How to: Adjust the touch sensitivity of the Vestax VCI-300

Adjusting the touch sensitivity of the Vestax VCI-300

The Vestax VCI-300 features touch sensitive platters, allowing tighter and more realistic control of your tracks. On the rear of the VCI-300, there are two touch sensor level screws, which allow you to set the sensitivity of the VCi-300 platters.

It is important to adjust the sensors before you play, to make sure they respond correctly to your touch.

NOTE: The VCI-300MKII has Touch Sensor Level dials rather than screws.

Here is how to do it:

Using a screw driver, carefully turn the touch sensor level screws at the back of the VCI-300. For normal operation, the platters should glow blue for normal playback, and glow red when touched and scratched.

When the screws are turned all the way clockwise (to the right), the platters will be at their most sensitive, and will glow red without even being touched. The platters will appear "frozen". This is obviously not good, as tracks wont play.

This is shown below -  the platter is glowing red, without it even being touched:

High Sensitivity

When the screws are turned all the way anti-clockwise (to the left), the platters will be at their least sensitive, and won't respond to touch at all, even when pressed hard.

In the image below, the platters are not sensitive enough - touching the platter is not detected:

Using trial and error, find the "sweet spot" - the platter should glow red when touched, but glow blue at all other times.

Correct adjustment is shown below:

Correct calibration - The platter should glow blue when playing

Incorrect adjustment is shown below:

There you have it - you're now ready to start mixing!
