Behringer DDM4000 MIDI & Serato

deepdjdanny 4:22 AM - 8 June, 2008
Anyone get the mixer's channel one's strip knobs & faders to consistantly MIDI control change SSL internal modes' on-screen pitch, pitch fine, deck gain, or library scroll? Doesn't appear to be a problem on the Serato side of things as another cheap DJ MIDI Controller: the AUS $300; DJ-Tech brand, works fine with SSL.
What I'm basicly saying is that there is a problem with either
1). the DDM4000 channel one strip knobs/faders/dials/(rotary encoders... N/A)
and/or...
2). the generic USB-MIDI cable that I use.
These are the symptons & conditions.
Perhaps... a start would be to buy another USB-MIDI cable (converter/interface) & try that...
if that fails... then it's definitely the Behringer.

Heads Up!
Behringer DDM4000: plenty of onboard mixer confined user generated MIDI control :)
Hint, all cue points mapped.

& in my case, an additional 4 auto loops are mapped as well.

I just bought the DDM4000 2 hours ago, and I am here at work (LAN Engineer) dying to get home an in my garage. I not sure I completely understand you, but you have been able to program your mixer to interface with SSL? I know SSL has the midi feature now in 1.8 but I hadn't paid any attention to it. I have yet to read the manual on the mixer yet either. I suppose by the time you read this, I will be home and knee deep in all this. Let me know how things worked for you.

Peace

I'm thinking that this isn't a problem with SSL's MIDI assignments as they still show as being maintained.
Hovering mouse over a control/button shows the 'Pale Green, note/control change Tool Tip assignment box'.
So I'm thinking it's not a problem on the SSL side of things.

But...
when making any additional SSL MIDI assignments & saving to currently loaded SSL MIDI preset they seem to cause SSL to not stay Physically locked to the particular assignments... contrary to what the Pale Green box states.
The DDM4000 controls end up controlling nothing in SSL.

Basically: it's a matter of 'SSL not appearing' to remain locked on to a MIDI control.
Behringer is transmitting MIDI data as the Generic MIDI over USB adapter thingy flashes indicating such.
DDM4000's Channel 1 volume fader doesn't stay locked onto Virtual Deck A's coarse pitch slider.
DDM4000's Channel 1 Treble Knob doesn't stay locked onto Virtual Deck A's gain dial.

So it could 1 of 4 things or some kind of combination of them...
1. Behringer DDM4000: transmitting false data. (well it is a $600 Behringer mixer after all...)
2. Generic MIDI over USB adapter thingy corrupting MIDI data to OSX MIDI area. ( g e n e r i c )
3. OSX MIDI is rooted. (Damn)
4. SSL MIDI (hopefully: unlikely).

This has occurred ever since the inception of SSL's MIDI implementation (duh!) & in both Tiger & Leopard.
S'ppose I need to reinstall MIDI Monitor & check this shit out. Hopefully the 61 note Yamaha DJX keyboard maps fine.
Any advice?...

the DJ-Tech Professional iMix DJ MIDI Controller has ceased to be recognised by OSX both Tiger & Leopard.

Okay now. Did a Leopard update & DjTech iMix is working again.

you need the behringer uno midi cable, this mixer won't work properly without that specific cable, I know I tried a few differnet ones

selectah grimes - "you need the behringer uno midi cable, this mixer won't work properly without that specific cable, I know I tried a few differnet ones"

are you sure this is true, and if so why? I just got a ESI Rami MIDI cable and I'm having exactly the same issues as deepdjdanny - it says they're mapped but there's no response. It did work at one point though, and just got worse until it didn't control anything. Now I can't even click on the buttons to unassign them, they just stay green.

So basically, are u sure that behringer cable works because I don't want to have to swap it unless I know it'll work. Also, if this is true, then this mixer is shit, and I wouldn't want to give behringer ny more money for a cable that won't work because its made by behringer.

Yep, I can tell I'm getting pised off as i write this so I'll leave it at that, but it'd be good to know how u know this.

cheers

ye I've seen that already. I even spoke to him on this the other day when I was having trouble sorting it out but he didn't seem to think the cable I was using was wrong in any way.

cheers tho
