i'm not an ableton live pro, but i seem to have figured out how to see the automations for the program faders, knobs, etc with a 62. i get nothing on the master track with the crossfader automation. just a horizontal envelope. is this supported with my setup?

You should update to the latest build of Live 8 before you do anything else. 8.2 was released long before the 62.
Log in to Ableton.com and get 8.4.

so, i've tested the midi output of the mixer with some software. (cant remember which one, not on that computer right now). all knobs and faders seem to be working. i dont know why i dont see any CROSSfader input in ableton. I've got automation for HI, MID, LO, the up and down faders, etc. is this a question for the ableton forum?

Hey DJinkognito,
Thanks for getting in touch,
Lets try the following,
1. Reinstall Scratch Live 2.4.4. with your 62 mixer connected.
2. Reinstall the 62 audio drivers.
-- Download Here --> rane.com
3. Connect your 62 mixer to your MAC.
4. Launch Scratch Live
5. Start recording an ALS mixtape.
6. Move the crossfader back and forward.
7. Record for around 2minutes using both decks.
8. Stop the recording.
9. Give it a name and save it.
10. Close Scratch Live 2.4.4
11. Launch Ableton and open the ALS file.
Does the crossfader information now show up correctly?
If not can you please take a screenshot of what you see in Ableton Live and send it to me.
Thanks.

Hey Djinkognito,
Thanks for the image, I have attached an image to help you out.
Let me know how you get on.
1. Drop down the SPEAKER ON menu.
-- Under this menu you should see CROSSFADER.
-- Click this to view the crossfader automation information.
-- Refer to image.
Does this resolve the issue?
Thanks.

Hey Djinkognito,
Thanks for that information, its very weird indeed....
If we take a step back for a second...
1. Launch Scratch Live 2.4.4
2. Load a track to deck a.
3. Load a track to deck b.
4. Press play for each deck.
5. Push both channel faders up.
You should have audio going to your speakers now.
If you use the crossfader and move it back and forward, does it respond like it should? (cutting between tunes like a crossfader does)
Are you able to try use another computer?

yes the fader works as it should, including the curve. this same thing happened on another computer (PC) running ableton live. are there any more settings i need to concern myself with in ableton live?
Jamie W
5:50 AM - 15 April, 2013
Hey DJinkognito,
There are no settings inside Ableton you need to worry about.
Scratch Live creates the ALS file, Ableton reads the file created.
Can we try roll back to Scratch Live 2.4.2
-- Download Here --> serato.com
1. Download and Install Scratch 2.4.2
2. Try record a mixtape with this version.
Does the crossfader information now get recorded correctly?
Let me know how you get on :)
Thanks.

still a no go. is it starting to sound like a hardware problem? i wish i had another mixer to test
Jamie W
2:01 AM - 18 April, 2013
Hey DJinkognito,
Since you are having the same issue with 2 computers it is starting to sound like a hardware issue...
Can we please try the following,
1. Download and install Midi Monitor
--> www.snoize.com
2. Connect your Rane 62, power it on.
3. Put the crossfader hard against the RIGHThand side.
4. Launch Midi Monitor.
5. Slowly move the crossfader from the right all the way to the left hand side.
-- You should see Midi Monitor pickup midi messages.
-- 127 all the way down to 0.
-- Note if you move the fader to fast it can jump numbers.
-- Refer to my attached image for a sample of what you should be seeing.
If you dont see this information, the chances are midi messages are not being sent from the RANE 62 correctly.
Other things to try out,
1. Can we test a third computer?
2. Do you know anyone / any store you can go to and test record a ALS file again?
-- This would confirm its not Scratch saving the file incorrectly / Ableton not reading the information correctly.
-- It would point it back to the Rane 62.
3. Check you are not running the 64bit version of Ableton.
-- Make sure you are running the 32bit version.
-- In saying this I am pretty sure you are already running a 32bit version of Ableton, or "The Bridge" plugin will not be available. But double check this.
Let me know how you get on.
Thanks.

my data for crossfader says bank select whereas yours says 0
pgm1 says general purpose
pgm2 says portamento control
they're all picking up midi messages

Hey Djinkognito,
Are you able to take a screenshot of your Midi Monitor window so I can have a look at it?
Are you also able to record a 20second test ALS session, compress the folder and upload it to this thread? I will do some further testing and get back to you.
Thanks :)

Hey DJinkognito,
Thanks for sending through that information.
I have opened your ALS file here and I can see the crossfader automation?
I have attached an image to show you what I can see.
This is very strange....
I would suggest you try re-installing Ableton Live 8.
Let me know how you get on :)
Thanks!

Hey DJinkognito,
Thats very strange...
Its good to know that double clicking the file opens it correctly.
I would advise you continue to do this.
I have never dragged an ALS file into Ableton.
-- Just gave it a go, I am not able to drag an ALS file into the window?
-- I can however drag the ALS file onto the Ableton icon and it launches the session fine.
-- I would suggest you contact Ableton and let them know the issue you have when dragging the file ALS file into Ableton (Im sure they will appreciate it)
Since we have found a solution for your issue I will close this thread now.
If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.
Thanks.
