I was DJing this Friday at a lounge and had hooked up my Xone:DX as usual. Shortly into my first transition as I raised the volume fader up on the new track the 'Pinwheel' on the Mac came up and the LEDs on the Mixer just froze where they were and the sound sound stopped.
I went for another go. I option+Command+Escaped and quit Itch. Serato video was still running so I quit that also. I restarted Itch and started mixing again. Once again the first track played fine but as I lifted the volume fader to bring in the next track the program hung up again and the LEDs on the mixer froze again. That night I had to use my Serato Scratch Live SL3 box on internal Mode to make it through the night.

Saturday I tested the Xone:DX in my basement. No problems with the music, sound, or Serato Video.
I go into my Lounge on Saturday, set everything up. I load up Serato Video and I begin mixing. The first track goes just fine. Once again as I bring in the second tune the program freezes and the music stops. I then shut down the computer and decided to yet again use the SL3 box. That worked fine and saved my butt again for the night. The computer seems to work fine with the SL3.

I was able to save the error message from the crash with Itch.

One last thing to note, I had my board taken in for hardware repairs a while ago. It has performed fine since then but there is some type of loose screw rolling around in the Xone:DX.

hi wizdom.
i'm george & have also xone dx.
it's a mixer with lot's of problems like yours....
i've never have a problem when i changed the disk & the ram in my mac.
toshiba 500 gb 5400 rpm replaced by a wd black scorpio 750 gb 7200 rpm
& ram from 8 replaced to 16 gb.
from this time till now, xone dx is much better.....(that not means that the problems stop here)
but i think that the problem is not with serato....the problem my opinion is with the old and bad xone dx's mapping.

Hi George,
Yeah, this is frustrating. I just bought the DDJ-SX but I'm hoping the Xone:DX can still be salvaged because I love that mixer but it's performance has been bad (as far as the internal hardware is concerned).

I have 4 years this controller...4. 2 years u had problems all the time, till I change the things I told u before,in my Mac...but the problem is that this model's having old mapping & it's not easy 2 follow all the new controllers....I think that dx is a secondary solution.

Hey DJ Wizdom,

(I've attached the crash report in a text file for ease of navigation inside the thread. )

Does it only happen when using videos?
Does Serato Video crash or just ITCH, you did say that at one time Serato Video stayed open after your forced the quit?
When did you upgrade to ITCH 2.2.2?

Regards

Hey Dave,

1.) Yes, the crashes seemed to happen when I was mixing videos. In the first instance of the crash I was just using the audio from an mp4 file and then I transitioned to an mp3 file and the Allen&Heath Xone:DX mixer froze.

2.) The Waveforms would stop moving and the Mac "Pinwheel" appeared. I guess neither Itch or SL-Video technically crashed. But since I was in a live setting I have to force quit Itch and SL-Video so I could get the system back up and running.

3.) I tried to quit (using keyboard shortcut command + Q). I found that SL-Video wouldn't stop running (i.e., the application wouldn't shut down and go away so that I could re-launch it. It seemed to continue running in the background. Because of this, I then restarted the machine to start everything from scratch. After doing that though the exact same mixer freeze up (e.g., all LEDs lighting up) happened again on my second go round)

4.) I upgraded to Itch 2.2.2 last year. Probably near the end of the year. I have upgraded to Mountain Lion since then and I've been having all kinds of problems it seems. I never had any problems with Snow Leopard.

Hey Dave,
I bought a used Xone:DX to last me until I got the Pioneer DDJ-SX. I was playing out with it last night and as before when I started using music videos it froze up. Should I just give up on Itch and the Xone:DX?

Dave,
Did you ever get a diagnosis on that crash file I sent in? I've been reading that some of these crashes may have something to do with having a large library and a large number of crates. Perhaps I was exceeding the limit of the 32bit limits of the application.

Unfortunately the crash report didn't give us any helpful information to solve you issue. How much music do you have? How many songs? We could look at that possibility.
