might not be on the right page but.. Does anyone know if you can put SSL on a Chromebook ? Running a external Hard Drive?
Thanks,
pdidy 1:49 AM - 4 December, 2012
No because Chromebooks run on Chrome OS. Serato runs on windows or mac os.
phatbob 1:49 AM - 4 December, 2012
No. Windows or Mac OSX only.
pdidy 1:50 AM - 4 December, 2012

it would be good for rane to get SSL to work on the chrome OS. (how could it be any worse than windows?!)

just saw this nice cheap laptop today and was thinking about it:

this would not be a good idea, theres already to many people complaining about serato dj no working properly on windows, we don't need more complaints about serato dj not working with chrome

I challenge you to actually research and educate yourself on what a chrome book is and it's designed uses. Then come back and tell us if you still think Ssl should work with it.

Chrome is an O/S similar to what Betamax was to video recorders
XRM5 12:58 AM - 28 November, 2013
Betamax actually looked OK.

More like the Fisher Price pixel vision that recorded on cassettes.
Culprit 8:34 PM - 28 November, 2013
I would never consider a chromebook at this stage for djing live.. they don't have ssl sdj for linux so don't even bother with that

i have been using serato on windows since late 2007 and i have never had a problem with it.

once windows itself blue screened, but that was windows fault, not seratos.

..and anyway, if that were the case, wouldn't that provide the case for alternatives?!

with respect, a video format and a computers operating system are two very different things!

if rane released it, i'd consider using it.

the only reason i use windows on my desktop is for gaming.

i'm not after buying something that will impress anyone, just run serato, that's priority number 1 for me.

again, this is not a pc hardware p1ssing contest, i could care less if my 'serato box' doesn't look good compared to other systems, as long as it runs serato without any problems.

it's a browser-based computing platform, i know.

there is a chrome OS on the way and it would be mad for google not to try and invade this space, it's invaded everything else? if google came up with a chrome os that run everything windows did, they could kill windows. how can anyone make an OS worse than M$?!

it's just that i'm open to new ideas, i like looking at alternatives.

Great. But its specs are still crap for running Serato. Believe it or not, specs in relation to Serato tend to be the focus on comments
clearblu 7:04 PM - 5 December, 2013
The general consensus on minimum professional use is a 2.4 dual core and 4gig ram. You would be surprised at how much processing power Serato needs albeit for short periods of time (loading crates or more importantly analyzing tracks) That's not going to change

Which is honorable but If one is looking for a cow, would you suggest we start by looking under the bed ?

The chromebook's are awesome, just not meant for djing. Really good for kids.

Truer words have not been spoken. In fact, Betamax was was a superior analog videotape recording format. Look it up. The only reason VHS won the video wars is because the porn industry chose VCR because it was cheaper to mass produce VHS tapes. So yeah, your analogy is literally🍏s & 🍊s... a fruit salad. 😉
HighTopFade 5:51 PM - 11 October, 2018
Betamax was awesome. Smaller tapes too.
CzarX19 7:54 PM - 24 October, 2019
Let me tell you what i did.
I am a bedroom DJ (just for Kicks)

1. I am running serato on my desktop it sits about 4 ft from my dj set up.
2. I use my chrome book to mirror my desktop and have it sitting above my mixer.

Otherwise this is the only way i can see you using a chrome book with serato
NoCo 3:33 PM - 13 July, 2022
Since the M1 chip means than Serato DJ will be able to run on an iPad in the not-too-distant future, it's time to revive this suggestion.

Serato DJ on a Chromebook that uses an Intel i3, i5, or very recent ARM processor is something that's probably overdue -- as well as a decent first step towards bringing Serato to Android. Alternatively, instead of an official Chromebook version, the same result may be achievable by making Serato more WINE friendly.

Chromebooks are literally lighter and more portable than most other machines on the market, and would be better suited for mobile DJs.
popnwave 5:50 PM - 13 July, 2022
I'm gonna gatekeep here - but keep janky ass Chromebooks in the classroom and out of the DJ booth.
