MFC 1 Foam Cover - I made something similar for $5

MrGoodie2shoes 10:22 AM - 14 August, 2008
I was a little pissed when I found out they make this thing and that with shipping it is $43. The UDG Creator bag is made to hold the 57, but yet you have to buy this accessory or it will get damaged. A quick trip to the dollar store, home depot, and less than 1/2 hour work and I came up with this. It works great. The straps were a buck from the dollar store, and the foam was just a few dollars for the entire sheet.

I actually used two sheets (unnecessary) one was 3/4 an inch to clear the faders/knobs, and the other was just 1/2 and used as a backing. I glued the two together and reinforced them with some tape. You would be fine just using the 3/4 inch sheet if you want. I used duct tape to hold the straps on and superglue to hold the two sheets together. Check it out.

Damn, can I just pay you to make me one? Cuz I sure as hell refuse to pay $35 for the MFC 1 that Rane produces. How the hell do they go thinking they should sell that piece of foam with straps for $35?

Thanks for the idea, though, MrGoodie.

$10 + two to three hours of time spent getting the material and putting it together + gas money spent driving to the store.

I think I'd rather spend the $43 on the more professional looking product.

To each his own:)

Actually less than 1 hour for travel and making it...and I was watching the Dodger game on TV. I used the left over to protect my sp1200, mpc, trigger finger, and mics. Home Depot 1/2 a mile away, dollar store on the way to that. Don't care what it looks like - it's always in a bag.

And more importantly....I already spent more than $43 for the bag and it doesn't do what it is supposed to. As a matter of principle I won't fork over more money to a company that does that. The bag should be recalled and not advertised that it protects the 57. Without the foam I am better off carrying it without a case - that just ain't right.

yes, to each is own :)

It definitely is a matter of principle.

Personally if I'm paying that much money for a backpack which they claim was designed with protection of the 57sl in mind and it ends up causing damage, which it actually did to my mixer, (thank you Rane for servicing it)... then UDG should either recall it and fix it or provide the MFC 1 for free and eat the cost. All UDG creator bags should come with it from here on out in my opinion or at least a foam insert which is customizable for whatever mixer one decides to carry with them since they don't specifically call out the 57. Just my $0.025...

I agree the bag should come with it, otherwise...

I never understood what the rubber studs are for (bending knobs off?)
hope not

otherwise an excellent bag

I didn't even realize that the bag could actually cause damage to the mixer until just a few days ago. Thank God I didn't find out the hard way.

This is really disappointing considering the cost of the bag and the foam cover.

Yep, hate those rubber studs. I'm gonna look at getting them off tomorrow.

Yeah for the price of the bag you really should get the foam. Seriously, foam $40 plus. It does feel like they are trying to take advantage. ummmm seperate channel recording any news yet?

I pulled off the rubber studs with a vice-grip

I totally agree, the bag was so fu**ng expensive. They should be giving MFC1 for free. Especially to me people like me who lost 3 faders and 1 knob to the stupid bag.

I'm gonna do that today before I head off to my show.

Another gripe about the bag. the grips/handles for the zippers break really easy too - and I have hardly even used this bag.

The rubber studs should be on the opposite (bottom) side of the mixer, so they shouldn't be damaging knobs or faders... I love the bag other than the fact that I have to be so extra careful when packing the 57 so as not to cause damage to it. As far as everything else is concerned with the bag, I think it's the best one out there for DJ's! And I've used quite a few from shoulder strap bags to backpacks, etc.

I just cut the rivets/rubber studs off with a wire cutter. I like the bag a lot more now. So much easier to get my mixer in.
