Hey crudyard_r@hotmail.com,

Does this happen with every file, or only some? What format are your files mostly?

Are you playing files from an external drive?

Is that you are able to add a Cue Point to a file, but when you re-open the software, the Cue Point is no longer on that file?
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 2:49 AM - 4 January, 2013
it would show up but wouldn't save.....i had to re- format my drive ...so it is saving now...nuff problem
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 2:53 AM - 4 January, 2013

Apologies, you happened to create your help request on the weekend followed shortly by some statutory holidays.

So the problem has resolved now? What format did you re-format your drive as?

It may be possible you had read-only capabilities with your drive.
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 11:00 AM - 8 January, 2013
how was that possible....because it was saving when i use my laptop ,but not on my desktop...but how can i use it with my laptop and desktop...
Serato, Support
Martin C 10:38 PM - 10 January, 2013
You haven't really answered several of my questions, so I am not really 100% on your situation, but if you reformatted your drive on the desktop and it now works, it sounds like it may have been read only.

This would mean that you could import the files, play them, add more files to your hard drive, but probably have trouble actually writing data to those files.

Sometimes permissions can apply to the files themselves, the folders they are in, or the whole drive itself.
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 10:45 AM - 11 January, 2013
thats what happen
i could save and add files to my drive..but could not write to any of the files..but in case it happen again...what do in do...

Reformat your drive and make sure all permissions are read & write. What tool did you use to do it last time?

Quote:
cuing up the next song and it is heard in the mix

How were you recording? Did you run a cable from output 2 of the Mixtrack Pro? Output 2 is the cue audio by design. Perhaps the reason why it doesn't happen in Virtual DJ is because there is an internal software recording function, which does not exist in Serato DJ Intro, however it does exist in Serato DJ.
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 10:54 PM - 12 January, 2013
i am using serato dj ..i payed for it because i like it...the re-format is done by windows
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 10:57 PM - 12 January, 2013

Sorry, could you explain what you mean exactly?
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 11:02 AM - 14 January, 2013
i found out that to stop the problem ,,,i have to turn the cue gain and the cue mixing knob or i start hearing the the next track in the mix..the mix track pro don't start to respond right away..but it work...sometimes it just freez

Ok, but this should only effect what you hear in the headphones, not in the recording. Is this not the case for you? If so, what do you set the Cue Mix knob to to have it record the cue?

Quote:

What is your USB buffer size set to in the SETUP > AUDIO of Serato DJ? Try moving this to right hand side then clicking "apply" to hopefully reduce freezing type issues.
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 9:59 AM - 15 January, 2013
i didn't set any of the knobs to record...this is what the problem is,,,,,if i dont turn the knobs before playing or start to record....then i get the problem.....with the freeze issue i will try it...
Serato, Support
Martin C 8:00 PM - 15 January, 2013
Ok, which knobs? Any of knobs or buttons?
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 8:45 PM - 15 January, 2013
THE knobs are cue mix ,cue gain and the crossfader...

I have tried to reproduce this problem but am unsuccessful.

Any chance you could make a small video of what you would normally do to have this problem happen, and also send me the recording file that you make so I could listen?

Would be greatly appreciated so I can understand your issue and perhaps it could be resolved :)
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 11:05 AM - 17 January, 2013
ok.....i will...sorry for the words in song...but the cue was in the file looping but i never bring it in...

Serato, Support
Martin C 7:13 AM - 18 January, 2013
Ok cheers, I can hear what you are talking about, but I still don't quite understand how its happening for you.

From what you have told me, it happens for you in this situation

1. Mixtack Pro is connected
2. Serato DJ is launched
3. Nothing is touched on the Mixtrack Pro, but I start a recording in Serato DJ by using the mouse.
4. I press play on both decks, but only one channel fader is up.

Is this how you hear the cue in the recording? IF you are able to make a small video with your phone or any camera you might have it would be super helpful.

Does this happen when you do the same procedure with another computer?
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 11:59 AM - 18 January, 2013
the thing is....i would be in the set up mode first working on my files that i want to play and record(i give u a big plus for the recording section very clean and nice..)..than i would plug in the mixtrack pro...wait a few mins for the screen to change ...now if i don't turn those knobs i tell u about ..i get what i send u.
Serato, Support
Martin C 9:52 PM - 20 January, 2013
Sorry, but I am still unsuccessful with getting this problem to happen. I need more specific instruction please :)

Once you plug in the Mixtrack Pro, do you click record in Serato DJ? Do you touch the platters? Do you touch anything else?

This is why a video would be really helpful. If I am unable to reproduce the problem, I am not really able to help much, or if it is a bug, I am not able to log it so it can be fixed.

sorry i didn't ans u right away...but let me explain
1.i plugin in my mix track pro ....i don't touch any keys...
2.turn on my serto dj software...now with out touching any key
3.i touch play on my mixdeck it will not play very loud until i touch the cue gain or cue mix
4..if i dont move the crossover keys and play the other deck i hear the other deck in my headphone and hear it out of my speaker....not until i move the crossover keys then it play as it should..

Hey crudyard_r@hotmail.com,

Apologies for the delayed response, I have been out of the office, but I appreciate the video you have made.

It does seem like a faulty controller to me, going from what you have shown me, but to narrow it down further, I recommend trying it on a different computer, just be sure, and see if it does the same thing.

Let me know what you find.

Thanks :)
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 11:08 AM - 28 January, 2013
i did and it is the samething..
Serato, Support
Martin C 4:30 AM - 31 January, 2013
Ok, cheers for confirming that, as I have finally been able to reproduce this.

I have spoken with our developers and found that this limitation of the Mixtracks firmware which does not allow it to initialize upon start up.

I would recommend always touching the faders/platters to "calibrate" the controller.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention however, as I think this is something that should be mentioned in our hardware quickstart guide for Serato DJ.

Thanks!
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 1:07 PM - 31 January, 2013
will this be fix in the new mix track pro 2...or this limitation will always happen

pl...tell me the best way to fix this problem
Serato, Support
Martin C 12:12 AM - 4 February, 2013
The Mixtrack Pro Mk II does not have this issue from what I can tell.

This will most likely not be addressed, however I don't think it is a big problem, you simply need to quickly move the crossfader when first launching the software to avoid it happening.
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 2:46 AM - 4 February, 2013
i see..but is it this mixtrack pro is not set up for this software
Serato, Support
Martin C 4:47 AM - 4 February, 2013
Its not quite like that. My understanding is that the Mixtrack Pro does not send any initialization messages to tell the computer/software where crossfader is situated on start up, therefore the software must assume a default position (probably the center) until it receives a message from the crossfader (your movement.)

The Mixtrack Pro was a controller released before Serato DJ was released, however we worked thoroughly on having the controller supported and the buttons mapped to the software. This is one small detail however that we can't get around with any changes we make in the software.

As I have said though, it is easily avoided, so I don't think it is worth necessarily getting the Mixtrack Pro MkII just for that reason, but its entirely up to you :)
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 3:43 PM - 4 February, 2013
i truly respect ur honesty ...and i was just going to get it for that reason...
Serato, Support
Martin C 9:32 PM - 6 February, 2013
No worries, if its something that bothers you, the Mixtrack Pro Mk II is a pretty sweet upgrade with the additional pads now, I have had a lot of fun playing with it myself.

Sorry we couldn't provide any resolution with your current issue though!

Hey crudyard_r@hotmail.com,

Are you now using Serato DJ? Did you only just start using Serato DJ, or were you able to use it without problem until now?

Did this ever happen to you with Serato DJ Intro? Do you use an external drive to store your music?

Are you able to open the software without it shutting down when the Mixtrack Pro is not connected? Did you end up getting a Mixtrack Pro II?
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 2:18 AM - 3 May, 2013
Hi..i am a full time user of serato dj ...i never had this problem with the serato dj that i was using....i upgrade to the new one and it start to shut down.....

yes i do use a external drive to store my music...even with the old serato dj i was using it..

i am able to open it ..but when i connect my mixtrack pro is when it start to shut down
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 2:19 AM - 3 May, 2013

So if you disconnect the external drive and then open the software with the Mixtrack Pro connected, does it work ok?

How much music do you have roughly on your external drive?

I understand, but we need to try these things to see if we can eliminate the variables and strip you setup down to a very basic one so its easier to troubleshoot.

So I am curious, if you have your external drive remaining disconnected, and connect the Mixtrack Pro and launch the software, does the same problem happen.

Have you made sure to analyze all your files in the software?

Quote:

I am a little unsure what you mean by this? You shouldn't to open the window to control the samples. But it depends how/what you want to control.
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 2:32 PM - 5 May, 2013
what i mean is the sample player in the software .....in the version 1.1111 we had to have that section open to control any sample.in the new version i can be in recording section an still control the sample player...

now with the present problem is it work fine in off line mode(THAT IS WHEN THE MIXTRACK 1 IS NOT CONNECTED)..but as soon as it is connected it shuts down... don't knw y...so i cannot use the the upgrade...which i want to use...with the old version if the external drive is connected it make no difference it run smooth..it just mean i will not get to my music..
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 2:34 PM - 5 May, 2013
also when the controller is connected and we load music in two deck only one shows up on deck....
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 2:52 PM - 5 May, 2013
this is funny i did as u ask..disconnecting my hard drive and put two mix in and it work very smooth...so its the hard drive..what am i to do..

Martin C 11:39 AM - 6 May, 2013
Ok, thanks for explaining, and thanks for following my instruction.

The next step is to rebuild your database on the external drive: serato.com

Follow the above instructions and leave the Mixtrack Pro disconnect when you do it. Please ensure to follow ALL instructions very carefully.

Let me know how you go :)
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 1:43 PM - 6 May, 2013
i did follow all instruction ..but same thing
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 10:16 AM - 7 May, 2013
i am at a lost ..i reformat my external drive and that don't work..the software works fine if i disconnect my external drive. when its connected it shuts down,,tell me i don't have enuff space to run ,,but that cant be .....on the external..is 594 g......and on the internal is 409g
Serato, Support
Martin C 9:01 AM - 8 May, 2013
Ok so what format did you reformat your drive to?

Please follow these instructions now if the database thing didn't work:

1. Close all programs
2. Connect your external drive and open it
3. Find the folder _Serato_ on the root of the drive and rename it to "_Serato_OLD"
4. Connect your Mixtrack Pro
5. Open Serato DJ.

Does the software still crash?

Please don't go any further than this, just let me know what happens.
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 10:06 AM - 8 May, 2013
i did what u ask...the software didn't crash...no create was loaded...
Serato, Support
Martin C 10:23 AM - 8 May, 2013
Cool, that is what I hoped for.

The next steps are as follows (keep your Mixtrack Pro disconnected):

1. Close all programs
2. Go into the "_Serato_OLD" folder
3. Select the "subcrates" folder, right click, then select "copy"
4. Go out of the "_Serato_OLD" and into the newly created "_Serato_" folder.
5. Right click, paste the "subcrates" folder
6. Open Serato DJ.

Does it crash? It make take some time to load all your files, so let it do this.

7. After all files are loaded, close Serato DJ.
8. Connect your Mixtrack Pro
9. Open Serato DJ.

Does it still crash?

Please let me know how you go.
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 10:47 AM - 8 May, 2013
there is a problem serato has not created a _serato_ folder..so there is no new folder
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 10:48 AM - 8 May, 2013
so whats the next move,,
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 11:00 AM - 8 May, 2013
there is no new folder
Serato, Support
Martin C 10:39 PM - 8 May, 2013
Ok, so we missed one thing sorry. In order to make Serato DJ create a new _Serato_ folder on the external drive, just import 1 file from your external drive into Serato DJ.

Then close Serato DJ, and the _Serato_ folder should appear.

Then continue with these steps:

Quote:

I understand that, but in order to move forward we need to pinpoint exactly what/where its happening.

So can you be more specific about which point it shut down? Did it crash after the first 6 steps? OR did it crash after Step 9?

Martin C 1:25 AM - 11 May, 2013
Cool, thanks for clarifying because it does help a lot.

So if you keep the Mixtrack Pro disconnected, then open Serato DJ, its ok right? Your library appears in the software ok in this situation?

When you are in this "offline" mode, have you analyzed all your files by clicking on the "analyze files" button. If you have not, please do so.

I then want you to ensure you have NO corrupt files existing in the library. If you aren't sure what they are, please go here: serato.com

You need to remove ALL corrupt files, as this might be what is causing the issue. When you have analyzed all your files, you can go to the ALL crate, then click on the top of the far left hand column in the library to arrange by "status".

This should group all the corrupt files together in one area so you can easily see all the files that have the corrupt file icon.

Let me know how you go.

Martin C 12:52 PM - 11 May, 2013
Do you mean trigger the samples using your keyboard? Use the keys: Z, X, C, V, B, N.

See a full list of Shortcuts here: serato.com

So did you analyze your files and remove corrupt ones as I instructed above?
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 1:07 PM - 11 May, 2013
i did analyze all my files and that did not help.....but since i remove the corrupt files it stay running longer but the thing is the cpu light when playing two song
Serato, Support
Martin C 12:36 AM - 12 May, 2013
Ok, so we are dealing with something different now. Do you experience the audio dropping out at all when the CPU light is showing up?

Before we move on to troubleshooting that, can you please one last time rebuild the database V2 file on your external drive: serato.com

Now that you have got rid of the corrupt files, its a good idea to get rebuild this incase those corrupt files had caused any complications to the database as well.

Also, please check your PM's :)
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 11:09 AM - 12 May, 2013

Can you explain a little bit more about what you mean by the above? The CPU meter comes on where you are playing the music in the red and the limiter light is engaging?

Can you please try turning off your Wifi and bluetooth? (as well as keeping the external drive disconnected) and see if there is any improvement?

I understand. So if you dont allow your music to hit the limiter by keeping the faders down, does the CPU light come on still?

Which version number were you previously using?

You might need to make some further optimizations to your computer, which can be a bit of work but is well worth it: serato.com

It makes it much harder for me help you if I ask about 3 things and you only respond to 1 of those things. Please answer my questions from above:

Did you follow all of the instructions or just some of them? Do you have any idea what made it worse?

Did you check your private messages as I mentioned above? I would like to help you by accessing your computer remotely. Do you know how to access your PMs on the forum? You should have received an email with a direct link to the one I sent you.
crudyard_r@hotmail.com 12:30 AM - 24 May, 2013
sorry..i didn't ans all the questions but i was trying to see what is going on
1. the software has a light on the left side that tell how much power is been use at any given time...now this light when i load up tracks go into red and stays there for awhile at that time the cpu light stays on for a long while...when this light drop then the cpu light goes on...now the funny thing is the light comes back on when i use a sample and when i try to transtion for over 8 bars....

the version before is 1.1.1..before this present version

i was trying to shut down background thing and start up thing ....

i never had on any blue tooth or wifi...so that wouldn't cause any problem

But it might be, we just need to try these things in order to troubleshoot issue otherwise we will never be sure whether those things are factors into the situation or not.

So have you analyzed all your files?

Were you able to follow all the steps in the optimization guide I gave you? Or are you only half way through?

I am doubtful that is your issue, although I wouldn't rule it out.

Serato DJ is a 32 bit application and therefore even when running on a 64 bit, it doesn't use of all the memory available. You aren't receiving any out of memory errors/crashes either, which are usually more the symptoms of that type of problem.

Its possible Windows 64 bit may run OTHER applications and background processes more smoothly and as a result, Serato DJ may have more room to breath and perform well, but there I would really like to explore other things with you before thinking about moving over to 64 bit.

Above all that however, its my bad we have come this far without getting some more info about your specs, so perhaps I should ask you that: serato.com

As you filled in the initial help request with "Windows 64 bit" as your Operating System, I did not consider that you would be on 32 bit.

Please provide me with your specs and please get back to me with a suitable time we can speak.

Thanks.

From what I can see, your processor is well below the minimum required spec:

Quote:
processor: intel (R) pentium (R) 4 cpu 2.80GHZ / 2.79GHZ

Which has an average CPU benchmark of 336 www.cpubenchmark.net

Our minimum spec is:

Quote:
2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
as listed here: serato.com

Which has an average CPU benchmark of 1126: www.cpubenchmark.net

Im sorry I didnt ask all this earlier, but its really starting to appear that your computer is nto capable of running the software correctly.
