Biography
I thought about it for a year first, maybe longer. I stopped buying vinyl for that long. I thought about all the advantages and the single disadvantage.* I made the decision to sometime around my 27th. I broke the bank getting my hardware and G5, but I figure it's worth it because of all the money I'll save not buying records.** It's just what I needed to free me from the analogue would.
I love records, but I also live in a New York apartment.
I spin Hip Hop. But I always wanted to branch out into different styles. Now I can.
SSL is probably the most cost-effective investment for a DJ living and gigging in NYC. You can literally gig around town with a small bag. I have my 13" macbook, a 500GB firewire drive and my SSL box... that's all I'd need to rock any party, as long as there's a house setup.
I'm in it for the fun of it. A weekend warrior if you're judging. I don't spin for free: gas, grass or ass - nobody rides for free.

*-All MP3s sound like pooh compared to fresh vinyl.
**-Not that I steal, but my mp3 / cd collection has less metric volume and is more extensive. It's easier to find new songs on a whim. There's no more need for a vinyl press, in fact, quite the opposite. Now I have to rip my vinyl.
