A question for the Turntablists here...

i'm new at using ssl with my 1200's. regarding beat juggling (doubles), how are you guys doing this? are you guys watching the laptop monitor and using the red cue points as your start point of the beat, or are you guys marking your vinyl with a piece of tape, like the old school way?? i'm used to looking at the piece of tape on my vinyl to juggle my beats, but i'm being told, alot of beat jugglers using ssl are actually watching the computer monitor to cue their records, rather than watching the markers on their actual vinyl. just wanted to see how you guys are doing it. i'm not sure if there's a "drift" issue, if i continue to rely on the tape on my vinyl. what do you guys think?

I'm doing it the old school way. With them old school plastic markers. I personally feel that it's simply easier doing it that way. Gives me tighter control. Also, you shouldn't be looking at your laptop all the time anyway (you look like a total geek) ;)

This occures only if you're using relative mode. I prefer to use absolute mode.

cool. yeah, the markers on my vinyl hasn't seem to drift so far. it's pretty cool using the cue points on the computer monitor, but yeah, just doesn't look bad-ass if you're staring at your monitor while busting out your doubles =)

for 'long' windbacks I sometimes look at the screen if I forget how many turns I need to pull back....

but for quick windbacks I go by the stickers.

I use the sticker on my vinyl as my cue point. Nothing has changed for me either. I tried and can do it both ways now (looking at the screen).

i'm trying to get used to looking at the monitor for cuing my doubles.....getting a little used to it. i was just curious how most of you are doing it.

mmm i suggest you to avoid depending on the screen, that could spoil your beat juggling skills...

as boabmatic said, i use the screen when i forget how many turns left.

very good point. didn't look at it that way. have any of you guys had "drift" issues regarding labeling a marker on your vinyl?

when using absolute mode, no, never.

When this happens, you have skipped the needle to a differant groove, because you are jugling heavy handed, and in relative mode I assume? That is why people in absolute mode don't have this problem, because if it skips, the audio does to. In relative mode, the audio stays the same, but the marker posistion changes due to the fact that you are actually in a differant part of the record now.

I cant seem to look away from the monitor when its right in front of me, so lately ive been putting my laptop to the side of me so im not looking at it constantly, its harder to juggle while looking at the screen (for me) im too used to looking at the actual record with stickers and seeing what im doing.
