Disgusting distortion and bridge help section broken

stevie o 11:37 PM - 3 April, 2013
There's a horrible grumbling and distortion when using bridge. I'm on ableton 9 and ssl 2.4.4
I tried to post this in the help section but
1) it doesn't give an option to list ableton 9 as version
2) logs me out of the forum when selecting ssl hardware tab.
I have been using bridge since its inception so I'm not a noob fumbling around on how to get it to work. It just started happening recently.

Good times

hummm.... what serato box are you using? is audio running out of it?
stevie o 12:58 PM - 4 April, 2013
No box. 57sl

You're gonna need to be more specific.

Where's the noise coming from? Both channels? Just one?

Is it only when syncing? Or when using the ATC?

Does happen constantly or when playback stops?

Does it happen when you play Ableton audio directly without the Bridge enabled?

Etc...
stevie o 3:38 PM - 4 April, 2013
Both channels whenever using any clip in ableton thru serato. Ableton is set to run thru serato sound card in preferences. It's a clipping sound. I tried lowering all volume faders and disarming any effects. Still nothing. It sounds like an overload that serato can't handle. As if there's too much CPU being used. Best way to describe it is The sound speakers make when being pushes in the red and about to blow. But I never run in the red so that's not it

Only time I've ever gotten that sound is when my audio cables weren't plugged completely in. Maybe run through your connections just to kill off that possibility.

If you now go back to Live 8 does it persist? Or is it just with 9?

What connections? Ableton runs internally into sera to. Serato audio sounds perfect so no connection problems there. Since ableton clips are being distorted and running through serato sound card, then I can come to the conclusion that its a ableton bridge problem. Or a serato problem handling audio from ableton. Makes sense since both companies abandoned the bridge and dont update or give a shit about it. Thats why many people are leaving to go to traktor for the remix dek integration. I don't ever want to leave sera to. I love ableton and serato and would love for the bridge to be perfected.

I will try that. Even if it works I still want to use ableton 9.

I was referring to the audio cables from the mixer, yeah if Serato sounds fine it isn't the cables.

Are you running the audio from within the Ableton program or are you using the Ableton tab in Serato to run the files?
stevie o 12:05 AM - 5 April, 2013
Running ableton inside serato. It works fine if I use ableton as a standalone.

Maybe the auto gain is messing with your levels?

Are the volume faders jacked in "Ableton View" on the Serato side?

Try a new Ableton Live set to further narrow down where the problem is.

You are not alone.

That was first thing I did. All levels are good.
You are not alone.

Ditto, I've had nothing but issues with 9 though. I know they'll fix the shit but as of right now 9 is still in beta as far as I am concerned it so damn unstable.

Try it with 8 if you didn't already and see if it is just another Live 9 bug.

Have you tried with 9.0.4?
stevie o 2:58 AM - 14 May, 2013
not yet

I had the same issue and this is how I resolved it.
Check to see that your sampling rate isn't at 96khz on the SL4. I changed this to 48Khz and the distortion disappeared. I also set the driver type in Live 9.0.4 to Serato and the Audio Device to Serato Virtual (Audio Device 0in, 2Out).

I hope this helps.

Ya i don't think ableton supports 96k, plug that a lot of info to send down a single USB2.0 cable.
stevie o 3:11 PM - 3 June, 2013
I don't have an sl4

Hi there, I have a 57 too, and had the same problem once until I changed the usb audio buffer size in the hardware section of the setup preferences in Serato. I am guessing that your usb buffer size is set to a low setting which will cause strain on your computer cpu resulting in the distortion you are hearing.... if you increase the usb audio buffer size it will improve your audio playback and hopefully remedy the problem. Good luck bro, hope this helps :)
