WAV or AIFF, Rebuilding External Hard Drive

OG Supernatural 5:42 PM - 1 November, 2005
I've seen this discussion in several threads. However, I just want to make sure I understand correctly. WAV and AIFF are the same quality. I have heard mixed things about one or the other having better tagging ability. I would like to list the BPM's preferably with a program and not have to tap everything.

I am rebuilding an external hard drive and need some advise. Does WAV or AIFF work better with SSL? Which one do you prefer?

WAV is probably better supported than AIF on Windows; Mac it really doesn't matter as much (Apple invented the AIF format). They're both equally fine containers for containing the same audio. As far as tagging, neither have the "ability" so external applications (such as SSL) store this metadata in a seperate database. I'd imagine SSL's tagging implementation of both wav and aif is the same. If somehow your library gets damaged, this might become an issue.

I use high quality mp3 or ogg files myself--uncompressed wav/aif is just too big a space hog for the quality.

Thanks SpinThis!, I am using Windows and I accidentally erased all the artist info by doing a multiple/all edit in iTunes. Without all the artist info, I am limping along until I can build a second external hard drive. I currently have everything in WAV and just purchased another 320 gig hard drive so I'm good with the space issue. However, I believe there is NO BPM program out there that will assist with BPM's when using WAV, ISSH!!

I guess I will stick with WAV. Thanks again for the info!
