Thank you, that basically sums it up for me.
I am assuming that Mac is the most popular for DJs to use.

think the basic rule is use what platform you are the most comfortable on.
If I was to use a mac I'd have no idea where to start debuging if there was a problem.
which is why i stuck to XP.

I have always used windows so i am very familiar with it but i can not eliminate the option of purchasing a mac just because i don't know it. i would just have to learn it and i am sure that it is simple to pick up. i have heard that linux/ubuntu is the most reliable OS on the market today so that is why i asked my question in the first place. djing is new to me and if i start building up my crates i would hate to ever lose them even though i would always back my crates up. i would also hate to have the computer crash on me at any point in time especially during a set. Thanks for the info.

I found this on the web... have a read through.
What is the best operating system?
It depends on what is the purpose of the operating system. There is no operating system till today which can be called "The Best" overall. Few OS and their best usage are described below. Behavior of a OS for industry and for personal use may not be similar.
Microsoft Windows: The most common OS.
Pros
The largest library of programs and applications.
Most commercial games only work with Windows.
Largest variety of compatible hardware and peripherals (flash drives, music players, etc) to chose from.
Cons
Prone to viruses, spyware, and adware if proper steps not taken (anti-virus).
Prone to crashes if proper steps not taken.
Apple Macintosh:
Pros
Relatively simple interface
Low number of viruses and spyware (though, unlike what Apple claims, it is not immune)
Many high-quality Mac-only programs exist (iLife)
Cons
Relatively small amount of third-party commercial programs
Small game selection
Limited to Apple-manufactured hardware.
Some websites only support Internet Explorer. This browser isn't made for the mac anymore.
Linux/Unix/FreeBSD
Pros
Low number of virsues and spyware
Free
Has a free equivalent to nearly every Windows/Mac program
Customizable
Can run certain Windows programs with the use of a compatibility layer such as Wine. (Programs such as Cedega can be used to run many Windows games)
Cons
Many features require more experience/knowledge of operating system than most people have for some distributions
Many commercial programs do not support Linux
Small commercial game library
