Biography
Since around the age of 10 music has had a strong influence in Abe "A-Beatz" Delgado's life. He took an instant liking to the old-school turntable and 8-track player his mother had just bought, and began mimicking the scratching and mixing he frequently heard on DJ Red Alert's show on New York's Kiss FM. This would eventually pave the way to his future endeavors in music.
At 15 he bought his very first DJ turntable and began buying records with whatever money he would get. He would eventually buy a complete DJ set-up and started making mixtapes and selling them in his neighborhood and to friends. After getting accepted to Marymount Manhattan College he immediately began DJ'ing at the college radio station W.M.M.C., which broadcast to the local area and gained a small fanbase. This lead to being the go-to DJ for the M.M.C. parties, and also local house and loft parties in his neighborhood. From there he started spinning at various bars in the east and west village including Baraza, Orchard Bar, and Rivertown Lounge.
After about 7 years DJ'ing A-Beatz took the next step and began creating his own music. It was around this time he met his current music partner Yobalni "Hazi" Puello forming the production duo "Illyjackz" and started making soulful but rugged Hip-Hop & R-n-B beats. With combined musical backgrounds and interests in Funk, Soul, Merengue, Salsa, House, Rock, Reggaeton, and classic Spanish R-n-B, Hazi and A-Beatz creations were influenced by many genres. A-Beatz says "It's so important to be open-minded to all different types of music. When you create beats like we do, it really does come out in the music you make".
Illyjackz credit many artists in ultimately inspiring and shaping the Illyjackz "sound". Nowadays you can look through their vast combined vinyl collection and find classic albums from iconic artists like Jimmy Hendrix, Julio Iglesias, La Lupe, Herb Alpert, Santana, Nina Simone, Public Enemy, The Jimmy Castor Bunch, RUN DMC and many more.
Together they have produced various released tracks including "Holla at the Kid" a song on independent Hip-Hop artist Rone's mix-tape which ended up moving roughly 6000 copies.
Revisiting his radio-host/DJ aspirations A-Beatz began 2008 with a bang by hosting, DJ'ing, producing, and editing "The Dig'em Show" on WWW.WTNRRADIO.COM (WeTakeNoRequests Radio) an internet radio station with a vast and growing international audience. The weekly music variety show not only broke the stations' record with 5 shows in the top 20 but posted the #1 and #2 most listened to shows in its debut season.
For the fall season of 2008, the dominance of The Digem Show subsided, which typically happens at the station as new shows and talent appear. For this ratings period The Digem Show posted only one show on the ratings list but came in at #5 in the top 20, demonstrating its continued relevance and popularity.
More importantly, A-Beatz continued to broaden his experience as a radio host. For the 2008 VH-1 Hip-Hop Honors he was granted access to the red carpet to represent WTNRRADIO.COM and interviewed many of Hip-Hops finest artists including EMPDs Eric Sermon, MC Lyte, Kevin Liles, Whodini, and Fat Joe. Moreover, A-Beatz also conducted extensive and exclusive 1 on 1 interviews with legendary MC Freddie Foxxx (Bumpy Knuckles), Danny Castro (Lyricist Lounge), and critically acclaimed and world reknowned MC Talib Kweli.
In mid 2009, having already completed in depth interviews with dancer/choreographer Vergi Rodriguez, congressional candidate Kevin Powell, and with more on the way, A-Beatz and The Digem Show seem poised to raise many more eyebrows and continue to expand the awareness of the growing medium of internet radio.
Furthermore, Abraham also did extensive voice-over work for the upcoming 2010 movie "La Soga" starring Manny Perez & Paul Calderon.
For 2010's Fashion Week in NYC he arranged and mixed the music for the LuLu Clothing Runway Exhibition by M. Henriquez. In 2011 While having a weekly residency at Odyssea Bar in Williamsburg Brooklyn, WTNRRADIO launched Brooklyn Underground Live a comedy-variety TV program and A-Beatz served as musical director and DJ for 2 episodes.
2012 saw the busy DJ moving to the party haven of Miami, and spun for the Winter Music Conference at Whitelaw Bar & Lounge in March, and also the NSCRA a racing competition now in its 4th year. All this while joining another popular and growing internet radio station Fuerza 94.3. Time will only tell what he will tackle next.
