am i the only one who is sick to death of hearing people complain that the BPM and matching tools are "killing the art" of dj'ing?
i am so sick of this $h1t. shut your mouth . geeze. am i right?
it's like this:
1. if you're god's gift to dj'ing and look down on everybody else, keep it to yourself, a pompous attitude is not becoming.
2. you arent gunna stop technology from advancing with all your bitching so save your breath.
do you hear tennis players complaining about graphite rackets? "oh, new rackets are corrupting the sport , everybody should use wooden ones"
SHUT YOUR MOUTHS, PANSIES.
(this is coming from someone who can match beats w/o 'new skool' tools, by the way. i just dont hate on people learning with what is available to them. )

You know, I've met with some of the best, most sucessful DJ's in the world, and most of them had far more in-control egos that some of the peeps on this board. They're soley focused on their own thing, not judging others and calling shit wack etc. It's a fact of life that %99 of products/features/anything won't be for you. Focus on the %1 that is.

sublimes..hmmm. O.k I'm done. I know when I'm not needed.I allowed myself to get painted in a box. I was out smarted, just tried to help. I feel some are threatend by me and conspired. I will take this lesson with me. It won't stop me from using the product. Have a good day.

LK I sure as hell wasn't talking about you in that post...
I don't consider what you posted in the other thread to be ego talking, I was referring to the peeps who post about how DJ's matching beats visually is lame and you're not real DJ's and all that, they need to focus more IMO...

Yeah Son, I respect them for the heads up. I knew it was coming when they changed management. But I'll get more contracts. But a the getting a BPm counter on SSL would be a plus, but I still use a stop watch and count the beats for 30 seconds then multiply by 2. I use to be like that.."oh technology..it's killing the art". I learned to embrace it and then use it to your advatage. You will not stop technology. I guess a certain amount of things will stay the same. When I got SSL, I was trying to get ahead of the curve because I'm no longer scared of computers. Turns out it's pretty simple. I know alot of people are going to be like I'm not keeping it real..but they like my cd's and don't what I'm using until I tell them. And when they see me they be staring at my stuff...like oh shit. I have converted a few people after they saw me, they ran out and bought SSL. Cause they know they can't stop technology.

Talking about this topic, I must say that before getting SSL I could beatmatch (house music) with my ears fine, but now with SSL I kind of got lazy and am using the graphics. When I go back to real vinyl it becomes harder to beatmatch than before... that's kind of scaring me because in a way i'm "losing the ear" that I have developed overtime, but I also like the beatmatching display because it let's me beatmatch faster leaving me with more freetime to focus on other aspects of the mix, do more creative things, and have more fun while mixing! Also when playing live, sometimes they don't put monitors, or you can't hear very well, and indeed the beatmatching display has saved me!
Are any of you going through the same?

I forgot to add, the other day at a party someone congratulated me and said my set and mixes were really good... then they said, "but I would like to hear you play without the computer thingie" ....as if SSL was a software auto-mix-dj.... yeah SSL does everything for me!! >:-[
I got offended with that comment.

Don't let ignorance get you down Diego...
I'd like to see them drop an exclusive remix without pressing a pricey dubplate...

yeah Diego, SSL is not an auto-mix program, the guy who told that to you is simply a lamer.
whats wrong with using technology to make smoother and flawless sets? we are here to make people to dance, not to show our ego.
an auto-mix feature will make djing boring... but using SSL we are still mixing touching the turntable and controlling the music with our hands. beat matching view just help us, it doesnt make our job.
keep on spining!

i cut out some thick paper and taped it to the top of my monitor so it folds down over the beatmatching view.. thats how i get around it for now

It doesn't bother me at all... honestly I can go either way, with or without the Beat display (I mixed org. vinyl with my SSL set's all the time)....HOWEVER, I will say this:
The party I played at 2 weeks ago (the one with all the snow?) I opened the night up and I was using SSL. Apparently our audio guys hadn't wired the sound right so while I was mixing, they were patching cables, cutting in and out sound (at one point my booth monitors went completely dead). I can mix in headphones, but without a blend between the cue and master, I find it way more difficult, and this mixer didn't have one of those. Thanks to SSL I was able to beat match perfectly by using the beat mix display to confirm my adjustments (i.e. hear a flange, look at the screen and I knew which way the song was drifing).
I think this is the best part of SSL, it's ability to pull you through mixes when chaos is erupting around you.
The first outdoor party I ever played (was about 5 years ago) the system had one booth, and it was only hooked up to the left stereo channel. Well that's wonderful when the freakin LEFT channel on the stylus's go out and you're trying to beatmatch by guaging the main floor's sound bouceing off's from the hills in the distance...I blew many o' mixes that day, SSL would have been a god send!

If you're ever in that situation again and don't have SSL just switch the turntable cables (put the left in the right jack on the mixer, and the right in the left jack).

If I had some nuts, hangin on the walls, what did I have honey?"
I said, "Darling you'd have some walnuts."
She said, "Well.. daddy if I had some nuts
on my chest, would those be chestnuts?"
I said, "Hell yes!"
She said, "Well daddy if I had nuts under my chin
would those be chin-nuts?"
I said, "Hell no bitch you'd have a dick in your mouth!"

You must've missed the part where I was saying this was my frist ever outdoor party ;) I was so scared playin infront of people I could barely set the needle down, let alone patch cables in the back! heh... it's good to reminise and see yourself so young and naive back then!

not to fuel any fires but hey bpm'ing is great...
music is different nowadays, spinning is not like it used to be where everyone was cool with dancing to a 7 minute song, while u set it up, then wait for the break.
there's SO MUCH new music now and everyone's ears are more open to hear different genres all mixed together, so ur crates are chock full of goodies...
besides,no one has an attention span longer than three minutes,,, so if u haven't got ur music together, you'll be lost... it just makes your job less of a hassle... u can concentrate on party rocking... and not having to worrying about beat matching.

Now if they could just creat a feature to help the 2/3 of the DJ's out there understand the concept of 4/4 and WHERE to drop a mix. Now that would be something... :)
