Biography

The son of Jamaican parents, DJ K-Swyft (a.k.a. The Bronx Blend King) was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 7, 1975 as Kemuel Johnson and received his first set of turntables at age 8. Born into a family of music lovers and musicians, it was inevitable for K-Swyft to dive into the art that he once considered a hobby. He was influenced by his older brothers (Rich and Negus) who were also DJs�¢�¦. in addition to early New York hip-hop DJs such as Brucie B, DJ Red Alert, Mr. Magic, and Chuck Chillout. Upon moving from Brooklyn to the Bronx, K-Swyft started to perfect his craft with the help of neighborhood DJs in the BX such as DJ Solo and DJ Paul Smooth while growing up. He also looked up to DJs such as The Bounce Master DJ Doo Wop, DJ Ron G, DJ Dirty Harry, Action Pac, New Jersey�¢s DJ Juice, and DJ Funk Master Flex (just to name a few). K-Swyft is a child of the 1980�¢s and had the privilege to witness the birth of hip-hop while growing up in the Bronx. As he states, �¢during those times, you were a rapper, DJ, and/or break-dancer�¢. K-Swyft chose to pursue them all as a youngster, but never stopped DJ�¢n.

You can find DJ K-Swyft up and down the East Coast spinning the best of Rap, R&B, Reggae, and Old School Classics at different events and venues. As K-Swyft states, �¢whether I�¢m in a club, performing at a private function, or holding down my Blue and White family (Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc./Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.)�¢�¦..I put in 110% to rock the crowd�¢. Originally from the Bronx, NY, K-Swyft now resides in the Maryland area after settling down after undergraduate and graduate school. He is known for his creative series of �¢Blend Madness�¢ CDs where he remixes acappellas with different instrumentals (you can listen to some of his CDs at www.djkswyft.com). Lately, he has worked on projects with DJ Dayvoe (a fellow DJ from the Bronx who now resides in Charlotte, NC) and plans on working with a host of other talented DJs and promoters to add to his list. His projects can be found all over the internet with rave reviews.

When asked about his inspiration to get on local radio K-Swyft stated that, �¢I like to play by my own rules. Meaning I don�¢t want someone to dictate my daily rotation or curb what I want to say or have the audience hear�¢. We all know that the radio plays the same stuff all day and that isn�¢t K-Swyft�¢s cup of tea.

DJ K-Swyft supplies us with a breath of fresh air in regards to playing what the crowd wants to hear. He knows what to play and when to play it, causing him to stand out and not be compared to the average disc jockey.
