heres the situation i have a 57sl, two techs, and i want to add a sampler to it. Im looking at the sp404 the sp555 and maybe an MPC 500 or 1000. i want to use a sampler instead of where i normally put my efx 500 or my trigger finger. I have read all the reviews and comparisons and basically for my needs of just having fun with beats, playing samples live while djing, or using as a drum pad randomly when i get bored. They all do the trick, price wise i found a sp555 for 440 with extra mem cards etc.
My big question is to any one who uses a sampler live while they dj, which do you like the best?? I have read the sp 404 and sp555 are easier to operate live then the MPC's, and the sp's have effects that could take the place of my efx 500 easily. Im torn people and the only ones who can help me are you serato 57 guys who would be using it the same way i would :)

if i was u i would keep that efx 500.i was using an still am a little using the sp404.its cool, but limited. mpc is cool but since u got a t.f. leave the mpc at the crib. cause how i run my samples now is with ableton live. an u can run them both on 1 laptop depending on ur p.c. u using.

MPC won't work live as well as the SP if you want to add effects on the fly. I use a sp-202 because I only use it for drops. It has a Time Stretch function that I can use on the fly to adjust the drop to the tempo I am at by simply turning a knob.
If you want to mess with some basic beat making too get the sp 404. I was going to get an MPC 500 to replace the sp-202 because I use a bigger MPC already.... but it just couldn't control my drops on the fly like the SP 202,303, or 404 can. Check Craig's list - you wouldn't believe how many people buy these and then resell them almost new because they can't figure them out.

SP 404. REALLY easy to use. It's so easy, I didn't even know about the Time Stretch function, until MrGoodie2shoes just posted it! lolol! It's worked fine for me though.

Thanks all i didnt get a response back fast enough and ended up getting an sp555. And yea the guy waqs selling it on craigslist because he couldnt figure out how to get it to work right lol. I spent an hour reading the manual and messing with it and its super simple to use. My only complaints is that i have to go buy a card reader to put samples on it (i thought i could just plug the usb in and drag and drop), and the fact that i cant hear what sample it is pre fader at least i cant figure out how to yet so im sure i will be pressing the wrong keys many a time. The over dub function is sweet i have been jamming out all kind of beats with the factory samples and its tons of fun.
The reason im not using the trigger finger and ableton is because i use the trigger finger for serato and also when i would drag and drop samples into ableton it would crash my other programs. My laptop isnt beefy enough i guess. Anyways if you guys like the other sp fam the 555 is really sweet, probably shouldnt have gotten it because now i spend lots of time looking for samples instead of practicing djing.....

no you cant control serato with the sampler, but you can with the trigger finger. I used it live tonight to just drop random quotes from funny movies nothing special. Thats probably what im going to end up using it for is my drops randomly through out the night.
Its kind of a pain that it doesnt accept anything but wave samples though, have to convert them first before loading them onto the card.
Who knows if i will keep it long, i really dont need it, it just fun to mess around making beats :)
