i think i've heard mention of iTunes and rating, however, i am not an iTunes user, and am not familiar w/iTunes at all.
My suggestion for SSL would be to add a feature that would allow you to rate (1-5 stars) mp3s while spinning, and have the rating saved to id3 .
my reasoning for this is as follows: with thousands of mp3s, even sorted into crates, its impossible to remember crowd response to each song. so if you try a new track out at a club and the response is poor , you can rate it, and next time you wont play that track again.
just my 2cents.

sounds good to me. a few other people have asked for rating integration as well... as far as I know it's being discussed at the ssl team.
in the meantime, if you're not using itunes, i would give it a try because you can make this idea work for you. what i'd do is when a track bombed, stick that track into a "crap" crate for later review in itunes (expanding on this idea further you could make multiple crates for stars 1 through 5 then give your rating). the rating integration with ssl isn't here (yet) but you can use smart playlists in itunes to make playlists, which will show up in ssl.

wait, is it possible to rearrange crates, while playing? i suppose maybe it is..
however, i'm running a toshiba satelite with a 2.4 p4, and 512 ram, and sometimes simply clicking a new track causes ssl to hang, i'd be worried about moving files while playing out live.

PIPEone - you should definitely be able to rearrange crates while you are playing. Please take a moment to update your profile (click on the 'profile' link in the top right of this page) with a description of your computer specs and we'll be able to help you.

ok i updated it.
yes, hangs as in loss of audio, but then the computer catches up to itself and resumes after about 1.5 seconds. also sometimes the display cant keep up w/ the software .. especially while selecting a track. the display will freeze, although the audio usually continues normally. keep in mind this is a 2.4 p4 with 512 ram running a clean xp system with no other app's open.. (build 1113)

also, in my room, with properly grounded, bRAND new turntables, when i click estimate in the setup, the threshold goes allll the way to the right... this shouldnt be the case in my quiet bedroom with a stable system and properly grounded , clean, new equipment.

Its sounds like you may have the turntable spinning when you hit the estimate button. Make sure the platter is stoped with the needle on the record when clicking the estimate button.

thanks shaun, you are correct.
as to the other issues/problems... what do you think sam?
or will the proper threshold solve my drops and screen issues?

It sounds like your CPU is being taxed and trying to keep up. A choppy display is the first sign that your audio may drop out. At what setting do you have your USB Audio Buffer set? Also, to save additional processing power turn off the "Auto Fill Overviews" feature within the setup screen. Please let me know if any of the above helps.

i set the buffer in the middle, but realistically, i should be able to have it at far left.

and honestly, with a 2.4 pentium 4 and 512 megs of ram, shouldnt i be able to run the auto fill overviews?
this is somewhat frustrating.

Just be sure you regularly check the setup screen scope to see if the circles show the needles needs to be cleaned.
