This is a sad story. I had a DDJ S1 for a year and I sold it because I experienced to many dropouts.
Since then I got a 57 and a new Mac and Im having no problem.
I got the MC2000 for small gigs and as a backup unit.
Every gig that i went with it I had at least 3-4 Dropouts (5hr gigs, song gets stuck for a sec). I tried all the tricks like I tried with the S1, Usb buffer, Formating my MAC and everything that I could.
Why is this happening? Why your controllers are not QA'd enough? Its my second controller and still experiencing this issues even with a new laptop. Please help me.

Typically a MIDI dropout is just that, a data interruption or delay due to the serial bus resources being overwhelmed. This is why there is an optimization guide that suggests you turn off other things using your serial BUS, like the built in WIFI on most laptops (they use this bus) and so forth. You have nothing else on the bus and the WIFI adapter is disabled on the hardware side? Even if you're not connected to a network, the WIFI adapter can still scan for networks in the background. On my setup stable power and isolating my bus to the MIDI only (no other serial devices used) has solidified my MIDI communications to the point where I just have zero issues. The other possibility is the controller bus power drops causing a transmission drop. Is this solely bus powered?

like i said, I did everything. turning off every thing I can on my MAC. It just keeps coming. and yesh it is solely bus powered

It could be the unit is pushing the brink of your particular USB bus power supply over time and it's throttling itself. Power regulators, used to provide USB power in PC's are designed to throttle or completely dropout when they get too hot. Not saying this is the case, just an example of how things we don't often think about can create the oddest issues. Denon didn't add the option for outboard power supply, so it was assumed this was tested, but even old cables can cause current supply issues. It still sounds an aweful lot like a resource spike, which won't always be reflected by the CPU meter. Try these two things before you give up on it.

1) Next time it does this, look down at the HD activity LED on the laptop immeadiately; Is it going ape shit? When it stops doing this, how is the indicator behaving now? If the HD is a SATA that is a Serial bus drive, even SSD SATA's are on the Serial bus. Heavy spikes in HD demand can overwhelm this process. It's unusual, but I presume it can happen.

2) A USB 2.0 POWERED HUB. This will add provisional power to the unit from a source other than your laptops USB bus. Hey, hardware varies in consumer electronics and just because one unit requires X amount of power, doesn't mean the next will. My VAIO won't bus power my VCI - at ALL. It just sits there and cycles the power. I attribute it to a weak bus supply in that model, it works fine in my other laptops. I use outboard power now, but that's a good example. Try and look for a hub with a 1 amp or greater wall supply in the package.

Report back as you find things, because it could help others and there's nothing wrong with that :)

Thanks for the help.
The CPU meter is below half and is staying there, so i dont see that as a problem.
about the powered hub - ill try that, although when I had this issues with my S1 it was connected to a power source, but hey, who knows?
on thursday I have a gig ill try connecting it to a hub (I have a good one) will report my findings this weekend!

Remember, HD LED, not CPU will be your focus during the event. That would suggest a TSR program demanding thread priority somewhere. So odd to have this issue on two MIDI's on a MAC. Good luck this weekend!

Hi Dj Roth,

Just jumping in here to also suggest that pushing the limiter in ITCH can cause dropouts.
Definitely something to watch in ITCH that doesn't exist in SSL.

Let me know how it goes this weekend and thank you to FabulousFrequencies for the sound advice.

Okay I re-opened this.
First off, This problem still happens, I tested it for 5 gigs and everytime I had 1-2 Dropouts.
Theres no warning message, Cpu meter is green (A little below the half), the program just freezes for half a sec and also the music, and then it comes back. no warning, on the top right theres no sign of the red dot or anything.
any suggestions?

Hi Dj Roth,

We just released a new version of Serato DJ last week, Have you had a chance to download that and give it a try?

Yeah forgot to say that, I did upgraded the day it came out. There was some performance improvements (it runs way smoother) but the dropouts are still there

Hi Dj Roth,

sorry to hear you are still having issues. Can you let me know if this is happening when you do something particular like load a track or effect etc. I'd like to know as much as i can to get a solid reproduction of this bug.

Hi Matt, No its happening randomly, I wish I knew what was causing it but its happening for too many people.
I know so many people with serato dj (not only mc2000) and everyone experience this drop outs, with pc or mac doesnt matter, it happens.
i tried increasing the latency to the max but no luck.
Honestly? I think there is a problem with them software - hardware integration. If I had this since ITCH with a different controller and laptop then there is something wrong here.

Hi Dj Roth,

I'm sorry you feel this way about Serato DJ. Unfortunately bugs like this are hard to pinpoint. But ultimately we need to isolate things that are causing the issue.
Can you upload any crash reports or anything like that? have you adjusted the energy saver settings to not turn the hard disk to sleep when possible in the system preferences ?

I dont have crash reports cause the software is not crashing.
and yes ofcourse i did all the power saving stuff
