so...
Are you able to tag mp4 video files like an mp3?
If so... on the pc side.. what program is best for it? Besides iTunes... if any..
On the tags can you put fields like remix, bpm, comments, etc?

You can tag mp4 files but iTunes might be you best bet for the time being.

iTunes doesn't make it easy to batch tag info like what I use for mp3's.
So does Serato Video support all the tag info... ie. bpm's, comments, etc...

I personally used iTunes for all my tagging. You can batch tag for things such as genre, comments, and artists if need be. The only issue I have found is that even after running overviews in Video-SL I can't get the BPM to show in iTunes. Good part, I now have all my 'gig ready' music and music videos on my laptops HD. I upgraded my Macbook Pro to a 320 gb HD and love that I don't have to lug that F'in HD around anymore. I have all my originals and all my converted mpeg 4 ,h.264 files on the external incase I need to pull any files and add to my 'gig ready' machine.

Charlie, I don't think iTunes will show a BPM for a file that is not a music file. Am I wrong here? I've never tried to make it work, but then again I've never seen any BPMs in iTunes for video files either.

The iTunes BPM tag is a standard AAC tag but is limited to integer values. This doesn't have enough precision to store SSL's BPM tag so we have our own...
With SSL 1.8.1 we will start reading in the AAC tag as a starting point but will continue to store our own for more accuracy.

Yeah I get the same problem I build overviews and the bpm shows in ssl, but when I go back to itunes and get info or play track the bpm won't show up in itunes.
Not a big deal, but was wondering if it is supposed to act that way.

Good find. I'm glad I wasn't the only one. I was about to ask. :)
Well, as long as it's in SSL, who cares really. It's not like I need it in iTunes for the time being.
Keep the updates coming please. Thanks.

a better question is why are producers making songs that are not even bpm. i've always wondered why they would make a song at 101.5 BPM and just not 101 or 102. why the .5? what am i missing here.

I always find 101 bpm a little too pedestrian and 102 just a tad too fast...

So when modifying tags in programs like iTunes or Tag&Rename it would show up those changes in Serato then? So fields like the comment, album, genre, etc. are supported then? If soo... that is huge for keeping an organized library. Too bad about the bpm's
What if you are at home going through your tracks and getting bpm's in order then take your library via mobile drive or copied library over to another drive ... would it keep the bpm's in tack if you it isn't written to the mp4 tag? What file or database is associated with the library in order for the overviews, etc are instant when loading?
-- lots of questions before I commit to buying this... btw..

Yes. I have all my converted files on a master HD. All are tagged and the overviews have been built in SSL (with BPM's). If I need to pull from the master HD and add files to my gig laptop than I can. My videos are very very organized. Much more organized than when I was using the vob's.
Feel free to contact me via PM if you need any extra info that you can't get here on the forums. I remember you graciously helping me getting the Nou 4 going like a year ago.

I mean making music is emotionally driven gotta with your gut.
