So I've heard differently from various DJ's but can Scratch play any music purchased from iTunes?

No, most iTunes files are DRM protected and cannot be played in SSL. The exception are iTunes Plus+ files, which are DRM free and can be played in SSL. Plus files have a "+" symbol next to the price in the iTunes store.
