When the controller is not connected to the computer and i open any of the serato applications it dosen't crash as soon as i connect it, a window opens saying serato dj has stopped working check online for a solution and close program or close program.
I finally figured out what's causing it, if you have more than 20 000 files in serato dj and more than 25 000 files in serato itch it crashes when the controller is connected. I have over 50 000 files on my harddrive, I would like to beable to play them all at any giving time, there are other software out there that allows me to do so with my ddj s1, so i don't see any reason why Serato can't do it.

This might be the case for you. But these numbers "20,000, 25,000" are specific to your computer. There are a lot of variables that will have an affect on these numbers.

1. How are your music files organised on your harddrive?
-- Are they organised by iTunes into many folders?
-- IE: C:/Music/iTunes/iTunesMedia/Tunename.mp3?

If this is the case, Serato may be finding it to hard to locate your music files, due to it having to search through so many folders. (this increases how hard your CPU has to work).
-- Unorganised files slow computer performance down in general.
-- Having less folders IE: C:/Music/May2013/Tunename.mp3
-- Means you only have 12x folders per year a lot less for your computer to search through.

2. Are your music files on an external hard drive?
-- How big is the drive?
-- How much free space do you have on the drive?
-- How is the drive connected? (usb / firewire)
-- How fast does the drive spin? (read&write)

3. Do you use any other USB devices?
4. Have you tried all available USB ports?

5. Can you send me your full computer specs please?
-- RIGHT-Click your MY COMPUTER icon and select PROPERTIES.
-- Copy this information back here.

Thanks :)

Hey Mr Vyrus,

Thanks for that information,

1. How big is your Serato Music Library? (how many gigs)

Hey Mr Vyrus,

Thanks for that information,

Serato applications run off a 32bit platform. This means they can only utilise a certain amount of RAM / Virtual Memory space (regardless of what your computer may have installed).

We are working extremely hard on library management and this will only improve overtime. But currently the best option you have if you want to run ITCH is to cut back your library size.

1. If you cut back on subfolders and crates you will be able to run a slightly larger library.
-- Again, this will be specific to your computer.

We can try the following test (removing all the crates from the equation, to see if its possible to run all files),

1. Launch ITCH with your controller disconnected.
2. Create a crate called "My Serato Library"
3. Click the ALL button.
4. Highlight all your music files in your library.
5. Drag them ALL to the new crate "My Serato Library"
6. Close ITCH.
7. Navigate to your internal hard drives _SERATO_ folder.
-- This will be located in your MUSIC folder.
8. Inside this folder will be a SUBCRATES folder. Open this folder.
9. Locate the "My Serato Library.crate" file.
10. Copy this file to your desktop.
11. Rename the _SERATO_ folder "_SERATO_Current"
12. Launch ITCH with your controller disconnected.
13. Close ITCH.
14. Navigate back to your MUSIC folder.
-- You will notice a new _SERATO_ folder has been created.
15. Open the folder and create a folder called "Subcrates"
16. Navigate to your desktop and move that "My Serato Library" crate into this subcrates folder.
17. Connect your DDJ-S1 controller and launch ITCH.

Does your controller connect with ITCH and can you mix all your music?

TO GET YOUR OLD LIBRARY BACK.
1. Close ITCH.
2. Navigate to your internal hard drives MUSIC folder.
-- You will notice a new _SERATO_ folder has been created.
3. Delete this folder.
4. Locate your "_SERATO_Curent" folder.
5. Rename this folder back to "_SERATO_".
6. Launch ITCH.

Your original library will now be back.

Let me know how you get on :)

Thanks.
