hello, i have used the vestax 300 from when it first came out and never ever ever had a problem with it... i am an x professional dj but from time to time i still have gigs and fly to places to play.

So i saw the twitch... had my eye on for ages...and bought it friday as it was doscounted to £300. im am flying away on thursday and i have to say this bit of kit seem rubbish and im going to get my money back unless i can get some answers quick..

sound drops out all the time... and all kinds of weird things happen...

1. sound drops out, files stop playing for a few seconds at random times. semms no reason for them to drop... even drops playing just one track...

2. Headphones cue and drop out and not come back until suddenly it feels like it.. meanwhile panic sets in as you cant cue the next track..

3. the red leds are rubbish and near on impossible to check you levels on.

4. the fx dont seem to work very well... the fader fxs dont do anything if you use them it cuts the volume of the track as well so you can actually use the fx on the fader... totally rubbish compared to my vfx controller.

5. the fx on the master seems to be un reliable.. sometimes they work sometimes they dont..

6. when i close the program , more often than not it crashes and i loose the creates i just built and the history of tracks and cue point i just spent hours working on.

the above are the obvious... so as a professional dj about to fly away... this gives me no confidence at all...

not when you have a 5 hour set ahead of you..

please can you tell me is this itch 2.2.2 as soon as i upgraded i also had some problems with my old vestax 300.... never ever before had a problem...

but now i have twitch.... all the above issues happen all the time...

can some one help please... i have read the other issues with twitch.... and it seems i am not alone with the drop outs and glitches with the sounds...

thanks for your reply in advance.... i need help... im flying thursday and cannot take this bit of kit or pay £300 for a toy that does not work.

Cheers

looks like i'm not alone reading even more posts... im gonna try the original cd software that came with it and see if that helps..

as the first time i have had issues with both vci300 and now twitch is with updating to 2.2.2 and most seem to have problems with this upgrade..

hope this will fix issues...

any help anyone? please :)

cheers for all your advice Serato...

i went back to the 1.8 cd software that came with twitch... this seemed to put me back incontrol rather than the contoller doing as it pleased...

i was mixing and recording for over an hour thinking i had it sussed... was very happy chap as this bit of kit is really good fun...

then about just over 1 hour into the mix... i was thinking how great it was it had not had an audio drop...

then as i thought it... it bladdy had an audio drop.... right at the moment after i thought it..

how weird.. so its not totally fixed.. but better...

but a vast improvement on how it was the night before...

Serato... you have an awesome system... but when it does not work... we all forget how complex this gear is...

but what i dont get is... the older versions are more simple in many ways... and you just seem to make things more complex...

why not keep them simple... thats why i liked Serato in the first place...

so please can we have all the bugs fixed asap...

cheers

Phil

Hey Phil Moonface Thompson,

So sorry for the late response we have had a backlog of threads to get to. O.K i've read your thread and yes we have had issues with TWITCH but also with a fair few other controller also. Usually it's setting within the laptop however sometimes hardware related. We couldn't say until we first work through the basics together.

What are your system spec's?
Run through this quick optimization guide:
serato.com
Are you storing your music on an external drive?
Tell me about the external drive if so, RPM? Size? How much music you have stored on it?
What is your USB buffer set to?

Let me know and we can try and get these things sort asap.

i find it hard to believe its the computer issue when you change the controller all bugs appear...

then when you use and older software... even less bugs appear...

i use a 13" macbook 10.6.8 2Ghz intel core duo
2GB ram

no external Hard drive used..

you tell me what the buffer should be set at...??

like i said.. i had no problems until i upgraded to the latest software... then i had some crashes with my trusting vestax 300vci...

then i bought twitch and it was riddled with bugs.. so went back to the cd software that came with it and still some sound freezes... and other little bugs.,.. but nothing like with the latest itch upgrade...

its easy for you to say its the computer.... but nothing changed on this...

your upgrade had bugs straight away...

and twitch came with even more bugs...

so my thoughts are... its your software... as this is whats changed...

any news on fixing it please??

Thank you :)

Hey Phil Moonface Thompson,

Let's try and keep it simple and work through issues specifically.

If these are your computer spec's I'd advise firstly running through this optimization guide to help with the USB dropouts:
serato.com
Sounds to me that is the major issue here. But lets go through each of your above issues again and try and work on them individually or group them together if they are related.

Quote:
1. sound drops out, files stop playing for a few seconds at random times. semms no reason for them to drop... even drops playing just one track...

2. Headphones cue and drop out and not come back until suddenly it feels like it.. meanwhile panic sets in as you cant cue the next track..

Both these questions seem to be related to USB dropouts. In most cases we can find stability if we run through these steps.

Try a new USB cable, high quality recommended.
Increasing your 'USB Buffer Latency', try setting it between 10-20.
Running through the above optimization guide, and making sure all your setting there are correct.
Making sure you have no other programs running while using Serato ITCH.
Computer upgrade, your computer is on the lower end of the specifications chart but hopefully we can get some stability with your current setup.

3. the red leds are rubbish and near on impossible to check you levels on.

In which way are they not working for you? What did you like more about the Vestax VCI-300 LED meters on the controller? I don't believe there is much that can be done from a software point of view as this is a hardware related issue. Be good to know your thoughts on it though.

4. the fx dont seem to work very well... the fader fxs dont do anything if you use them it cuts the volume of the track as well so you can actually use the fx on the fader... totally rubbish compared to my vfx controller.

The Fader FX are very different to the VFX-1. That VFX-1 controller is dedicated to FX's and works very differently. Fader FX is a TWITCH feature that allows the deck Channel fader to become an effects control, varying the FX Depth for each deck directly.
Each deck may have an individual effect applied to the track playing on it, in addition to the effects programmed in the master FX section described above.
The volume should not change however the depth of the effect, depending on which you assign can change the volume as you move the fader; effecting the depth, Dry/Wet. For example Echo.

5. the fx on the master seems to be un reliable.. sometimes they work sometimes they dont..

Could you explain this in more detail please? Are you finding that they will not engage? Are the software effects not reacting or just not turning on? Do you see any change in the software when you are having these issues? Are there any FX in particular that are not working?

6. when i close the program , more often than not it crashes and i loose the creates i just built and the history of tracks and cue point i just spent hours working on.

There may have been changes made between updates which may have caused the DatabaseV2 to become unresponsive. Let's try rebuilding your Database and see if that helps.

Close all programs.

Go to your Music folder > _Serato_ > Rename your DatabaseV2 file to OLDDatabaseV2.
Reopen Serato ITCH.
Allow the 'reading of tags' and DatabaseV2 rebuild. Once this stops try closing the program again. Let me know what happens.

If you could go through these individually for me and come back on these, hopefully we can move forward and get some of these issues fixed and clarified.

Hey

We have two Twitch units running on four separate laptops and don't experience any of the issues described here.

Mine was purchased on day one and since then, the only issue I have is that it doesn't like the USB 3.0 ports on my Dell XPS. I get an issue where wave forms don't load and play can't be pressed on any deck. I just use the USB 2.0 and it's good to go.

The Fader FX work great so think there could be an issue with the system or database you're using as the latest version of Itch is pretty solid for me. I use the same library in Scratch to.

If you turn off the cue for the deck you're on you see the output for the Twitch and IIRC the top is 0db.

Serato DJ is coming soon to Twitch and that will give you an on screen VU meter too.

I'll have a look if I can replicate any of these symptoms for you but it does sounds like a buffer thing to me.

Hope any of this helps. Twitch is a pretty awesome bit of kit for the money and I rarely ever ran into a problem, even running video.
