I am having crashing issues during startup and shutdown which I have found to come from the subcrates and library.

I reverted to version 2.2 on PC solved the issue there.
I would like to revert to VER 2.2 on my MAC but am unable to download a file that works from the website.

The website at:
serato.com
only provides a 8.6kb file which give an error when trying to open the ZIP file. All the other version's installer is in the neighborhood of 10 MB.

Can someone please provide me with an installer for VER 2.2 ?

Hey Ta-Bar-Nick,

Thanks for getting in touch,

Do you use iTunes to organise your music?
Do you use any external hard drives to organise your music?
-- How big is the external drive?
-- Is it just used for music files?

If you rather roll back to a previous version I have attached ITCH 2.2. to this thread.

Thanks :)

Hi Jamie,

I do NOT use ITunes to organize. I use my folder structure which is named after the genre of music contained in the folder.

I use an external hard drive contains all only music and Serato library. This hard drive is used on a MAC for performing and PC for preparation. It is formatted in EXFat. The model of the enclosure is VANTEC NST-400MX-SR with 2x 2TB hard drives in RAID 0.

I have erased my library and started from zero. I still found the crashing upon exit issue on the latest version on MAC and PC.

I need the VERSION 2.2 install for MAC. You gave me the version for windows.

SORRY the hard drive is RAID 1 = MIRRORED.

Hey Ta-Bar-Nick,

My mistake. Here is ITCH 2.2 for MAC --> serato.com

So you are running a 4TB external hard drive?
Thats 4000GBs Serato is having to search through every time you plug in your external drive. I think this is your issue...

I have looked into the Vantec NST.
-- It looks to be more of a storage drive then something used for performance?
-- Do you know what kind of hard drives you have installed and their performance ratings?

When using external drives for audio / visual performance you need to think about how fast the external drive spins "Reads & Writes" information.

At the moment,
-- Serato has to look through 4000GBs.
-- Locate the file.
-- Send it from the external to your computer.
-- From your computer through the USB cable to your controller.

All of this takes time, and if the external drive is big and not designed for performance then you can run into issues like freezing / crashing.

I would suggest a smaller external drive.
Something like --> www.wdc.com

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask :)

Thanks.

Hi Jamie,

The problem on PC and MAC I was having before the revert to VER 2.2 was:
During shut down ITCH would crash and not save any of the library changes. This problem persisted on the PC and the MAC even after I wiped the library and added a minimal amount of files. I solved this by reverting to VER 2.2.

I made a typo in my last email. I have a 2 x 2TB RAID 1 (MIRRORED) for a total of 2TB of storage. The drives are Hitachi deskstar 0F10311 (7200 RPM 32MB Cache). They are not server RAID drives but I think that they can pump out something decent. Theoretically, RAID 1 should provide approximately the same performance gain as RAID 0 during READ since half of the data can be read from one disk and the other half from the other. I am uncertain if the enclosure I am using does this.
The drive has 980 GB of music on it.
The drive is connected with E-SATA on both the PC and the MAC.
At the time I was having the problems described above I had about 30,000 tracks in the library. This represents about 20% of all the tracks on the drive.

A separate issue:
When the library was large (around 60,000 tracks) The PC was not able to load the library at all since it would crash with an out of memory error. I don't understand why ITCH would not be able to load the library on the PC with 6GB of memory on a WIN7 64bit. I made a report of this problem about a year ago and there were a couple of version changes since then but the problem was not resolved. You can find my reports

serato.com <-----MATHEW C
serato.com <-----PHIBS

With 60,000 tracks the MAC was able to load the library but I found the program to be slow to respond when changing crates.

The MAC does not have the library LOADING problem.

Your comments about the external hard drive do not make sense in light of the hard drive specs and quantity of tracks on the disk and in the library. Do you care to reformulate in light of the new information?

Thanks for the download on MAC.

Hey Ta-Bar-Nick,

I apologise I have not got back to you until now!

I think the main issue here is your library size.
-- It would be awesome if you could add endless amounts of music to your Serato Library, but unfortunately thats not possible.

Note: we are working hard on library management, Im confident this will improve overtime, but at this stage you have to run a library thats within the applications limits or you will run into issues.

Serato applications run off a 32bit platform, this means they can only utilise a certain amount of RAM / virtual memory space (regardless of having 8GB ram / the best computer specs).

Even if you are only using 20% of the external drives music.
-- Your MAC / PC still searches through the whole external drive.
-- When its connected to your MAC it will start to get indexed.
(Macs do this so when you search for files it can find them quickly)
-- The bigger the drive, the more indexing, the more CPU power & usb power required.

I would advise the following.

1. A smaller library.
2. A smaller external drive.

3. If you want to run a large library.
-- Have 1000 or so MAIN tunes on your internal hard drive.
-- Run a couple external hard drives with different genres on them.
-- Plug / Unplug external drives as you need them.

-- This will lower the stress on your CPU and hopefully allow you to run this large library.

If you have any further questions please feel free to ask :)

Thanks.

Hi Jamie,

I thank you for your suggestion regarding the library size.

I think we got a little off topic regarding the library size.

My original problem was not related to library size but was crashing during exit.
This problem occurred of PC with Version 2.2.2. At the outset of the problem my library was around 30000 tracks. I erased the library and started from zero. I added one folder with approximately 500 tracks. I still found the program crashed during exit when it was trying to write out the library changes to disk.

When I forced quit with task manager and found that the changes I made in the crates were not retained.

Hey Ta-Bar-Nick,

No problem.

I still recommend you cut your library back in size.
By doing so it will decrease the chances of these issues happening.
-- This should also get rid of your "lag" issue when searching for music etc...

Regarding crashing on exit, can we try the following please.

1. Disconnect all USB devices.
-- This includes external hard drives.
-- Wireless keyboards & mouses.

2. Connect your DDJ-S1.
3. Launch ITCH.
4. Create a crate.
5. Move 5 or so tunes to this crate.
6. Close ITCH.

Does it Itch close correctly without crashing?

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks.
