not have charged you yet.

You just might get them quicker if you ask a buddy in Europe to get them for you and to ship them to you.

Then again, pssl might get their shipment in tomorrow.

Who knows...

Yea man, the charged me up front and told me I was gonna get them shipped as soon as they got to the warehouse on the 5th of January..... Well that date is long gone.

I finally got someone to give me the down low details. Apparently the main US distributor only got a small handful and they seem to have went to all the big DJs and reviewers and I guess a pair went to display at NAMM.

Right now the suspected shipping date is end of February early March.
DjCity 5:07 PM - 13 February, 2014
If you can get one of your buddies overseas to ship a pair to you, You may get them faster than waiting on pssl.

I'm waiting for Proaudiostar to get them in stock.

I still don't know what I want to do about a mixer though.

I have a 57sl that won't work with SDJ.
I just got a 62 that i'm not happy with using on SDJ
I am thinking of either the 64 or the 61.

The controls are on the decks so I don't really need all that on the mixer so a 61 MIGHT be perfect.
The 64 has all the bells and whistles and is designed for SDJ so maybe that would be better.

The 61 is WAAAY less expensive than the 64. The 61 fits in the same mixer case as the 62.

It's still a toss up.

Or... I may just get these and rock my Dicers.
www.ebay.com

Or...

I may just Plasti Dip my current 1200's and rock my Dicers.

OR...

I may Plasti Dip my 1200's, Sell em and buy either the green 12's or the Reloops.
Mighty Dragon Sounds 5:09 PM - 13 February, 2014

My 1200's have brand new tone arms, internal grounding, calibrated and tuned just a few weeks ago so outside of the faceplate, they are in perfect condition.

A Lil plasti dip will go a looooong way to making them an outstanding purchase of I decide to sell them.

No because Stanton's have a separate power switch for this reason I believe.

Well they are based off the Super OEM design.... My Stanton 150s can fit in the same cases that I put my Technics in.

Spec wise they are slightly lighter then Technics 1200s..... and the Stantons are friggin just about twice as heavy as the Technics....

I plan on using it with SDJ.... I am tired of backtracking my firmware to run SSL on days my computer decides to act stupid with SDJ.... I am just going to tough it out till the next update.

They are midi turntables with cue, loop, sample triggers.

I understand that, they were also designed FOR sdj judging by the number if cue points
DjCity 9:45 PM - 27 February, 2014
I would agree but there is mapping for ssl and to date, I don't believe there is mapping for SDJ.

It might be a moot point because cues, loops and samples pretty much work the same across the two platforms with the exceptions of the extra cue points, loop roll, slicer and the like that sdj has.

From what it sounds like, they didn't go the official SDJ route so you'd have to map everything yourself. The problem is that you are currently unable to map loop roll to any midi in SDJ at the moment,

This is the problem I'm having with them, No matter what I try… When programing my midi buttons, after I program them, save… then shut everything down… when I turn everything back on, It doesn't work like it should All the buttons don't light back up, like it's not saving... It's just with the lights though... So the button functionality works but a few of the buttons don't light up, as they should when they are programed.... I contacted support, so hopefully should fix soon, might be something I'm not doing right too?! No biggie.... They are dope and def if you get them you will like 'em I brought them out to all three of my gigs this week and plan on using them from now on full time! I can't believe it myself, I've been DJn for almost 17yrs and never used anything besides... NOTHING! Once you try'em you'll be able to tell the difference, for sure.... I figured keep my irreplaceable 1210M5G turns that cost $2500-$3000 to replace.. If you can even find them!! Verses these that I picked up for $680 a piece through my gear connect... It only makes sense right?

No not really..... I am using a 62 and there are times when I would rather hit the cue buttons and use the controls on the mixer versus on the turntable.....

I did the same when I had dicers. Normal mixing and juggling I would stick to the buttons on my mixer.

When I start moving fast and drumming, I use the dicers. And I can see my self doing the same with the midi pads on the Reloops.

The reloops midi buttons also have a nice rebound bounce to them. Better then the Dicers IMO......

Also..... Again some people have worried about vibration and it being slow close to the platter that it may cause vibration and feed back.... i think that its position slightly below the platter negates this more then how the dicers were positioned.

I noticed that with hard pounding.... I could get my needle to bounce when using Dicers..... with these Reloops I haven't had any issues like that.

Cool. Look forward to testing these babies out...... Making sure EVERYONE stays the hell away from my decks this weekend..... Its too early to test out of these Super OEM turntables can take beer spills like my Technics used to.
Nicholy 2:37 PM - 6 March, 2014
I like the overall concept of these tables, but the main issue I can see that may develop is that if you have an issue with the buttons you have to send the whole unit in for service instead of borrowing or replacing a set of dicers....I had to get the cues replaced on my 62 and was out of a mixer for a 1 1/2 weeks. While Ranes service turn around is top notch, it's still an incovience. I'm not sure you'd get that same service through Reloop, especially since I believe they are not stateside.
None the less, it's great to see a company supporting turntables and giving a lot of DJ's what they want.

Field Testing Reports as follows:

Each Reloop RP 8000 was transported in its own individual Flight Case. The Flight Cases were the Odysessy Black Label Flight Cases that used to house my Technics 1210 M5Gs.....

1) The Reloops may actually be a few millimeters larger then the Technics 1210/1200.... I am summarizing this from the extra snug fit that the Reloops gave when putting them into the flight cases. Now this can simply be that the Cases were just formed to the shape and foot print of the Technics. It was a good feeling snuggly fit whereas my Technics kinda just plop in there.

2) Leave everything plugged in. Even though RCA, USB, and Power Cables are removable, it really increased set up time fumbling around with the wires. Miss the permanently attached RCA and Power Cable of my Technics. Remember to make your (Left) or Channel 1 Turntable as the master USB hub and daisy it to you (Right) or Channel 2 Turntable as this is what the Reloops Powerup to by default. You can customize it but its an extra unnecessary step if your just using 2 turntables.

3) The extra torque is incredibly accurate and gives you that extra room of forgiveness it seems when you let go of the record and accidentally hold too much friction.

4) I had the club booth monitor turned up pretty much all the way and aimed directly at my turntables to see if the light weight material would cause vibration and loss of tracking..... Nothing happened out of the ordinary. It took quite a bit of directed bass in order for it to start showing interference.

5) I swapped out different Cartridges throughout the night. Shure 44-7s, Ortofon S120 and Ortofon Q-berts..... They all performed well with the unit.

The Ugly:

The RCAs that came with the units seemed to fit pretty loosely with my Rane 62. A quick swap with the RCAs that came with my Stanton 150s seemed to have done the trick. If your RCAs are loose, the good thing about disconnect-able RCAs is that you can always swap out.

SDJ 1.6 doesn't natively support the midi functions of the Reloops so the midi buttons won't light up making it pretty difficult to see which cue button you are hitting in the dark. They are STILL mappable however. Im sure its only a matter of time before an update is put out to fix this.....

Overall the units performed flawlessly IMO during my 4 hour gig. I remained superbly sober the entire night to ensure that I didn't miss a thing.... and sure enough I didn't miss the real ugly.... but it didn't come from the Reloops.... It came from SDJ 1.6

In my Soberness I noticed..... Holy hell SDJ 1.6 audio for some reason sounds like crap.... And it really hit me when I was listening through my booth monitor..... WTF is this what my customers been hearing all this time????

Also.... Why am I have stupid USB dropouts.... I have the most powerfully configured MacBook Pro 13inch Retina that you can get from the Apple Store right now and I experienced Drop Outs with even a lose in latency randomly..... Comon.... 16gb of Ram, 1tb SSD and the new Haswell Processor??? Comon......

Anyway.... I am too extremely sober right now...... Must....... Find....... me..... a...... Blue Moon.....

At this point. Technics offer that historic and nostalgic value. They are the AK-47s of the DJ world..... They've been around since the beginning, withstood the test of time and will work even after you've thrown everything at it.

But if your looking for a more advanced option to have for more practical modern day usage while still keeping the roots of tradition: Reloops RP8000s is my happy median.

For my Tone Arm I always put it at the lowest level flush with the turntable.

The Shures I don't run any headshell weights. Its set for 3 grams of counter weight.

For my Ortofons I have 2gram of headshell weight plus 4 grams of tonearm weight.

For my Qberts I have it set between 3.5 and 4 grams
Niro 11:24 PM - 8 March, 2014
The 44-7's start to max out at 3.5-4 and will bottom out on wobbly platters or warped records, no matter what turntable you are using. The Ortofons on the other hand can take more weight because of the shorter stylus length, but does not handle horizontal movement as well as the shures.

The cartridge I have found that is in the middle of the two (and sounds better than Ortofons on regular records) are the White Taruya Needles made by Abe for Disc Jams in Japan. They are almost right in the middle of the 44-7's and Ort Q-Berts. I can run them at 3.5g for most gigs, but also run them up to 4.5g for a bouncy floor. They also keep their audio balance well under a lot of weight.

Hoping to get a pair of the RP8000's soon. Hoping they do a good job of getting them into the clubs and they becoming a little more of a standard.

But me being me I wrote Reloop USA and they are sending me some

I am not sure you do it with SSL because I've been mostly using it with SDJ 1.6 but I will see later on today since I reverted back to SSL Firmware.

To instant double enable instant double in the software and double tap the load track button (On 62)

I imagine you can.... I was able to midi assign every button on the Reloops.... Try Midi assigning the Scroll Knob Button Push as the load button. When you double tap it it should load.....

I wouldn't know how to assign the scrolling in SDJ....... Another reason why I stopped doing it. I'm just going to wait till the update comes out.

Those that have used both ST-150's and the new Reloop RP-8000's - can you tell how they compare in terms of build quality and feel?

I'm thinking I'd maybe like to make the switch from my Stanton's as I find them a bit unpractical because of the weight and I also have a small apartment and some space issues, so I could even go with just one Reloop turntable at the start for cutting and playing with instant doubles/midi and then maybe get the second turntable later on.

I have used both and this I must say.....

EVERYTHING about the Reloop RP 8000 is superior..... The Stanton 150 although powerful, it was sooooo friggin heavy for no reason.

Reloops weigh a little less then Traditional Technics 1200s.... Almost like in-between a CDJ 1000 and Technics 1200....

Really cool. Seeing under the platter bugged me out...guess I'm used to the way the platter is recessed on the Technics.
AKIEM 8:48 PM - 18 March, 2014
So a couple things might fall slightly short of the 1200 I can see
(have no idea about the electronics)

- the underside is plastic and could crack eventually compared to the rubber on the 1200

- the 33 45 reverse buttons are rubber and might wear funny over time. start.stop is real close to 1200 just a little smaller. I guess the second one is useful but I would have preferred more midi controlles

- the housing around the LED pitch light is plastic, should have been aluminum

- screen printing on the midi buttons might wear poor over time. I would have preferred something hard plastic closer to laptop keys for more precision. not horrible tho. They are mounted into some sort of rubberized piece for dampening. taping on them is fine, no tracking issue

- I dont like the name of the function on each button since I am changing all those functions - eh

- its always going to need the angled ac cord, you can see straight one sticks right out

- top metal piece I guess is glued to the plastic. It would have been cool if it could be easily removed for custom painting

- It does speed up on shut down, but its not ridiculous. could throw some people off. You can adjust the stop buttons to work like a power wind down but then they start slow too. I would have liked separate controls over stop and start. But I actually just count it as a 'different feel' compared to 1200.

- inside 'looks' more fragile (maybe it is, maybe not)

Cool Stuff

- the build quality really does seem good. In some slight ways maybe better that the og, some ways not. those are actually locking screws (not sure what they are called) Ive seen decks with fake ones. Mater of fact there is nothing "fake" on the deck (maybe plastic)

- all buttons and dials are midi but cant be unassigned the original function - not sure exactly how I might use them but I might

- the added torque is kinda nice.

- there are some real quality elements for example the brass on the spindle is SUPER FLUSH with the plater (I dont know how they did that)

- underside of the platter is rubber. my guess is for stability

- I actually like these feet better, might not look as cool but they can be angled much more for sitting on an uneven surface. the rubber keeps them from sliding like the 1200s

- you can actually plug another device in usb in (dont quote me on that yet, I think it was working (Im sitting on jury duty typing this out))

- whatever it is about taking the plater of and it being flat like a table just intrigues me for some reason

- it can be set to be the controller for 4 different decks, meaning it has four midi layers (wish you could switch between them faster)

- firmware is upgradable (maybe the wind down can be adjusted)

Overall I think its will last the 10 to 12 years I expect it too.

i just tried this with my ddjsp1 and it lights up but the mapping for SDJ is not there. You can manually map and it works. So yes you can daisy chain another device.

Wonder how I could make the DDJSP1 work with SDJ without manually remapping it?

Will there be mappings for Serato DJ?
Will they be natively supported by Serato DJ?

At this stage I dont have any information about native mapping, however we would like to included them in our supported controllers/accessories for Serato DJ. It's not my position to say if a native mapping will be available, however our team are well aware of the request and how AWESOME the RP-8000 can be inside Serato DJ :)

Quote:
Can we get the lights on the turntable (cues) to work with Serato DJ?
Can we get the cue lights to stay ON while using Serato DJ?

There is no MIDI output lighting available in Serato DJ currently (which is required for lights to be lit/), but MIDI output lighting in Serato DJ is defiantly something we would like to do. Scratch Live had MIDI output lighting and will be great if we could include it in Serato DJ :)

Sorry for being vague, that is all the information I have about the RP-8000 at this stage!

The RP-8000s look like great turntables and am actually considering getting a pair myself :)

Not as easy as they should be. I don't think they were designed to be, but it does not look difficult either.

In the flics the two thicker red wires are pasted down over the back side of the buttons. There is one pcb which would have to be removed as well. If it were easier, I would have went ahead and opened it up to look at the buttons.

yup - The ONLY reason for me was the midi buttons (been waiting for something like these for some years) but if you dont need midi or prefere dicers (which I dont like) 1200s is still king.

Its a Hanpin Super OEM, not a 1200 killer.

On the other hand I never really thought I would buy anything but a used 1200. I bought mine 25 years ago new and expect them to last my whole career with or without this Reloop.

The thing I wont like is a new better version in the future (did only buy one tho)

I am not hating on the 8's but it looks like to me that a lot can go wrong with them.

- Do they have ground wires? (if not or they are grounded in the inside, that might be mighty's tracking problem)

- To many dam cords (I thought digital means less hook up)

-For 740 a piece, I shouldn't have to buy extra cords.

-if the pad button breaks how do you get them replaced

- How good is the build ( will it last pass 2 years or last like the 12's)

- Whats the purpose of a usb if you can't plug nothing into it except another 8

These are just some questions I have about the re loops.
I will stay with the original and you all can have the remix

I was wondering about this too....

Aren't the buttons different sizes?

So if say, the 3rd button went bad, for some strange reason, you'd have to stipulate that the actual "3rd" button from the left ( or whatever went bad) if they send replacement parts, OR maybe they'll say you need to send in the entire unit....

Both options suck...

pretty sure the tracking issue has nothing to do with the R8. Im not having any issue like that.

if you mean the third ground wire on the ac cord, no they dont.

Quote:
- To many dam cords (I thought digital means less hook up)

the only thing extra is the USB

and I just checked - if you plug a device into the 'in' it does relay the midi. But the notes show up as if they were coming from the R8, possibly some conflicts.

my guess is its one large piece of rubber - you would replace the whole thing. It really doesnt look like a difficult job

Quote:

My guess is 10 to 12 years. I never expected that much out of my 1200s either tho.

And nothing is ever going to be built like the Technics 1200s. Its just not going to happen - Super OEM is the new 1200 (imo)

working with the table more.

If the Torque is set to all the way to 'classic' (weakest) the start.stop and the power off wind down is the same as the 1200.

It only speeds up on 'power off' if the Torque is set higher.

so you can get it to behave pretty much like a 1200.

If the Torque is set to all the way to 'classic' (weakest) the start.stop and the power off wind down is the same as the 1200.

It only speeds up on 'power off' if the Torque is set higher.

so you can get it to behave pretty much like a 1200.

Kinda hard to get used to low torque after a while.... lol

The Battlestar Galactica Is lit up and ready!!!

Still some slight problems though. If you know about them PLEASE help a broth out

1. How do you move from files back to crates?

2. How do you Instant Double?

With my 64, the scroll files knob now scrolls transitions in Serato Video.

To tell you the truth, I have never used 4 tables in a live setting currently. Only back in the day when doing "Battle of the Bands" dj competition. I use it mostly just playing around at home. Even with the controllers, I mainly use just 2 :) But you cant go wrong with Rane quality! 64 definitely has more features that the 68 and it is SeratoDJ mapped.
dj jamalot 2:53 AM - 27 March, 2014

umm.. yes sync will "help" align songs IF the beat grid and song beat pattern are in a 4/4 no wow or flutters.

Sync is not perfect.
And just because Sync is available doesn't mean that you need to use it.
and if you do not use Sync on a controller, you still have to finesse your mix using 4 decks just like a turntable.
Try that with 70s 80s music :)

Sorry... Just tired of Sync bashing. BPM readers was the sync back then
I'm an old school DJ who appreciate and accepts new technology :)

New gen's very cheap and also if there's no midi buttons then they don't get it. We're talking about a generation that does not understand paying for music. Why would they wanna buy a mixer for 7 hundo? Same reason I never sold mine. I'm generally speaking though. I'm not saying all new jacks are cheap of course. Just most of 'em, unless mommy and daddy are paying for it. Then it's Pio nexus everything.
dj_soo 9:21 PM - 30 March, 2014
$700 seems a little steep for a 909 these days - consider you could get a used 57 for around that amount now.

Very true. I think $500-600 is a good price for it.

Although they're two completely different mixers though. The thing they have in common is that they're both great 2 channel scratch mixers. Other than that, we're talking about a tank with hardware effects vs a great DVS mixer with tons of ins/outs.

Man, I remember feeling like the man as if I owned two holy grails when I had a 909 and a 57. Now it's whatever lol

IE, the Tab focus?

I might have missed something in the default mappings on the new firmware?
*spinning the knob scrolls whichever panel your in,
*double clicking the panel loads instant double to the deck

which function switches the knob to Tab Focus mode?
Joshua Carl 8:06 PM - 31 March, 2014
Here's something I figured out, which we'll be talking about.

in Serato DJ you cannot Midi Map Loop Roll
on the Reloop it comes with, default mapping "cue-sample-loop-user"
but because you cannot map loop-rolls IN SERATO DJ you can not map them to the user page on the reloop8000

this is more a serato dj issue than reloop issue obviously... or anyone using a nono-native mappable device wit SDJ
AKIEM 8:26 PM - 31 March, 2014
Tab = push + turn

works fine with me

When midi doesnt work the way I think it should there are a couple programs I open to see whats happening. OSCulator is one.
Joshua Carl 8:34 PM - 31 March, 2014
Ill give that a shot tonight

djaction 9:00 PM - 1 April, 2014
dealbreakers for this are the fact that the buttons dont change colors like the dicers and that there are 8 buttons! 2 separate rows of 4 would make much more sense musically and be less clunky
AKIEM 12:04 AM - 2 April, 2014
well as far as two sets of four buttons, it really is very easy to find each button by touch. For example to find #5 just put four fingers on the last eight buttons which is super easy and natural feeling, then your index is #5. Finding the buttons blind is very easy.

I thought about adding something to divide them and be able to found them by touch but its not really needed

Hey guys

The RP-8000 is working as "Open Beta" with 1.6.1 and will be fully supported with a coming release.

Things we have collected so far, that will improve with official support:

- push and scroll should go back to crates, same as Scratch Live mapping provided by Reloop
- double tap the TRAX encoder should do instant doubles.
- we want to be sure the link mode works properly
- ... (we might come up with some other things ;) )

So feel free to use Your RP8000's with 1.6.1 but keep in mind it is not officially supported yet and we don't recommend using them in a Iive situation yet.
I'll keep tracking this discussion so if you find the time to play around with the RP8000's in Serato DJ 1.6.1, any feedback is appreciated.

Cheers

You can now access Loop Rolls as a shift action on the regular loop page

-> hold the Loop button and press a pad.

The user mode is currently not mapped as far as I know.
Joshua Carl 8:21 PM - 7 April, 2014
thanks for the update Karl....
a. will it always be a 2 -finger action?

b. any chance down the road it can come natively mapped either in "User" or "Sampler"

Problem being.
personally I go back and forth between Loop rolls and Cue Points rather quickly on the dicers.
or even on the 62

the color change makes it very easy to slip back and forth and distinguish between the 2
(something not native to the reloop, not Seratos problem)
but a 2 finger solution makes it pretty hard to operate CUE + Loop roll in split mode
[IE 1-4 cues, 4-8 loop rolls]

just food for thought...
DJ_X_Trodinaire 8:35 PM - 7 April, 2014
+1. I prefer loop rolls too!!

How bout making the loop button flash = loop roll

Turning them off will cut the LINE Level Signal (because the built in pre-amp is without power then). But if you use the phono Level instead, then they behave just like Technics 1200s and you get the clasic slow down effect (Signal still comes trough)

We will officially support them in an upcoming release. Not too far off either ;)

working with the table more.

If the Torque is set to all the way to 'classic' (weakest) the start.stop and the power off wind down is the same as the 1200.

It only speeds up on 'power off' if the Torque is set higher.

so you can get it to behave pretty much like a 1200.

My current conclusion is 1200 are superior in the given feature set. I think 1200s are built better than Hanpins. But Hanpins might be the best option for a new deck. I doubt anything is ever built as well as 1200s.

If you want the new feature sets, so far so good. Im not disappointed yet, time will tell. But if you dont care about new features, a used 1200 is still probably the best bet.
DjCity 8:31 PM - 16 April, 2014
I do NOT have the Reloop 8000's knocking 1200's out the box.

Don't get me wrong. It's a great turntable but Techs are built better.
I'm still getting used to the platter being ABOVE the faceplate. It's given me room for pause when pitch blending via the platter because I am so used to having my finger lower. When I naturally pitch blend via the platter on the 8000, my finger hits below the dots.

it's a small adjustment I have to make but it's an adjustment nevertheless.

The 8000's really seem to be great tables but I don't have them replacing WORKING techs.

As far as build quality and features..... I say technologically the Reloops outshine Technics by far.... I mean lets face it, features alone this thing blows it out of the water.

But having said that........... (I am an obsessive technics lover)

Its like comparing the significance of the OG AK-47 Assault rifle and a Modern Day Piston Driven AR built by H&K.........

Like the AK-47s..... OG Technics have their place in history and just don't die......

But........ Features and Spec Wise..... Reloops > Technics hands down....

Historical Value...... Technics > Reloops
DjCity 8:48 PM - 16 April, 2014
I agree that feature and spec wise, Reloop 8000's win hands down but build wise, They do not "feel" better built than 1200's.

Time will tell though.

But how bad ass would that be.... Reloop drops a Firmware update....... and now our Reloops become a DVS interface in an out of itself..... - Change scroll focus with hold and twist knob
- Jump into crate with a simple push (then second push loads selected song)
- hold Sampler button + pads 7/8 change banks
- slicer mode (User mode button) / hold user mode button to change parameters with pads 1/2 // 7/8)

Old school factor and simplicity =RP8000s
Bells and whistles, use cd, hdd, usb=CDJ900

With me, I would buy both lol
Ever since Ive owned and gig'd with the cdj800mk2, I probably used the cd disc player twice for a wedding. None with the sc3900s. But there is nothing wrong with having cd, usb and hhd player available as a just in case.

Technically with the midi buttons, you can do more in some cases with the RP8000s

No cue buttons on the CDJ 900s

So one thing that has become somewhat annoying. When using phono and not running any sound through (playing a record) there is a slight hum and audible thump sound even without the plater spinning. It goes away as soon as any audio is transmitted and takes a second before it starts up. It does not seem to be an issue as long as audio is playing. Aside from that annoyance I'm a little worried about that sound happening while I'm playing a record in the future.

Can anyone else confirm?
blackavenger 10:19 PM - 28 April, 2014
I love these decks, but the lack of an insulated rubber base concerns me. I have seen loads of videos on YouTube, but none so far with people playing regular vinyl with them. I'm sure w' DVS they are perfect, but I am skeptical for their use w' music cut vinyl.

Can any of Y'all put my concerns to rest?
DJ Quartz 10:21 PM - 28 April, 2014

DJ Quartz 12:02 AM - 29 April, 2014
Ha ha,

Listen, I'm talking about tapping on the body of the turntable. How it handles bass feedback and things of that nature.

Not to mention scratching, etc. on actual vinyl vs using dvs.

I tested my ST-150's back in '04 that I use on the road with actual vinyl before I bought them.

I did the same routine that I did on 1200's prior. Testing the skip proofness, feedback resistance, etc.

They are isolated and survive all that.

Just playing vinyl normally, I don't expect to be any problems there.

I need to see someone beat on these things with regular vinyl to know how well they are isolated, etc, etc.

Angelo demonstrated them very well but once again this was on DVS.

Someone cut up real vinyl, place a sub by them, etc. and see how they fair.

Well.......

Here are some things that I didn't mention on my field reports because I quickly fixed them, but it was the same fix that I did with my Technics so they were no better or worse...

When it comes to bass vibrations and insulation, yes they are just as vulnerable to bass and movement when you are playing in a loud environment, especially with poorly placed speakers.

How I have combated this is simple, it was a trick I did back in the day to.

Place a folded towel under your decks so that they absorb the shock of the bass. Problems go away.

I was DJaying at a club in San Antonio along with DJ Ammunition. He had his Technics set on a foam pad while my Reloop RP8000s were just naked on the table.

You could tell I was getting plenty of interference by the red bumps in the tracking but they trucked along the whole night.

Over the weekend I purchased a check roll up yoga mat for like $25.00

I placed my decks on top of it and DJayed at a Caribbean event in Houston which was in a very ECHO happy dance hall with the bass bouncing everywhere.........

They worked like a champ! Anything short of someone physically banging on the tables was able to be absorbed.
blackavenger 8:46 AM - 29 April, 2014

I remember I wanted these soooo bad

I had this spot where I was the only vinyl guy, so they put the sub right next to the booth.
So much rumble.

I have seen the molded rubber feet cushions
(Basically look like a gel ash-tray you tt feet slip into snugly)

Those work pretty well.

In our review of the RELOOP (coming very soon to remix report)
I noted that the foot design is 2 pieces
A main center piece that's rubber.
And a aluminum ring that makes contact with the surface when
You put the table on a surface.

I have to think this is by some sort of design to absorb sound.
I did play a regular vinyl with a speaker right on it
But I really wasn't pushing it to chexk sub-harmonic feedback

If you wanted to use the SX w' the RP8000s, you would need a Rane SL2, SL3, or SL4. The SX does not support Noisemap like the SZ does.

One thing that's trippin me out on my 8000's Is for some reason, I can't get the platter to be slippery enough.
Threw butter rugs on, still not slippery enough.

I have the same issue
I think my issue is the cvs. I can't get a good grip, it is heavy.
Old vinyl backspins and throws great

Is it telling me to back to the old school way? :)

Try turning down the torque.....

or....

Do what I do....

A light coat of Pledge sprayed on a rag and wiped onto the platter....

Then the Slip sheet goes on top of that....

Then the butter Rug goes on top of that.......

With heavy Picture Disc CVs.... it is so slippery sometimes that it losses traction.... lol
DjCity 2:19 PM - 12 May, 2014
Maybe.

The new cv just does not backspin well at all.
Every pair I have came ever so slightly warped.

I ordered some custom cv so I'm hoping those do the trick.

12inchskinz?

With the 2.0 CVs, one side (usually the 10min side up) is slipperier then other.

I'm gonna try that.
I have not had this problem in so many years, I've forgotten all the old school tricks.

Used to be you just had to use a little pledge, cut a piece of paper bag with a piece of record sleeve plastic and rock all night!

Gotta remember the basics!

Yes. It does.

heres my personal experiences with the vinyls.

Picture discs and Solid colors from Serato performanxce series.
- probably the thickest of all over them, good for straight mixing and the simplest cuts, im my collection i see quite a bit of mild warping and non-center spindle holes.
I use these mainly for dance sets.

2.5 Performance Series Pressed from Rane.
alot slicker, thinner, which seems to show itself in grosser varients of warping and concave/convex vinyls.... but still better for backspins cuts and juggles.

Customs.
you do sacrifice some performance with any vinyl that you remove the grooves from the B-side... (in essence how they do it)
95% of DJs would never ever notice it.
and the ones that do usually employ the pledge work-a-round.
Basically you need to create a slicker surface because without the record grooves air can not get between the cv and the slipmat, causeing it to "stick" to the wax paper, or slipmat.

for best (or slicker) performance you want a nice, thin flat record with a proper hole.
sounds like that should be standard> not saying anything prolific there.

My Personal Favorites for Performance are:
Rane 2.5 Blues (this pair is perfect)
Rane OG Whites (Super thin, and still a 2.0 tone... but thats ok)
Serato Neons These seem to work very very well for me and each one i have is cut perfect

Joshua Carl 7:57 PM - 12 May, 2014
that was something i picked up on my review....
(its been like a month since i shot it.... i know i know..)

but when you move the platter with that start button off (think of it like jump starting a car down a hill) and when you pop the clutch (ie press the start button) it grabs the gear and takes off (like u see in the video)

unlike the 1200.... iff you get the platter moving with the motor off and hit start it just adjusts and starts spinning with 0 adjustment.

i found this completely by accident when trying to figure out a work around for a power-ff wind-down (which isnt the best idea to do with the 8k, it shuts off the midi dialog)
your better off dropping the brake/torque all the way down, and hitting the start stop button

educate your self man...you always need a serato certified mixer, controller or sound card to unlock the software...the cheapest being the new AKAI AMX for Serato DJ...you may also want to invest in a DVS enabled controller like the ddj-sx2 etc if you go that route for use with these reloops

The reloops are accessories

What? Doesn't the rca cables and how you hook it up decide that? I'm not understanding where you are coming from. I would like to connect the 8000 as my third TT to my sl-3 but I'm wondering if you can transfer all the serato goodies that are on the 8000 to the mk5's, besides the pads of course. Is this possible? How do you do it? Reloop's website is very vague about this. It says you can have up to 4 devices and just 1 8000, but does not explain how it works.

There are several videos from the Official Reloop You Tube page explaining this....

But what he is saying about telling the turntable.... The Reloops can be "Daisy Chained" together meaning that they can connect to each other and 1 "Master" Reloop is plugged into your computer..... By Default, that "master" turntable is set as the "Left" or "Channel 1" turntable..... All this does is control of the Midi pads and not the audio

But..... lets just say the laptop can't reach the USB plug all the way over to the left side of your set up and you have to plug your laptop into your "Right"..... By default the pads on the Right would trigger the cue points on the left so you will have to Set the turntable to control Midi Functions on the right.

Now I think what you are trying to do is have a set up thats 2 Technics 1200 and 1 Reloop RP 8000 correct? And I think you are asking if you could set that 1 Reloop RP 8000 to control all the midi functions of all the decks correct?

If thats so I guess you can midi map the "User" mode function to control aspects of the other decks.
PopRoXxX 12:46 AM - 6 October, 2014
Maybe I'm not understanding you.

You can link up to 4 8000's. That's what I thought you were asking about.

They hook up similar to the dicers. Whatever table is plugged into the computer, by default, is deck one. But you can change that, since you can hook up four of them. After you hook them all up, hold down the trax knob for three seconds until you see the digital Pitch display show you what deck it's on. When this happens you can turn the knob to assign it to what deck you want it to be.

Nice! Good looking out Mighty Dragon Sounds.

If you're running SDJ, the 'User' mode on them is Slicer mode by default. But I also haven't tried playing around and seeing if I could change it, as I also like to toy around with the Slicer

antimatter
You could run dicers on the 2 Techs and assign the Reloop 8000 to Deck 3 with the Trax knob (since it will think its deck one being directly plugged in without daisy-chaining) and you will have decent amount of control on all decks. Just a thought
antimatter 1:45 PM - 6 October, 2014
Thank you for the answers. I really appreciate it. My midi and mixing board were borrowed from someone I thought I knew but got addicted to oxy and from what I have heard from friends pretty much kiss them goodbye because he stole from them as well. I thought this might be a good way to get the midi part back and add a third TT. I also thought my mixer would mesh well with it.

I have switched over to the SDJ 1.7 though and there seems to be allot more you can play with than on the ssl. I also have the rp-6000 as the third deck and really like it so I think I will hang with this for a while before taking the plunge. I also think we might see a price war between the rp-6000-8000 and the pioneer plz-1000 which to me is way over priced for what it looks like. It looks like you get a better tonearm and platter with the pio (I think they bought the rights from Panasonic) but that's all I see over the reloop and everything else looks hanpin/pioneer. Nearly same specs and way more features (shoot my 6000 has more features and was $400 new) on the 8000 def. has me leaning their way but I probably should try the pio.

Too bad Serato will probably never embrace control of multiple 'decks' from one controller/turntable. (unless thats in SDJ?)

Thats lame to me. I know it might be "confusing" to switch between decks and the table speed would be offset or whatever to make it work - but they should do it.
WarpNote 8:45 PM - 31 January, 2015
I agree AKIEM, would be really nice to have,
maybe they could make some pitch max/min takeover system, like for the V7....

I got to admit I seldom do more than 2 decks, but It's nice to experiement with.
Did hook up rca splitters to try it at some point. It was a lot of int/rel switching though = not so workable.... -> www.flickr.com

I did buy the DDJ-SX later, so not been messing with the split cables much since...
AKIEM 7:13 PM - 1 February, 2015
Maybe I should look into a V7. Ive got a lot more items to play with once I get the 57MKII tho. But the V7 works that way, I dont see why that wont work with DVS...

RCA splitters, nice. Nah, but at one point I was considering trying to build a switcher which also sent a midi signal to switch rel/int. Sounds simple but would have been much more complicated especially for a half measure.

My theory is that because we now use software, symmetry is only an artifact from the analog days and developers should quit reenforcing it so much especially since these systems are for new users. If we can free ourselves from right/left we could control an unlimited number of tracks from a single controller.... true merger of live production and djing...

Reloop is cool because it can control 4 decks, but it would have been dope it it could switch on the fly... oh well. I still set it up to control two decks, just less functions.

I'm ocd about symmetry so that shit would drive me nuts. I need balance. Also, how would you switch hands when scratching if it were always on one side?
AKIEM 4:15 PM - 2 February, 2015
Quote:

I think its a software solution.

There should be a switch which lets you select and control any deck / channel from the same hardware. So it would be like setting all decks to INT mode while the one selected is being controlled by the hardware. And this should work for DVS which would have the inherent problem of the speed not matching - which could be dealt with.

Yes, I was too. When I first got the TTM57 I could not even handle using one rotary to select crates and the other to select songs. But I decided to break that mostly by practicing instant doubles. But I understood symmetry ocd is the cause of hardware/analog limitation we simply do not have anymore. I laugh every time I walk in guitar center (just bought a guitar yesterday) and see all the little symmetrical controllers which are all based on the analog/hardware limitations of the past. None of these decks need to be especially if they are for new DJs who have not yet developed that symmetry ocd

You could always scratch on one side. Or maybe a device with a fader on right and left, or you can rotate it - there are various solutions for that.

But consider - why do we scratch with the right and left, and not just pick a strong hand and instead spend so much time/energy to become ambidextrous?

No other musical instrument (mostly) is made that way, pianos arnt symmetrical, guitar players dont commonly flip it right and left - none of that makes any sense.

I agree with everything for the most part, but I struggled with guitar a lot. I would always switch the strings back and forth. Drove my mom nuts when I was a kid.

I aesthetically have issues with symmetry though. It goes with a lot of things. Just how objects are placed and shit. Got way better at it throughout the years and don't care as much these days, but the ambidextrous thing goes further though. Think of skateboarding, you gotta skate switch to go pro.

Yes. Thats why I think its more of a software solution. They could keep developing to acomidate both right and left handed, and even keep the possibility of wanted symmetry. And exceptional turntables could still freak it whichever way. That could be as simple as leaving the mixer and controller modular, set it up however you want - two decks with a mixer in the middle - but what about one deck with faders on each side?

I just think developers are stuck on some outdated concepts which end up as limitations and instilled in newer generations for no reason.

Its like when DAWs quit adhering to the limitations of analog signal flow all types of new things emerged.

Imagine Djng developed after computers where created we might be much more incline to think of songs just scrolling down a cue list and activating them rather than right left...

Anyone believe this is a viable replacement for 1200s?

yes I do because they are just as good. As long as you adjust a few settings
jamster????? 10:43 PM - 10 December, 2015
They are better but not better when it come to permanent life expectancy
But also you have to know how to adjust the tonearm and you are set to go

Or get the strip down version reloop 7000

I like torque style mixing . \

did I mention how stable & precise the RP-8000's are at mixing?, i have a pair 1210 mk5 (which I also love) and these the rp-8000s (straight arm) and they really hold the're pitch perfectly, i pitch'd up a tune went into the kitchen, made a coffee came back back to mix the tune in, expecting to adjust and re-cue and the beats but it was still pefectly locked in time, the best non technics decks ever!

So I had a pair of techs with removable straight arms and dicers inlayed made awhile back and sold them to buy the Reloop rp-8000's and I've had them for awhile now and love them. My question is does anyone know if it's possible to use the 8 midi buttons to simulate the same melodic buttons on a controller one, maybe with Pitch and Time? thanks for any help.

Done just before the +/- key change plug-in got added. Basically played a scale with a synth and sampled it. Then set the cue points for each note. I imagine the same can be now done with new key feature but with just one cue point.

after a full year of use of the rp8000. I can't share the same enthusiasm. I still prefer the 1200's. If the rebirth of Technics produces a 1200 with digital pitch, reverse, and a set of MIDI pads. I'll make the switch. Unless of course I can find a controller one for a realistic price. I've seen a single deck go for 2k to10k... good luck with that! LOL

The s-shape just likes to skip... I can't say the same about 1200's.... and the 8000's platter really turns into an echo chamber with the slightest taps on a record. Probably has to do with the metal chassis and all that open space underneath the platter. Besides that....I just couldn't find a torque setting that emulated the feel of a 1200. If I dial in a similar setting it takes time for the record to catch back up to speed unlike a 1200. Although I do prefer beat matching on 8000's because the pitch percentage seems more consistent.

Try the torque setting around 12 o'clock (80-81). Did wonders for me! Never have had one problem with my 8000's after putting my M3D's and MK5's into home retirement. The new tonearm weight that Reloop put out is also much better too
