Bridge and Serato DJ

DJ Serventi 6:53 PM - 26 February, 2013
Has Serato taken down Itch so that they could not be held accountable to making it compatible with Ableton and "The Bridge"? No where can I find that there will be any collaboration between Serato DJ and Ableton (Via The Bridge). Can we assume that this will be put on hold?

They never really where accountable to anyone to make that happen. Any mention of it coming was removed long time ago.

Serato will say something along the lines of;
"this is something we are looking to implement in the future, but there is no timeline for this to happen"

And thats no guarantee it will ever happen.

I would run with the assumption, at this point it is NEVER going to happen. Serato DJ and SSL combining is the next most prevalent long term rumor, but even if that does happen no guarantee bridge support will come to Serato DJ.

There is nothing stopping you from running Ableton at the same time, if your not doing video use a 2nd monitor to have live displayed on.

I would prefer Serato + Live, but if they leave me no choice... Sure I can launch them separately, but would need external hardware $$$ to synch them in term of clock BPM and transport functions.

Kills the whole i can DJ tables + synch ableton live and push buttons to my table scratching, etc...

Virtual DJ 8 will hopefully close that gap. And will support DDJ-SX as well, as it does many other controllers.
PoSiTiVeFloW 4:16 PM - 8 March, 2013
Yes, I know the sampler function on my DDJ-SX, yes I can launch time synched samples with the rubber-pads (ableton-like) on A/B in Serato... but I lose the extremely powerful integrated ableton live DAW.

The reason you want Serato + Ableton is for big shows where I want record / switch between DJ's and Live Bands seamlessly through multi-track setups.

I could do this as of Torq 2.0 on my Xponent, Presonus FireStudio, and Ableton 4 or 5 (back in 2007). Back when I could use Rewire protocol, to keep it all synched together.

How in 5-6 years have we decreased this functionality and built walls between synchable softwares? All to drive proprietary hardware sales??

I'm waiting patiently for DJ to be available for my Vestax VCI-380. Something which I sold my decks and SL-1 to buy. I'm just going to be very polite and to the point with this.

"Please, Serato, implement The Bridge for Ableton."

Thanks, love you x

I don't know if any of the Bridge developers are still at Serato.

This seemed to be a huge problem with Video SL, where eventually they had to completely rewrite it into Serato Video in order to be able to upgrade it. Adding the Bridge to SDJ or upgrading it probably looks to them like a mountain of effort for little reward, given how little it's used and how critical people have been of what it doesn't do.

Here is my take on all this. I would love, along with other DJ's, to have serato DJ and able ton work together, but it looks like Serato is dragging there feet on this one. I, along with other DJ's, bought the everything in hopes bridge would come to itch and that never happened. As much as I hate to do this I may have to go to Tractor Pro 2 and use Ableton thru midi, not the most ideal, but it does work and it is perfectly sync'd. Tractor, unlike Serato, sends out a midi clock so Ableton can sync with Tractor, why Serato can't do that? Only Serato can answer that question. Also DJ, around the globe have been asking for bridge with Itch and now DJ Pro, Serato seems to either ignore us to turn the other cheek. I hope I am wrong, but serato's response is never a promising one. Have a great day everyone.

What exactly are you using ableton for with traktor? I like to know how people are integrating daws
David Flores 3:15 PM - 5 April, 2013
As of right now I am not using tractor, but seriously thinking about it. But here a few things, that I got from a website:

So, why not just pick a platform and go with it? Why go through all the extra trouble of running two rather heavy apps at the same time? Well, running Live with Traktor has a number of advantages which are hard to do with either one alone:

Traktor’s browser can be completely controlled via MIDI, making your performance more handsfree.
Preparing tracks for playback in Traktor is a bit easier than in Live, which saves many hours of work.
Live is much more flexible when it comes to filters and effects, opening up possibilities far beyond the standard 3-band EQ and out-of-the-box effects Traktor offers.
Live supports audio plugins, and Traktor obviously does not. Again, more possibilities.
Traktor’s remix decks (introduced in 2.5) are quite limited compared to looping in Live.
Within Live you can build drum machines, samplers, etc.
However, using Traktor and Live together still allows one to play warped tracks within Live, or to use the 3-band EQ within Traktor (for example). Using both together combines the strengths of each platform, but with very few disadvantages. One disadvantage is the setup is a bit cumbersome but well worth it at the end.

I understand what ableton does. I use it everyday. Everything you said can be done with the bridge. Question is do you want to use serato or traktor. For me serato is much more user friendly especially with the browser, and using ableton with it is simple with bridge.
David Flores 7:30 PM - 5 April, 2013
Very true, but it seems that serato is dragging there feet for the bridge for anything except scratch live. I would love to stay with serato, but unless you go out and spend thousands of dollars for a DJ setup and hook up with scratch you won't get the bridge. It seems that serato does not want any user, except scratch live customers, to use a DAW with there software. Currently, Serato DJ does not even send out a midi clock. What kind of stuff is that. Ok, here is my take on all this Serato seems to take care of those that send 1000's to get the Cadillacs of software, and those that don't well they give you a bone to chew on to shut you up. Now as I said before I hope I am wrong with all this about serato and they are truly working on something, but as far as I can see and the numerous searches I do it is not even close.
stevie o 8:17 PM - 5 April, 2013
My opion and I pray it comes true soon because Im getting too old for this shit is...
Serato is working towards serato DJ being the flagship software and they will improve on and corner the market. If they incorporate all the solid features of sl and DJ and work on the sp6 functioning as remix decks with unlimited capabilities like ableton, the world will be a better place.

Is there any propper workaround to use Serato to DJ together with Ableton or even the NI Machine? Thanks for your replies :)
Code:E 6:15 PM - 27 April, 2013
not yet
Phil Coller 6:18 PM - 27 April, 2013
Ugh so I'm wondering about still using Traktor but actually I wanna avoid this cuz I like the clear Serato layout better :/
Code:E 6:38 PM - 27 April, 2013
any reason you need the to sync, Run a 2nd monitor put ableton up on it. map a controller (your Machine) to have knob control tempo. and maybe some pitch bend buttons. and then run the machine as a plugin to ableton live. and then watch this. :) www.djtechtools.com

thanks for the video Code:E. Have you found anything that can help your CDJ2000 Nexus to run with SSL, or are you still looking?

I only have the regular 2000's for now. I was going to buy the nexus but decied to hold off until HID mode. (or maybe just wait until the nexus are replaced in 2 more years and buy those right off the bat what ever they may be). I do have a wedding I need to pay for right now.

But I love HID on the CDJ2000's it is the only way I will play now.
